  1. Given the immediacy with which China urged the lifting of sanctions and the likelihood of other nations like Russia and S Korea also working behind the scenes, why else would Trump seemingly contradict himself only a day after saying no sanctions relief until the nukes are gone by then saying N Korea is no longer a nuclear threat? Yeah, I believe sanctions will be lifted sooner than later and MUCH sooner than a fully verified denuclearization of N Korea would take. What else explains Trump's overnight shift? Per you last paragraph, other than an agreement to reach an agreement, what have we gotten? The hostages were already home before the summit and, while I appreciate the act of good faith, it was no longer something they could offer at the table. And we've seen the same regarding the return of remains in the past.
  2. Absolutely. Which is why this is too eerily similar to the 6 party talks in the early part of this century and even the earlier talks in the 90s. Reading Trump's comment linked above, clinches it for me. Saying there is no longer a nuclear threat from N Korea means the road to lift the sanctions has been paved. Seems his rhetoric immediately after the summit regarding how the sanctions wouldn't be lifted until the nukes are gone was nothing more than to placate those that were worried he gave up something for nothing. Because until the nukes really are disposed of and every site is verified by the IAEA, including military installations (as was agreed to twice previously in writing), then that's exactly what he did if the sanctions are lifted.
  3. Nobody disputes the facts. It's your contempt for the people in the photograph and the douchey way you express it simply because you don't like their appearance.
  4. China immediately suggested sanctions should be lifted, N Korea media reports that we did agree to lift them at the summit, and Trump says only when nukes are not a factor, which will take a long time, which is the best course of action, imo. But I'm skeptical that the sanctions won't be lifted before they denuclearize because China and Russia will start pressing harder for sanctions relief as they have in the past.

  6. Looks like the douchebaggery epidemic is worse than the obesity epidemic.
  7. Yeah, but what about that douchebaggery?
  8. Until we know the details, I’ll stick with my opinion as previous multi lateral talks in 90s and 2000s had concrete, substantive, tangible, and transparent methodology for both denuclearization and verification by the IAEA, including military installations. At present, this is nothing more than an agreement to have an agreement which isn’t nothing. And from a symbolic POV, having our president himself at the table set an important precedent. But we need to know the details before I can salute anything.
  9. Starting point yes, and that’s important. But we’ve actually been a helluva lot farther with N Korea in the past only to see them resort to their usual crap.
  10. Another in a rapidly growing list of little things that suggest this kid will be successful. As per the bold text, you’d be surprised how many rookie QBs lack the humility to do that.
  11. Obese people can seek treatment and make a change. Where can you go to treat your douchebaggery?
  12. Good point about concessions vs symbolic gestures. We would do well to remember that. Gestures are important to the process, particularly in most Asian cultures. It will be interesting to see how some of the Asian media outlets spin our goodwill gesture. And, as predicted, China wasted no time in demanding that sanctions against N Korea be lifted.

  14. The more I hear Josh Allen speak and speak at length, the more impressive he gets. It was a little thing, but when they asked about he and Phillips taking the pics with the wedding party at the stadium the other day, the first thing he mentioned, the first, was that Austin Proehl was also in the picture as well. A little thing like I said, but indicative of the kind of teammate he will be. Can't believe they had a "convicted rapist" on there as a guest, though.
  15. And the sheep were mighty nervous as the old saying goes.
  16. Great listen, thanks for posting. The more I hear Josh Allen speak and speak at length, the more impressive he gets. 17. And we wore onions from our belts, as was the fashion in the day. The "good old days" means that time in your life when you didn't have the responsibilities of an adult.
  18. Thanks, Juror. My dad walked the walk for sure. If I have a chance, I’ll check out those places in Silver Spring. Thanks for he tip.
  19. 1) Totally agree. 2) The “legal sense” doesn’t necessarily matter when it comes to what the Congress may consider as “high crimes and misdemeanors” and “abuse of power” may have a wide scope in their deliberation of the matter. Especially when the president would had to have been found guilty of a crime in order to have something to pardon himself for in the first place. Conduct deemed unbecoming may be enough. I totally agree with everything else in your post. One helluva Constitutional issue indeed.
  20. If the Senate construed the act of self pardon as an abuse of power, the crimes and when they occurred don’t matter. How can it be an abuse of power if that power is enumerated in the Constitution? The idea I’ve heard put forth is the notion of using that power for his own self interest is in itself an abuse of that power. I keep thinking of that old Looney Tunes cartoon with the elephant that plays baseball and the line “there’s nothing in the rule book that says an elephant can’t pitch.”
  21. Your second paragraph is key to the issue. Which is why so many legal scholars don’t think he would succeed even if he did pardon himself as the Senate may construe the act as an impeachable offense in and of itself. It would be an interesting test of the Senate.
  22. My dad and sister served/serve in Buffalo public schools so I’m not personally familiar with the DC school experience or with the Maryland schools that Juror was pointing out for that matter. Besides, I don’t think the money per student issue addresses the point he was making. His point goes far deeper than that; the very environments in which the schools he experienced were located for starters.
  23. Outstanding. Over 60 years ago, when he first became an educator, my late dad purposely chose assignment in the very type of neighborhood you describe. Many years later, my sister made the same choice and still serves in the most economically challenged district. My dad and my sister, like you, pointed to many of the same conditions you describe above. Lack of everything from coats to shoes to nutrition to the very classroom tools required (abundantly available in other districts) etc., render it nearly impossible for kids to learn, let alone succeed. It’s criminal that this is still the reality for so many. As as an aside, I happen to be in the DC area for a bit and I shopped at the Safeway on Thayer yesterday. Small world. I meant to add that your mom sounds like an incredible person. Indomitable spirit comes to mind.
