While there may be some truth to what you are saying, what are your alternatives? There are only so many "proven winners" available...and lets face it, most of them aren't dying to come to Buffalo right now. Hiring Whisenhunt, IMO, isn't as puzzling or controversial as hiring Chan Gailey was. I am not saying I am all in for Whisenhunt, but I don't think he is the worst candidate name being mentioned right now. A lot will come down to what sort of staff he can put together...not everything will be exactly the same for him in Buffalo, as it was in Arizona (assuming he is hired)...it is a game of variables...he wasn't a complete disaster in Arizona, and is credited by many there with "changing the losing culture" in Arizona... sure a great amount of that success came with Kurt Warner, but you have to start somewhere...hopefully he learns from mistakes. He has never had the running back tandem that the Bills would have, at his disposal, and Larry Fitzgerald might not look too bad, winding down his career in the red, white, and blue!

Funny...but a few weeks before the season ended, I had a subconscious feeling that Ken Whisenthunt would end up being the Bills head coach.... Forgive me if this was posted elsewhere in this monster thread..but here are some opinions from Cardinal fans...while I don't think many are sad to see him go, there seems to be some respect for him: http://www.revengeofthebirds.com/2013/1/2/3827220/bills-fan-looking-for-info-on-whisenhunt#comments While I am not super familiar with the day to days of Whisenhunts' tenure in Arizona, one of the biggest critiques amongst Card fans seems to be that he got "too involved" in personnel decisions...he was very much behind the move to trade for Kolb.

Josh McDaniels - Head Coach - get it done
Buftex replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Over the years, I developed a respect for the Broncos, and normally find myself rooting for them once the Bills are (sadly) irrelevant for the season...when Josh McDaniels was in Denver I hated them...please no Josh McDaniel...there are fewer big douches to walk a sideline... -
Well...I am not saying I agree with the "moneyball" principle for football, but Russ Brandon worked for the Florida Marlins, prior to the Bills...the franchise won a World Series using "moneyball"...and another one later... I am skeptical...

Won't pretend to know who the best two choices are, but I would prefer a younger guy, with some experience...honestly, would like Lovie or Whisenhunt. Charlie Casserly, on NFLN, just said that he thought Lovie would be a great fit for the Bills, especially if he brought along Rod Marinelli with him...

Rumor only!! Involves John Gruden

I find it hard to believe that John Gruden would be spending Christmas in Buffalo...but you never know! Either way, anything that would get him off MNF is cool with me! -
[closed]So glad these jerks traded Lynch for a 4th round pick
Buftex replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bottom line is, most of the "jerks" here, on TBD, were all happy once Lynch was traded...time changes perceptions it seems. He was an off-field distraction, and was, seemingly always one false step from being suspended. There is no evidence (and I have my serious doubts) that Lynch would have been near as productive had he stayed in Buffalo, as he has been in Seattle. And yeah, I bet he would have had more off the field issues in Buffalo than he has in Seattle. Honestly, I always liked Lynch, and I was plenty content with Willis McGahee before him...but stop this BS that everyone knew how good Lynch would be in Seattle. Gailey would have not been able to handle him, and we would have a stadium 2/3 full of people who can't stand him...it is sort of the reverse CJ Spiller phenomenon we have seen with "Bills Nation"...as fickle as any fan base there is. -
Mitt didn't want to be President....

Funny, I remember somebody (one of the talking heads) saying the same thing, during the campaign, on FOX, and Sean Hannity went ballistic on him. Ann Romney, oddly, on more than one occasion, (normally in non-traditional campaign appearances, such as Leno) would say things that would make you wonder what his motivation for running really was.... she sounded as if he felt like it was his duty, or calling to run... it never sounded like he wanted to run... only time I got the sense that he "wanted it" was during the debates. -

What you can't stand (I am guessing) is country pop...believe me, I love country music (or what I consider country music), and I hate that stuff too....it really has as much to do with country music as Madonna does with Rock-n'Roll. Which all goes back to the notion that categories don't work effectively, in music...unless you want to miss out on a lot of really great stuff. I love the kind of country that the Dead seemed to appreciate ("Mama Tried" Merle Haggard, "She Thinks I Still Care" George Jones, etc etc...they have covered a lot of vintage honky-tonk stuff)...but you won't find me downloading the new one from Rascal Flats or Taylor Swift... -

On of my best friend's is a Bears fan...to hear him talk, the Bears are the most snake bitten team when it comes to injuries, in the history of the NFL. One thing I will say, because the Bills have not been competitive in so long, I have noticed (especially since Gailey has taken over) that we seem to send more guys to the IR than we used to. It seems the minute a guy strains a muscle the Bills send him to IR. In regards to McKelvin...me too, I hope he stays...but I think some other team is going to sign him to a bloated contract that the Bills won't match. I really like the kid...we all know he has had his rough moments, but the kid seems to have more natural talent at that position than any DB they have drafted in the last decade...I think with better coaching he might have developed and refined his game faster...I am just hoping Gilmore (and we) doesn't suffer the same fate in Buffalo. I went to see the Bills play the Giants last year, in Jersey. We sat behind the Bills bench. Morrison was actually dressed for the game...I don't think he moved on the sideline the whole first half...and I am pretty sure he didn't see the field for even one snap during the game... In regards to Kirk Morrison: why? A guy who has been part of the organization for almost three full seasons who can't crack the lineup, even during times when the LB was struggling horrilby...their vetran depth guy was standing on the sidelines in street close...I like the guy (he is good on the radio) but I just don't understand keeping a guy who you would never, ever, ever (it seems) want to dress for game...is there no young, free agent linebacker with a little upside out there? Crap, I honeslty would rather have them re-sign Aaron Maybin than waste more time on Morrison. I just don't get it...all I can figure is that he must be a hell of a locker room leader....

