It's because George Edwards and Chan Gailey are "experts". It was one of a series of mistakes to switch to the 3-4 when the personnel was not available to succeed. Kelsay as a linebacker? Seriously? There is a direct link between bad coaching and bad results. The Bills have an extremely poor defensive coordinator and a very mediocre head coach who doesn't put his players in positions to succeed. They are total failures.
-
This statement is 100% correct on all three points. I've been saying it since they hired Gailey. He is a mediocre head coach with a sub .500 career record. Always was and always will be.
-
Kelsay must be in line for another huge extension to his contract. The worse he plays, the more money he gets. This is a perfect example, and there are many to choose from, why the Bills are perennial doormats. Bad decision making from top to bottom!

The coach that saved Aaron Mabin's NFL career -
Billsguy replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybin wasn't to blame for never getting a chance to play. The Bills coaching staff continues to prove that it doesn't know how to put certain players in positions to succeed. They are repeating the Maybin mistake with Spiller to a large degree. Mediocre to bad coaching can really ruin unrefined talent. -
THIS is proof that coaching matters in the NFL
Billsguy replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still don't know why DC Edwards has an NFL job. It defies logic and reason. This is the problem when you hire mediocre talent and expect exceptional results. Chan Gailey's record as head coach in the NFL is 27 wins and 34 losses. His coaching staff is even less qualified. Why is anyone surprised that a mediocre head coach with an inferior coaching staff is having trouble succeeding? The top performing teams often have the following characteristics: 1. top notch owner who wants to win above everything else 2. quality GM and organization 3. quality head coach and coaching staff 4. quality QB 5. quality defense How do the Bills measure up using these criteria? Fail on all counts to varying degrees. -
I'm so sick and tired of these ridiculous posts.

It's too bad you can't draft a new owner!

"Vegas has the Chargers beating the Bills by 7 points." WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! This is one of the most misunderstood numbers in sports. The betting line is not a measure of which team is better than another. This mistake is repeated ad nauseum by idiots on ESPN daily. The betting line is an attempt by the Vegas bookmakers to get equal betting action on both sides. The bookies would love to get 50% of the total money bet on each side. They adjust the betting line to induce more action on one side or the other. For example, if they get $50k bet on the Bills and 100K bet on the Chargers they might increase the point spread from +7 to +8 to get more people to bet on the Bills and even their books. If the bookies get even betting on both teams they take their 10% commission risk free regardless of who wins the game. If they get lopsided betting on one side they risk losing money if that side wins. Casinos and bookies don't like to lose money so they adjust the line to get balanced betting. If the point spread says Buffalo is getting 7 points against San Diego it has nothing to do with which team is better than the other!! They are NOT saying SD is 7 points better than Buffalo!!!

Agreed 100%. The bigger question is: "What is the point of the question anyway?" Here is my finger pointing priority: 1. Ralph Wilson 2. Ralph Wilson 3. Ralph Wilson 4. Bills management hired by Ralph Wilson including general manager 5. Bills head coach 6. Bills coaching staff 7. Bills scouting and player evaluation dept. 8. Bills players including Fitzpatrick Let's focus on the important issues first. Once the first seven priorities are addressed successfully, the 8th priority will be moot.

I agree. I've been suffering most of the last 51 years. I hope I live long enough to see the Bills succeed. The best moment was winning the AFL championship in 1964 and the worst moment was January 27, 1991 at Super Bowl XXV when the damn kicker couldn't make a field goal. After 51 years I can only remember about 6 or 7 good seasons. This is the pathetic legacy of Ralph Wilson as owner. Until the Bills have a new owner, I don't think they will ever taste ultimate victory.

