Bills UDFA thread. Signings only. Listed on pg. 9

Its an open spot. They perform well they earn a spot. Not saying any one is certain to get one other than those drafted in rounds 1-3. the starters aren’t going anywhere...the battle will be in depth positions. Baseline for the team... offense...2QB, 2RB, 4WR, 3TE, 8 OL (19) defense..6 DL, 5 LB, 5 CB, 3 S (19) K, P, KR/PR, LS 42 total 11 up for grabs...likely 4 for D, 4 for O, 1 for special teams, 2 are for rookies to keep who may not clear waivers for PS. -

Rd 5, Pick 167: QB Jake Fromm, Georgia

I see this team keeping Barkley and state farm on the roster. Barkley has experience in nflfor back up. Next year Barkley is a free agent so thry have stste farm after a yr of seasoning as a replacement then you get potential what happened in Washington with RG3 and Cousins ( also a 5th round pick) -
It happens when teams flip spots. If they want the same player it doesn’t happen. it doesn’t have to happen. It usually occurs when teams have consecutive picks, if there are teams between them it’s pointles because you don’t know who they will draft. with the Sabres in 2008 draft. Buffalo flipped in 1st round with LA and the gems exchanged on paper who they would draft. If name was same then no trade. It was SF and Chicago for trubinsky. Chicago knew teams were talking to thrm to trade up. They wanted him.

Buffalo Draft Grades From National News

I agree 40 speed doesn’t matter as much at DE. Shor quickness is more important. im not sure how much of a pass rusher he is. That will be the valuable. Many DE can get high sack totals due to pressure elsewhere but they aren’t the focal point of a pass rush. -

He fell because ause he had knee and back surgery and wasn’t the same as in pre injury im fine signing him as a UDFA who may be a 2 yr project and see if he can return to form. -
In thadt 10 years only 7 TEs were picked in the first round. what does that say to you? You don’t invest early in TEs . Instead you draft them in the 3rd-5th rounds and hope they can develop.

Lets no mix a TE playing in a WR position on a play vs actually playing in a TE slot.
-
They drafted TE last year they knew this draft would be weak in TE they have Knox, Sweeney, and kroft this is more likely TE by committee you figure they likely have a rotation of 4 WRs in a game and 2 RBs who catch passes they used a late 3rdon Knox and brought in Kroft last year. Not every rookie has sn all pro season. have 100+ yds per game will be a bad measuring stick. Getting 100+ yd games is not a measuring stick. hiw many 20+ down field throws to receivers were there last season. To get 100+ yd games you usually need a couple of long pass plays in a game not a bunch of 4-10 yd pass plays.

Sometimes it’s hard to se the arm on video if they don’t throw certain routes. Another factor that is ignored both ways is coaching and talent around you. -
I laugh st st all these early drafts and see hoe off they end up. This years top pick was looking like a late 3rd day pick if even drafted.

PFF Best Player Available Going Into Day 3
djp14150 replied to CSBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get the need piece in drafting Spiller as a complementary back. But you don’t burn two top 20 picks on running backs. they could have drafted a RB in the 3rd or 4th round and it would have bern fine. -
PFF Best Player Available Going Into Day 3

Is BPA for best player or best potential... 4th and 5th round are players who can help you now 6th and 7th are more projects that you don’t expect stuff from them this next season. They have some raw skill but need more training or development. one thing I’d like to see..teams have a 3 -5 player development list which exempts them from playing but also exempts them from waivers. -
RD 3, Pick 86: RB Zach Moss, University of Utah
djp14150 replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why are they devalued? teams have shifted to more of a backs by commute in part because one gets tired the other reason is Data has shown fal off with ball touches. A RB could go through this after 4-5 yrs. as a result teams look at a 1st and say I shoukd have this player with my team for 8+ yrs. most RBs don’t last that long as a full time player. -

You can get a decent RB ot WR in the 3rd. It’s harder to get DE later in a draft. -

My thoughts.... i saw him as BPA where thry drafted unsure if he will be Shaw Lawson or a better pass rusher. This was a 2nd rather than a 1st so there isn’t that impact pressure. i think another big factor...it’s harder to get DE pass rusher in 3rd/4th than it is to get a RB or WR.. buffalo could trade up in the 3rd to get someone.
