  1. This article appeared in the Austin American Statesmen....on Thursday...poor timing, if nothing else.... http://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/herman-perry-curious-about-why-were-not-no-1-in-co/nTWTh/
  2. I don't think Mario Williams signed with the Bills because he had a life long ambition to play in Buffalo...just sayin'
  3. And I am sure they would have been delighted to have him perform as well. Oh, I don't care for Kanye West (or Bieber)...but if you are having a benefit concert, where you want lots of people to donate money for a cause, it would only make sense that you would try to get acts that are very popular, and would attract more viewers, attract a wider range of viewers, and thus increasing your chances of getting more donations... does that make any sense? I haven't seen them live since their 3rd "farewell tour", but I remember when they performed at half time of the Super Bowl (granted, maybe 4 or 5 years ago now) Daltrey was really struggling to hit the highs. That has to be tough, cuz so much of the Who's stuff is anthem-like, and all about power...
  4. You didn't suggest that the media's attention to the shooters was feeding the craving these "losers" have for attention? If that wasn't what you were trying to say, what were you trying to say?
  5. I would rather listen to B-52's than Rush! That makes two!
  6. Cam has been blowing up (finally!)...even if RGIII is healthy, I would still start Newton.
  7. FWIW- a day late...gotta go with BGE, Manning and Miami D.
  8. From what I understand, she didn't have much of a relationship with him, if at all...
  9. JW- I generally agree with your musical taste (takes?)...but you are just a music snob!
  10. My friend Esmie was murdered on January 1st of this year...she was one of the brightest lights I have ever known. Great person. She was actively involved as a volunteer for the "Girls Rock" camps that take place all over the US during the summer. She was also a special ed teacher, and by all accounts, loved by her students...such a wastefull shame. This logo was created by some of the people from Girls Rock, to commemorate her spirit.
  11. I don't think Fitz is very good, but I still think he is better than Trent Edwards and JP Losman...I think the talent, overall, is better right now...we just need a head coach that can get the job done...Chan is not that.
  12. The woman who plays Maragaret (Kelly MacDonald) is Scottish, born and raised in Glasgow...are you saying her accent sounds fake?
  13. JW- respectfully...have you ever been to the Rock n'Roll HOF? I am assuming not...it is not perfect, but I don't think it hurts anyone/anything that it exists...sure, I could have lived without seeing the 900 different Stevie Nicks dresses they have on display....but for me, it was worth it just to see the awesome Clash exhibit they had, the recreation (using donated items) of backstage at a Stones show from 1976 (complete with Keith's guitar crate, bumper attached "work free drug place")...there is just way too much history, and too many amazing artists represented to scoff it off, IMO. What are you gonna do when the Mats make it in?
  14. It is great that Chan is keeping CJ fresh, so, when he becomes a free agent, another team will find his relative good heatlh, and little wear and tear on his body to their liking...
  15. Like him or not, Kanye West is one of the best selling artists of the last decade or so... I don't think he is paying anyone off. I completely forgot about this show tonight...
  16. Funny...I don't love Billy Joel (though "The Stranger" album was a staple for make-out music in Jr High...some fond memories!), but your repulsion to his music is similar to the way I feel about the Beach Boys...they irritate the crap out of me.
  17. Always loved the story about Ravi and his group opeining the legendary Concert for Bangla Desh...they played a piece that was bout 15-20 minutes, afterwards, the crowd at MSG went nuts with applause...Shankar says they were just tuning their instruments.
  18. I don't dig them, but there is a lot of stuff that is in the RnR HOF I don't dig... I am just going to throw this out there: When I lived in WNY, there were certain "classic rock" acts that were staples of my every day existence, like them or not... I would seriously doubt that I went more than a day or two without hearing the likes of Rush, Bob Seeger...when I moved south (Texas...south, southwest whatever you want to call it) some of these bands are still big (Rush for example), but aren't, at least as it seems to me, held in quite as high esteem as they are back home. Now, they can still sell out a basketball arena down here, but there isn't the universal reverence for them. It goes the other way too... a band like ZZ TOP is about as big as the Rolling Stones down here...and they were popular back home too...just not as much so. Part of their popularity is based on their remarkable staying power...and I don't mean this to sound disrespectful to Rush (god knows a lot of the stuff I love woudl make you guys cringe), but while they may be remarkable musicians, they aren't remarkably original, and they don't have songs that everybody would know. I realize, that is pretty flimsy criteria (and obviously, it shouldn't be the only criteria, lots of great bands aren't super popular mainstream, or very original...they are just good), but I think it plays into part of the reason why there seems to be some head-scratching omissions..."prog rock"/metal seem to be slighted. They will have their day. It is funny, a lot of nights I go to bed listening to the overnight guy on FOX Sports Radio (JT the Brick)...he will go on these rants every now and again about Rush not being in the HOF, but there is room for Abba? Blondie? It is pretty funny...
  19. I love Lou Reed, and am pretty indifferent to Metallica....but I hated this record...

  21. Music categories are pretty fuzzy...genre's are made up to fit needs...I get that people are upset that it took Rush so long to get in the HOF (personally, they bore the crap out of me), but some of the greates rock music of all time, was once categorized as "pop". A lot of it is just timing, and evolution. The lables and sub-genres really mean nothing. If you were to try to have strict definitions of what is what, it would be pretty tough. To me, the real "rock-n'roll" artists are people like Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, the Everly's, Louis Jordan, Elvis, etc etc... Sabbath, Rush, Madonna,Donna Summer, etc etc are far removed from that.... Gungy...just look at what you would cosider "Rock and Roll". That "etc" at the end could include a crud load of things... if you had to adhere to some strict defintion of what is rock n'roll, and what is not, the HOF would be pretty small. Not picking on you, just pointing out that "etc" leaves the door open for what you want to think of as rock-n'roll...and that is essentially the problem inherent with trying to categorize "art". The notion of a music HOF is pretty silly, when you really think about it...but I appreciate the concept that they are just trying to recognize innovators and shed light on some that don't always get any recognition for how much their work has contributed to the business of music.
  22. If Gailey comes back (which I am assuming he will) I honestly think it would make little sense to fire Wannestadt. The defense was ugly most of this season, but, with signs that they are starting to play a little better (though they stil have some major holes to fill on defense), it just doesn't make sense to tear that part of the team down, and start all over, again! I always said that I thought the defense would look better as the season went on...though I will confess, I never expected them do be quite as ineffective as they were to start the season. I say the defense is one of the few things that improved over the course of this miserable season (but they aren't there yet!), Wannestadt, by Bills standards, has earned another year. There should be a caveot though, if the team continues to head south, there is no way that I want to see Wannestadt as the Bills HC. I am still wondering if we have anything in Anderson (I don't think the Bills IR'd him)...would love to see him come back and play this year. Moore has been great (mostly), and Merriman has been adequate most of the time.