Nix may be the biggest problem
Billsguy replied to IronyAbounds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you saying the Bills should have drafted a stud offensive lineman instead of CJ Spiller? How dare you spread this blasphemy! The Bills passed on Bryan Bulaga and Mike Iupati because they know better. Here's an interesting link. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2010/04/analyst-bills-rb-cj-spiller-going-to-be-one-of-the-impact-players-in-nfl-draft-class/1 In all fairness, Buddy Nix had company. In all fairness to Spiller, he has been mishandled and coached badly. He can hardly show his talent if he gets only one or two touches per game. If Spiller were getting 20 touches per game all season and failed to produce then you can call him a failure. I would hesitate to give up on him just yet. Maybe the next coach and next GM will use him wisely. -

Lather, rinse and repeat. Every three years the Bills management says the same thing. New coach, new GM - let's give them two or three drafts. Three years later.... Lather, rinse and repeat. -
Keeping blaming everyone else Bills fans
Billsguy replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the fans keep paying for crap (i.e. the last 11 years) then what incentive does the owner have to change? The fans have enabled this owner by buying an inferior product. Ralph Wilson is beyond criticism at this point in his life. What the heck does he care anymore. It will be up to the next owner to right the ship. For his part, Ralph Wilson has made changes in the last two decades or so, but he keeps hiring mediocre personnel. Mediocre coaches and general managers are hired every three years or so and he still expects different results. Even the diehard, Pollyanna, Kool-Aid fans are now beginning to realize the Bills will never win under the Ralph Wilson ownership. Sadly, unlike some of the younger fans, I have known this for a very long time. -
just throwing a name out there...
Billsguy replied to london_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why hire more mediocre coaches to replace the current mediocre coach? Ridiculous! This is like a dog chasing his tail. It will get you nowhere. -
Does anybody ever wonder why players who come to a crappy organization play lousy? Players aren't stupid and they won't put out their best effort for crappy coaches who don't put their players in positions to succeed. Maybe Brad Smith is playing lousy right now, but after he arrived in Buffalo and discovered the coaches were clueless in how to utilize his talents then maybe he is just going through the motions collecting his checks. Many players have come to the Bills just for a check. The organization is a joke and many players won't give maximum effort to an organization that is run like clowns and coached by clowns. I am not defending players who do this, but it is just an observation.

Fitz's Inaccuracy A Problem Going Forward?
Billsguy replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Over the last three games Fitz has a QB rating around 47. This is really bad! It is not fair to blame him completely. After all, he is hampered by an inferior coaching staff and an inferior offensive line. BTW, does anyone know why the Bills' defensive coordinator has a job in the NFL? His track record is abysmal. Look at his record in Buffalo and he has to be the worst DC in the league and yet he still gets a paycheck. For what? -

I'm lost. I thought I was on the Buffalo Bills message board, but apparently I'm on the Broncos board. -
The Bills allowed 44 pts. How long will it take for people to realize the biggest problem is bad coaching and game strategy? For instance, if you don't have the greatest receivers but you have a stud running back then a good strategy might be to run the ball. However, none of the offensive strategy matters if your defense can't stop anyone. Don't count on any QB to score 45 or more per game.

Bills Offense: This Is Why We've Been Figured Out
Billsguy replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To quote Nick Mendola, "Bills first four drives: Punt, missed FG, TD, punt. Cowboys first four drives: TD, TD, TD, TD." Where's the defense? Where's the pass rush? On offense, Fred Jackson has been almost unstoppable and he gets only 13 carries. This is bad coaching. The Bills have a bad defensive coordinator and mediocre head coach. -
CJ Spiller Is going to be a weapon
Billsguy replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Neither Spiller nor Smith has had plenty of opportunities. Jackson should get 25 carries a game and Spiller needs to get at least 15. Spiller and Smith will certainly be called failures if they never get to play. The Bills are a little pass happy at the moment with an average QB. They are a little shy on the run game and they have an excellent RB. That is what you call bad coaching! -
CJ Spiller Is going to be a weapon
Billsguy replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have touched on a major point here. The Bills coaching staff, for whatever reason, has failed to get the ball into the hands of two of the best athletes on the team. The failure to utilize Spiller and Brad Smith is downright criminal. These are the type of decisions which reinforce the view that this coaching staff is mediocre at best. In addition, Fred Jackson has been phenomenal all season and even he doesn't get enough carries. Who is responsible? Chan Gailey. Gailey will never be more than a mediocre coach. -

those of us that have left western ny
Billsguy replied to kickedface's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are so many Buffalo ex-pats and each has a different point of view. Having traveled extensively through the US I can tell you there are no perfect places, but only different places. I grew up in WNY and wouldn't have traded it for anything, but I'm glad I left when I did. There are many things to praise about the region and many things to criticize. I choose to remember all the great things and hope my hometown prospers in the future.
