Now Greg Williams is a cheater?
Billsguy replied to mountainwampus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree the Saints should pay big! Gregg Williams has shown himself to be a real scum bag. -
Check out this list of past Wonderlic scores. http://www.nflstatanalysis.net/2011/03/qb-wonderlic-scores.html There seems to be no correlation between Wonderlic scores and NFL success. For instance, Jim Kelly scored a 15 (never known to be intelligent, but in the HOF) yet others who scored very well are unknown. Jason Maas scored a 43. Jason Who? Therefore, I would conclude the Wonderlic is basically useless.
-
The point of the Wonderlic? The test is so easy it's ridiculous. 8th grade math given to college students? How does this relate to playing pro football at a high level? The math questions can be solved in under 5 seconds and the others not much longer. What a joke!

Great writer and sports observer. He was one of Buffalo's finest and will be missed.

Brady just slammed the Buffalo area
Billsguy replied to Yard Monkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously, downtown Buffalo in many ways is depressing to any objective observer. This isn't the same thing as saying there is nothing good in Buffalo or that the people are no good. Let's be honest and admit that there is a lot of room for improvement. Every little comment that gets people worked up about the qualities lacking in Buffalo should be taken as an incentive to improve the weak points. Too much energy is spent on outrage and hurt feelings that should be used to make the place better. Every resident of Buffalo should take pride in the city and do whatever they can to make it more attractive. Buffalo didn't get rundown from the visitors, it deteriorated from within and therefore it must be fixed from within. -
Does defense really win championships?
Billsguy replied to Billsguy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The conclusion based on the evidence: "Bottom line: Defense is no more important than offense." The problem with the Bills is that they are deficient on both sides of the ball. Hopefully, the endless arguing about what is more important will subside. The same pointless arguments can be made about running games, run defense, QB play, etc. These are pointless arguments because you need all the elements to be consistently good. The historical exceptions (i.e. team X won the Super Bowl with a lousy QB and a great defense) will always lead to faulty conclusions. -

“If you want to get the true measure of a football team go back and evaluate every first half of every game,” said head coach Chan Gailey. Some people might argue that Gailey has it exactly backwards. In the second half, and especially the 4th quarter, is when you get the true measure of a football team. The game is on the line and it's gut-check time. Gailey dismisses this idea and insists the first half is where you can determine a team's character. I think Gailey is wrong.

The Bills are a good football team
Billsguy replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Football is about entertainment value. If you believe you are being sufficiently entertained by the Buffalo Bills then nobody can deny you your opinion. Everybody has their own subjective point of view about the quality of the team. If you are content and happy with the Bills then God bless you and your opinion. However, if you are delving into the area of facts and objectivity then the question of whether or not the Bills are a good team is easier to evaluate. The Bills are NOT a good football team and they haven't been for a long time. The objective facts state that they are clearly NOT a good football team. Good football teams win more than they lose and good football teams make the playoffs. Bad football teams do the opposite. (i.e. the Bills) Ralph Wilson would be very pleased to read that so many of you are content with the current state of affairs. -
Let me get this straight: the Bills have serious needs? Surely, you jest:) The Bills have to build from the foundation first. The first level of the foundation is the owner. Nothing can be done about that right now. The second level is the management staff the owner hires. Nothing is being done about that right now either. The third level is the coaching staff. Based on the Bills performance over the last dozen years, it is safe to assume that there are cracks in the foundation. The next level is the players. The primary foundation from the playing level is the offensive line and the defensive line. If the lines are top notch the other pieces tend to fall in place. On offense the QB, RB's and WR's all seem to improve dramatically behind a quality OL. When the defensive line improves, the LB's and DB's get remarkably better. The NY Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, and San Fran 49er's all showed this year what a defense with a pass rush can accomplish. I would recommend building a defense that can pressure the passer. The Bills have not had a serious pass rushing DE in many years. Start there and then strengthen the OLB's. I would then strengthen the offensive line. I would definitely stop drafting RB's,WR's and safeties in the first two rounds until the lines are strengthened. This should have been done a long time ago. They did right by drafting Dareus last year. Now they need to do it again this year.

