  1. Honestly, after the draft, I thought the 1st round QBs went to the best possible team for the team and the player. While I wasn't super hyped about ANY of these QBs I figured one, or two, would pan out--but which one? If I had to pick one for the Bills it was Allen. Big. Great arm. Tough. Athletic. I admit his "inaccuracy" was a bit worse than I anticipated---especially on the short passes. But I still think that's more an issue of timing, anticipation and form, than anything else. I think I've seen major improvements already. But as others have said, he probably isn't a 65% West Coast Offense kind of player. I'm fine with that. So in a nutshell, I was very positive about Allen when he was drafted. I'm even more thrilled seeing his development this year. I think the Bills have found their QB IF he can stay healthy. I love that he runs, and how he runs. But for God's sake, get this guy some protection!
  2. NICE. Way to represent. MetLife is not a great place to tailgate---but it has to be done!
  3. RIP Stan. You were responsible for many of the favorite comics of my youth. -nuff said
  4. Every win is satisfying. That's not to say there can't be criticism when they go look at the tape. That happens with every game. But you always take an ugly win. Sometimes the difference between a bad and a good team, is who gets the ugly wins.
  5. Exactly. I can't be sure of the issue, but I find it hard to believe Steve puts the same time and effort into preparing for his broadcast job as he did preparing for football. For a guy like Steve, I don't believe there are shortcuts. He simply doesn't have enough natural talent to be great at it naturally.
  6. Certainly better than "fartistry".
  7. Took me a second or two, but then I laughed out loud. Sorry, I'm easily amused, at times.
  8. I think this is very cool, with one caveat: The profits should be going to some legit charity. If that's the case, it's awesome. If not, then I'm not familiar enough with the copyright details to weigh-in.
  9. Just seems like a racist humor column to me.
  10. Ideally I'm guessing almost nobody wants to keep three QBs. But with the current OL, they may need to sign a few more QBs just to be guaranteed there is one healthy to play the position.
  11. Agree with your Winfield assessment, 100% doggy. That was a hell of a return by his son.
  12. One more very minor (in the big picture) thing. The telecast of the game is probably in danger for me, due to this shooting. I understand as I worked in local TV for many years. The news coverage of the shooting HAS to take preference. Guess I'm searching for a stream.
  13. I was going to post this here when I first heard about it. Then I wasn't sure where to post it. Finally I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Just so sick. (I know, the answer is they all should have had REAL guns to defend themselves. The the shooter would have been stopped sooner! And the crossfire probably would have taken out about three times as many people.* * Unofficial estimate.)
  14. Sometimes specific circumstances may require you reconsider one's common sense answer, but for the most part I think you are correct about this. In this case the XP was the obvious/automatic choice. Going for two would have been a "special circumstance" type of gameday decision (kicker hurt, for example). Again, I will accept it was done to get the preseason rep. But with over four minutes left in the game, I cannot accept it was done simply to avoid the tie. And I completely reject the argument it was good strategy, if one was actually trying to win the game.
  15. I don't know what he ate, but I think it made him woozy. He just went for two, while down 30-26 four minutes left in the 4th quarter. Why wouldn't you just take the point and stay w/in FG range? Am I missing something? Well, other than it's preseason. Which is a good enough reason, I suppose. But the announcers seemed to be trying to rationalize it in a strategic way. I think they were reaching.
  16. Newman. These days what keeps me coming back to check in on this site is the amazing work of these two posters. For a while I was confused and sometimes I believe I referred to one as the other, in a reply. I thought of them as a collective---Bills Borg as it were. Nobody is on top of the Bills like these two guys. The Bills should pay them. Seriously.
  17. Other than the OP I haven't read any post. And I would have never even posted in this thread as I don't like to support any player-bashing threads. But the headline just made me laugh out loud. Peterman and McCarron Suck. Not trying to be funny. I'm sitting here pondering the context that would someone to interpret "Peterman and McCarron Suck" as something funny. Keep in mind. I found it very funny, but ONLY after reading "Not trying to be funny". Someone points a gun at you and says "I'm killing you and your family"---not funny whatsoever. Same guy point a gun at you and says "I'm killing you and your family. Not Trying to be funny"--you might be chuckling a bit. Well, I might be.
