I understand that, which is why I was curious as to the nature of his sacks.. So he’s still taking off and running a lot vs. staying in the pocket then? I haven’t seen him except on highlights, etc. But if he’s still bailing out too early, I can see his OC telling Hue that he’d rather have Baker in there.

Ain’t happening.

It doesn’t matter to me because the “actual date the term was coined” (whatever that means) goes back decades. It may seem like it was recently invented due to its modern day vast overuse by writers too unoriginal and narrow minded to discern between different levels of higher athletic talent in prospects across various sports, but I’ve seen the term used to describe several players across several sports for a long time. For instance, I was privy to a 1981 scouting report on Herschel Walker and “generational” was used to describe his potential. I’d be interested to know who, in your research, actually takes credit for first using the term. Given it’s overuse, he should file for the copyrights.

MNF: Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears at 8:15 PM on ESPN

This new ESPN announcing team is an assault on my ears and an insult to anyone’s football intelligence. I can’t recall a worse crew in the history of televised football. -
You gonna tell me that Whaley and Co. didn’t think they were one or two players away only to try applying band aid fixes for those areas (read QB). Those .500 seasons DIRECTLY lent itself to that mindset. And that self delusion is what prevented them from taking the bold steps necessary to get that QB and reshape a mediocre roster into a contender. It all begins with talent, but you need a bunch of other parts working in concert; from coaching to scouting support staff to turn into perennial contenders. Thanks for the history lesson though.

Yeah, but there’s no way ANY GM is gonna give up multiple number one picks for him. Again. -
Great point about compromise and, I think Beane was willing to go there much more so than McDermott. But that missed bus before the Ravens preseason game last year and some subsequent tardiness for meetings stuck in his craw. And there were several games early on where Dareus just wasn’t putting forth effort. At all. That, coupled with his one strike status, made it easier for Beane to move on. Yeah, ok. So we’re good then.

I doubt that. But I understand given the nature of internet forums. I’ll just say when it comes to things like this, I’m not given to “believing what I want” but more in what I’ve been told. Directly.

No, it’s most definitely not a crock, I assure you.

10 yard punt? How is that possible? -

Mack is a force. I almost feel sorry for that right tackle. -
Kind of a moot point, though. Nobody ever denied he was a good player who could dominate at times and make it difficult for opposing offenses, but he lost interest in being here, wanted a fresh start, and we obliged. Why would they want to keep a malcontent when they were trying to establish something? Never mind. We beat this dead horse and then some after the deal went down, no sense in rehashing it now.
-
So tell me, oh wise QB guru, where does it “need to be?” The world awaits your sage insight.
-
No, it absolutely true. How long should we keep this up? He wanted out and Beane obliged. That simple. I know that for a fact.
-
Dareus made it ABUNDANTLY clear he didn’t want to be here any more. Why carry all that salary for a malcontent who only put forth effort when he felt like it last year? Should the Pegulas have fired the coach instead?

The curse of the perpetual .500 (or there about) team. Constantly treading water and deluding yourselves into thinking you’re just a player or two away when the reality is far different as we’ve seen.

Ah, google. The repository of all newspaper articles from 30 and 40 years ago. Since you didn’t read the sports pages back then, maybe you can find them on microfilm down at the library. The term has never been confined to hockey, either, so you can broaden your search perhaps. Regardless, it has become a trite reference in the last 15 years or so.