Is Bell a goner for sure, per Buddy 'priority to draft an LT"?
Billsguy replied to zazie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills had an All-Pro LT (Jason Peters) and they didn't want to pay him so they got rid of him. This is what happens to a team that has no idea what they are doing. Don't you think other players around the league see these things? Is it a mystery why top free agents are reluctant to sign with the Bills? -

Say what you want about Chan Gailey
Billsguy replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do you measure the job a coach has done? The NFL is a results oriented sport. Would you accept the Bills leading the league in offense and defense if they finished 6-10? Or would you prefer the Bills finishing last in offense and defense and have them finish 12-4? The bottom line is wins and losses. The measuring stick is wins and losses. How has Chan Gailey done as a Bills head coach? (10 wins 22 losses 31.25% W%) How many playoff games has Chan Gailey won in the NFL? Zero. Unfortunately, these are the facts. -
The Bills allowed a franchise worst 5,938 yards this season, and the 434 points they gave up was the second-worst in team history. Dave Wannstedt was assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach. He bears some of the responsibility for this train wreck and then he gets control of the defense? WTF! What the hell is wrong with you people who think this is a good hire? George Edwards was a complete failure so his departure is addition by subtraction, but Wannstedt is not much better. Why are people so happy to accept mediocrity? Look at Wannstedt and Gailey's records and it shouts MEDIOCRE!!! This insanity is caused by following consistent losers year after year. The ability to reason has atrophied to the point of non-existence.
-
I'm surprised Edwards got fired. After all he got a ringing endorsement from his prize pupil Chris Kelsay! Sarcasm off. With stars like Kelsay and McKelvin on D it's a wonder how he failed so miserably?

So, why no love for Fitz? How was 6-10 his fault?

Fitzpatrick' QB rating ranked 22nd out of 33 based on NFL stats. Those are average stats for a backup and well below average for a quality starter. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=0&season=2011&seasonType=REG&d-447263-n=1&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-p=1&statisticCategory=PASSING&conference=null&d-447263-s=PASSING_PASSER_RATING If a team has a mediocre QB,a mediocre head coach, and a below average coaching staff, you end up with about 6 wins if your lucky. If your defense is ranked 29th out of 32 in points allowed then getting 6 wins is quite an accomplishment. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&season=2011&seasonType=REG&role=OPP&d-447263-n=1&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-p=1&conference=ALL&defensiveStatisticCategory=GAME_STATS&d-447263-s=TOTAL_POINTS_SCORED If you're happy with these facts then there's nothing more to say. No team has been out of the playoffs longer than the Bills. The new Bills owner is the only one who can restore any dignity and pride to this franchise. The current owner is an abject failure. -
Bills slighted in article on Maher tweet

Hasn't this board seen enough of the "Bills get no respect.... Bills get snubbed.... Buffalo gets dissed, etc... threads? Enough already. Get over it. -

A Baltimore Perspective On Lee Evans !!
Billsguy replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always thought getting rid of Evans was a good move, but I thought they could have gotten more in return. -
It is almost always a mistake to reach any conclusions after any one particular game. If you take the season as a whole you can safely conclude that the Bills defense needs a lot of work.
-
If it was up to Chan Gailey he would still be on the bench. He would be cut next year and picked up by a contender who would utilize him properly and he would go on to a successful NFL career. Fortunately the fates intervened and forced Gailey to use him. Gailey is awful. This is another example of his shortcomings.

Dec 24th: Hawaii Bowl: Nevada-So.Miss
Billsguy replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Johnson would fit right in with the Bills. Nevada gave up 502 yards in total offense to Cal and the Cal RB Vereen picked up 198 yards on 19 carries for a 10.4 yd avg per carry. The Bills need to draft players who can stop the run and/or pressure the passer. James-Michael Johnson would not be on my draft board if I controlled the Bills draft. Nevada had a great offense and a bad defense. -
Since he should never have been hired, he should be fired. If George Edwards is fired the Bills are already better by subtraction of a negative.
