  1. This was a mistake from the start. Its not an accident the Bills organization has been spinning its wheels for over a decade. Tarvaris is not an NFL QB. What were the Bills doing when they picked him up?
  2. Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds? It's pointless. Who cares?
  3. Exactly right. Thank you for pointing it out that Memorial Day is a remembrance for those who have died in service.
  4. ESPN will probably cut all the low level staff people so that they can hire another 250 ex-jocks to provide "analysis". ESPN receives $5.15 per subscriber per month. This is outrageous!!! The satellite and cable systems don't have the balls to stand up to them. Every time ESPN demands an increase in fees, the providers put up no resistance and just pass the fee down to the little guy. ESPN and Disney are greedy and wasteful.
  5. The Kool-Aid flows mightily this time of year. The past season is far enough away so that the pain has subsided and spring has sprung! Just remember that the Bills went into the draft needing to fill holes at QB, WR, LB, CB, TE, OG, and S. They may have patched a couple if everything goes well. The bar has been dropped so low for the Bills that even signing a journeyman free agent gets everyone excited. Does that sound like a team ready to contend? I don't think they are even close.
  6. Agreed. He would be a very, very big dark horse to make the team. Too small. This is the NFL.
  7. I don't know if Jerry Hughes can play, but I do know that Kelvin Sheppard can't. Sheppard was AWOL on so many plays it was not surprising how bad the Bills defense was over the last year(s). You need a middle linebacker that is going to be significant and Sheppard was insignificant. The best part of a new coaching staff is looking at the personnel with fresh eyes. The Bills must have looked at the tape and said this guy (Sheppard) doesn't make any plays! I still think the best acquisition the Bills made since last year is Mike Pettine as DC. Hopefully Hughes can play well, but he is a mystery to me.
  8. I like some of these UDFA's more than some of the Bills draft picks.
  9. I like the pick, but I am a little confused. Don't the Bills usually wait until they are desperate at a position and then reach for one? Maybe these Bills are different?
  10. I watched 90% of his games and he looks better on paper than he does on the field. He has the measurables, but the Nevada secondary was absolutely brutal last year. They couldn't stop anybody through the air. He lacks a feel for the game that Jairus Byrd has. He doesn't have the instincts that the great safeties have. Sometimes he gets lost and loses his awareness of where everybody is around him. I don't know what the Bills were thinking. Maybe they just looked at his numbers. I watched him in person and he would not be in my secondary. Of course, I never understood how Chris Kelsay lasted so long either.
  11. Every team is excited after the draft. I doesn't matter if your team had a good draft because it is relative to your opposition. If every team had a good draft (and they all say they did) then maybe you improved your team, but failed to gain any ground on the teams above you. New England's draft was limited, but they are far ahead of Buffalo to start. I think the Dolphins had a stronger draft and the Jets arguably was at least as good as Buffalo. If you could trade the Bills draft for any other team's draft would you do it? I think many other teams drafted better than the Bills. The Bills took too many players too early. At least 4 players were taken at least a round early IMO. The Bills have a lot of work to do to become relevant again. Buddy Nix said he wanted to get 3 starters from this draft. I only see one (Woods - WR). EJ Manuel is not a pro QB at this point. The offensive line is not stronger without Levitre. They still have no tight end. They have a new QB with questionable credentials (Kolb). They have a rookie NFL head coach. I'm glad 95% of you are thrilled and excited, but nothing has been proven yet. Buddy Nix has a questionable record since he's been in Buffalo. Why would it change suddenly? The Bills have missed the playoffs for 13 years. I guess if you've been down in the basement for over a decade then you have to keep hope alive. Judging by the overwhelming enthusiasm on this board, the stadium will be sold out every Sunday!!!
  12. It was clearly a panic move. Last year Buddy blew it by not selecting a QB and this year he was desperate. They picked a couple players a round too early. The draft is not just about selecting players, but managing where and when you select them. How soon will Nix be leaving?