  18. Count me among those that prefer to watch it from home. Like you, Duby, I keep all the TVs in the house on (and one on the patio). I tend to pace around during a game, so I can be in any room and not miss the action. Go outside and smoke a cigar (or whatever) if I want. Most of the time I prefer to watch alone. But watching with a knowledgeable committed Bills fan or two, is good as well. But since I don't have DirectTV, there are few games I can really watch like that. So I like to go to a bar close by (walking distance is good, crawling distance is better) and watch with a few fellow fans. On occasions I will go watch with a large group of Bills fans. If the Bills are playing well and winning, that can be a very cool, celebratory experience. The problem in St Augustine is, the Bills Backers bar kind of sucks. Beer and wine only (I like bourbon during the game), small, downtown where it is sometimes difficult to park. Some other places I've been (like McFadden's in NYC) are far too obnoxious for me to tolerate. Loud music and announcements during commercials---really stupid stuff. Yes, I'm old. But I've always been more interested in The Game. Not the extracurricular stuff. I watched a game in LA with Kelly the Dog at a very nice bar, with many Bills fans. More low-key. That's the way I like it.
  19. Not being argumentative here, but why not just use the regular url link? The page loads more quickly without the images in the useless embedded video. For the record, I feel the same way about all the twitter images, too. I mean I have 50mbs Internet. I shouldn't have to wait for some of these threads (this has nothing to do with you, Bills Blog, I'm just ranting now) to finish loading. What if I still had DSL? I'm very grateful to TSW and the two workhorses Yolo and 26Corner. They do a great job. I just wish they weren't always embedding images, instead of just supplying the link. Yes, I'm old.
  20. Congratulations. Neither of your videos work. But at least they were decent and work on youtube.
  21. This is all very interesting, but also all very nebulous. There can be some pretty wide variances in the general concepts of "Ready to play" and "better chance to win". I mean a player can be "ready enough" or "as ready as he will ever be". A player might give a team a very slightly better chance to win, or make a big difference and tip the scale of likelihood. So let's see if we can crack this nut. First of all, of course the play of the other QBs has SOME relevance to whether Allen gets the starting nod, game one. I mean if Peterman or AJ really light it up, then I think the plan to let Allen sit for awhile goes relatively undisturbed--at least for a few games. I was going to type "no matter how good Allen looks", but even that is a poor statement. But we know (if we believe their earlier statements) the front office does not want to rush Allen into the job. The thing is, neither of the top 2 QBs on the roster is blowing the doors off the competition. AJ has been OK, but now he's injured. Peterman has looked pretty good, but we know his skill-set is limited. (I don't think bringing up the 5 INT game is that useful in this evaluation, though.) Still, the FO should be focusing on the long-term success of Allen, and the team. Not simply interested in getting and extra win, or two, early in the season. Of course, and extra win or two early in the year, can make a big difference to the season record. The very worst thing that can happen, IMO, is for Allen to be put in a no-win/desperate situation. It greatly increases his chance at being injured and can lead to the QB-killing situations this team has specialized in for many years now. We all blame the individual players, but we have to know some of the failed Bills QBs of the past few years, could have had very different careers had they had more favorable situations when they first started to play. For the sake of the team, long term, I really hope they don't screw this one up. And, yes, as has been noted, Allen is likely to make the line look a little better, given his quick release, ability to move around and arm strength. The team (and crowd) seem to really come alive when Josh is behind center. That's one of the reasons this thread is so interesting. I just hope they give Allen a shot with the ones, this week. But in the end, I'm ready to trust the HC on this one. I think McDermott's judgement has been very good, so far. The one big decision that seems to have failed (according to most) is starting Peterman against the Chargers. But even that move may have been successful. Tyrod was in a funk and playing poorly. It's possible that his sitting helped to turn things around for him, a bit. It's very possible the bills start Tyrod instead of Nate and actually don't make the playoffs. Same thinking goes for Deshaun Watson. Everyone saying it was a mistake to sit him early in the year. Really? Give his success when finally getting a start, I'd say it worked great. You shouldn't assume Deshaun would have had as good of a year, had he been forced to start Week 1, when the team was still working out their kinks. I was as big of a Watson fan as anyone, but I'm not questioning how he was handled. I guess I'm just ready to "trust the process", for now anyway.
  22. Thanks. For some reason that link didn't work earlier, for me.
  23. Agreed. If he can fill those positions he is extremely valuable.
  24. Any link to the video of the presser? I stayed on NFL Network for awhile (they promised they'd break in with the post game conference), but lost interest. I see nothing at the moment on NFL.com or the Bills' site.