Yup..without country music you don't have rock-n'roll...the Dead, as much as any "rock" band were influenced, and incorporated elements of country music into their sound...I am not a huge Dead fan (though I don't hate them at all), but the stuff of theirs I like the most is that country induced stuff. Even colored pioneers of "rock n'roll" (Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Louis Jordan, etc) incorporated white country music into their sound... country + blues= Rock N' Roll. -
If the show had eneded with Nancy Botwin gettting arrested at the airport, that would have been a great finale for the show...I actually liked the whol Meixco excursion....less Kevin Nealon, and Elizabeth Perkins would have been nice too...nothing against the actors, they just had nothing to do with the show...

The last two seasons of "Weeds" were painfully bad....the last two minutes of the final episode were the only redeeming moments of the last season....oh yeah, and Mary Louise Parker skinny-dipping...the ony two redeeming moments of the final season...do yourself a favor, don't bother trying to catch up on it. I noticed that too, and I think (maybe I'm wrong) they were trying to show how awkward Deb (kind of a tom-boy) was being dressed up like a "girly-girl"...it was kind of true to character I thought.

Obama takes no action on gun control;
Buftex replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And you were so focused on the first sentence, you didn't read the rest...I don't think anyone is suggesting that tighter gun laws is going to eliminate ulawful acts...so we shouldn't do anything to make them less likely? And, yeah, you are right, it is hard to get away from the NRA boogeyman, because they are front in center lobbying to prevent restrictions....so if you want some action, what do you suggest? You seem sure about what won't help...what would help? -

Not necessailly (though it sounds like there might be something there in this case), but that is how the NRA is going to try to shape this phase of the argument...its' not a "gun issue" its' a "mental health issue".... And your response (not picking a fight, just that it illustrates my point) is that many will always deny that there is a mental health issue, that the perp is just a bad person. I can go along with that... but if we can't recognize mental health issues (and who would have faith that diagnosis/treatment will be correct), we can't treat mental health issues, and we can't change any laws as they pertain to gun accesss..then we are just stuck in the same place..and everyone will be sad when it happens again...but it will just keep happening, unless there is some modification made. I won't pretend to believe that stricter gun laws will solve every problem, but it is a start... the whole silly argument always made that "cars kill thousands of people every year, so should we take everyones' cars away?" is just juvenile. And I suspect, people on the pro-gun side of the issue (for lack of better term) are hyper sensitive if anyone "politicizes" events like this, because they know, most every argument they make is going to sound silly. And Obama won't try to take Biden's berretta... the jump from tighter laws on gun access, and "taking my guns away" is pretty big. -

Yes, there will be an attempt to shift the focus to "mental health" by the NRA and other pro-gun entities...and there is certainly some validity to that...but, we already live in a country where conservatives tend to think any sort of mental health diagnosis are just excuses for bad behavior, or bad parenting...we don't seem to have the desire to equip our education system to deal with kids who have mental health issues...so what do you do with them? I am certainly not advocating taking everyones' guns away, but I think many, even those who have always had a very pro-gun stance issue are rightfully wondering if we haven't reached the point where a little more control is warrented. But any time it is mentioned, the extreme people on that side of the issue, frankly, flip out. They need and want their guns... I doubt I could ever convince you of anything! -

I was at the CNE show too...I think me and my buddy went to just about every big show in WNY/Toronto area from about 1980-1986...I've seen the Who 8 times (I think) over the years...first time was the show at the Aud in 1979, the day after the Cincinnati incident...I had second row seats, as a high school friends' parents wouldn't allow him to go after what happened in Ohio. I was blown away...it was the first time I had ever sat that close for a big show (as opposed to those Melody Fair shows that granny used to take me to as a kid...Tony Orlando & Dawn, Bobby Vinton...all the greats! )...it was my first real taste of the power of rock n' roll. At the end of tha 1982 tour, the Who played two nights at Maple Leaf Gardens, the second night was a pay-per view simulcast...we went to the first show, and got the pay per-view the next night. IIRC, it was a Thursday and Friday night thing... I love Petes' solo stuff for the most part. For some reason though, while I had it all on vinyl at one time, I only have "Who Came First", "Rough Mix", "Empty Glass" and "All the Best Cowboys..." on CD now....they are tough to find. I work in a large CD/Record store, we carry pretty much everything (not necessarily all at once!), and they rarely come through used..and are out of print as new cd's both domestic and foreign. I would love to get a copy of "White City" and the live one he did (can't remember the name)...maybe the 80's production wouldn't age well, but I always loved that song "Second Hand Love"....kind of menacing sounding, in the vein of "Emminence Front" sound wise. Also loved that song "Somebody Saved Me". Have you read Pete's book? I am anxious to read it...maybe when I am flying back to Texas from Buffalo for the holiday...I am about 99% certain my girlfriend purchased it for me as a gift, so I have been avoiding it...been killing me to wait... I hear it is quite good... Just like the grub the wriggles to the top of mass...Stardom in action Acton, that's all they got! As for "Slit Skirts" I was about 17 when it came out, but it always spoke to me....I have always had an old soul! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XQ2KT8oZhw