  13. Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline lives in north Florida and watched every game EJ Manuel played at Fla St and he believes the Bills made a terrible mistake. Grade F. How many in WNY have seen every game for this player? Isn't he allowed to have an opinion like all of you? Everybody seems quick to point out the notable mistakes made by the draft pundits. (like McShay liking Maybin) but they have been correct far more often than they have been wrong over the years. Now what makes everybody so confident that the Bills (perennial losers and AFC East doormats-just the facts) have suddenly become geniuses? I've been a Bills fan from day 1, but until they prove they are winners, then you have to figure they will find a way to lose. If the moves they make bring a winner back to Buffalo, I will be the first one to congratulate them. Until then, I'll remain skeptical.
  14. It's nice to see everyone is so enthusiastic and positive about the pick. I think the Bills panicked a bit and chose him too early though. Buddy was under intense pressure to select a QB based on his failure to get one last year.(when the QB class was stronger) I hope he becomes a great QB for the Bills. As I said in an earlier post, the Bills were faced with a relatively weak QB class and a strong class for lineman and therefore (based on history) they would select a QB. It is no coincidence that this organization hasn't made the playoffs in 13 years. Buddy said his goal was to get three starters with the top 3 picks, so I guess he better nail the next three picks.
  15. Since the strongest areas of this draft are the offensive line and defensive line and the weakest area is quarterback, I expect the Buffalo Bills to draft from the weakest area. Seriously, who knows what the brass at OBD is thinking? My hope is that they draft a premium offensive lineman. The loss of Levitre is not trivial. They are also desperate for a quality WR. Chance Warmack or Tavon Austin would fill areas of need. I see the best available QB drafted in round 2.
  16. Larry Felser was a great sports writer. Buffalo was blessed to have a writer of his talent for so many years. He will be missed.
  17. I agree that Austin would be a reach myself after re-consideration. I have always believed the big men are the most important. I saw Kaepernick,Dalton and Wilson get drafted in round 2 so I think the Bills will pass on a QB in round 1. They clearly have a need for a WR and TE, but they may wait until round 3 or later. I could see the Bills trading down with San Fran for 3 or 4 premium picks. The Bills give up number 8 for #31, a couple of #2's or a 1st next year and a 4th. Something to think about.
  18. Here is how I see the value if the Bills stay at #8. Offensive line: Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper. (safely assuming the tackles Joeckel and Fisher are gone) Wide receiver: Tavon Austin Cornerback: Dee Milliner Second round QB: best available TE: best available (if QB has been taken early) I don't fall into the QB in round 1 hysteria that has befallen Bills nation. The Bills acquired Kolb to fill the starting role for 2013. I think the Bills believe they can get a quality QB in round 2. If the Bills trade down in the 1st round, then I believe they might draft a QB first. I have always believed that when a team reaches to fill a position need that they overlook better players. I hope they take the best player regardless of position. I believe this makes sense because the Bills have needs in so many positions. BTW, three days to complete the draft is ridiculous.
  19. I just hope the Bills draft the best player regardless of position. They certainly have needs almost everywhere. I have always believed that the game is won in the trenches and therefore an elite offensive lineman would be OK with me. p.s. I love the conspiracy theory although I've seen no evidence that the Bills are that cunning.
  20. The Kolb signing is a desperation move out of pure necessity and nothing more. If the Bills weren't desperate, this would have never happened. However, the Bills have painted themselves in a corner with no legitimate starting QB so they had to do something. The franchise has sunk so low that moves this questionable are praised. "Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed" should be the Bills motto.
  21. Does this sound like desperation to anyone else? They cut a mediocre Fitzpatrick for a mediocre Kolb? What a franchise!
  22. The Bills do need a TE. The Bills also need a QB, the need WR's, they need OL, they need LB's, and these are just the critical needs. Does this sound like a contender? Not so much.
  23. History is not on your side. The overwhelming evidence from OBD is just the opposite: paying more for less.
  24. The dude in the back doing the lunges is training his body for functional strength and flexibility. Smart move. Troup is doing static leg presses with almost no range of motion. Not the smartest move. I hope he can recover and help the Bills. They sure can use the help.
