  1. Glad it wasn’t Allen’s john or vice would have been called in.
  2. Back in the golden days, it was quite common for Kelly and Co. to go into a game with no more than 8-12 plays and then run variations off those to exploit favorable matchups. Plays known stone cold by talented players who could execute on the fly with a QB that could read a defense. God, I miss those days.
  3. Wow. You can't teach that. You can instruct and advise QBs to do that, but you can't teach that kind of poise. That is rare in experienced NFL QBs and to see it in a college freshman is remarkable. Who's got the inside track on the starting job down there? Lot to like about Hurts, but he might be a hard sell to the rest of the team at this point. Especially in light of Tua's second half performance in the championship game.
  4. I would want to get an athlete like Jackson on the field, too, so it’s not surprising they would incorporate play packages to do that. But there is still only one QB on the field and the other becomes another skill position player to be keyed on. That’s obvious of course but it’s not a minor point when it comes to the idea of playing “two QBs.”
  5. No. For a couple reasons. One, when they are both on the field, one of them can’t be a QB. Two, and more importantly, outside of a few plays to incorporate into a game plan, it’s a challenge to do much more than that on a week to week basis.
  6. His athleticism was freaky to say the least. If he possessed the same maniacal dedication to his preparation like Bruce did, he would have been a first ballot HOFer. I also think he could have been one of the greatest MLBs of all time had he given that a chance when asked.
  7. Does he still call that team, “Leaky Gas?”
  8. It’s a tie, whoever it is.
  9. Would it surprise you to know that Goodwin followed the nutrional and strength training programs prescribed by the Bills’ staff while he trained for his long jump competition? Really? There is more specialized training in each sport compared to 40 years ago? Stop the presses! Care to list the similarities the two disciplines DO share? Which was my point all along. Good point about building muscle mass and now that his track career is over, Goodwin has dedicated himself more to that end it seems. I doubt he will achieve much more than 5 - 7 lbs on his frame without starting to negatively impact his flexibility and speed, however. Most importantly for Goodwin, he can devote the time needed to the specialized work required to make himself a better wideout, exclusively. Something he clearly didn’t do while pursuing his Olympic dream in the offseason between the ‘15 and ‘16 seasons.
  10. Discussion is one thing, being a prick because you can’t tolerate someone’s optimism is a dick move. Every. Time.
  11. Can never have too many long snappers.
  12. The basis for the statement Is a familiarity with the exercise physiology and nutrition required for training at elite levels. Of course there are “specific” areas of training for both disciplines. I’m speaking more in general terms of the nutrition and strength training required for both. The Bills trainers were ok with it because the nutrional requirements and strength training required for his long jumping wouldn’t cause him to lose muscle mass and the intensive sprint training is similar to that of a WR as it is. I alluded to the fact he ignored the specialized focus required for his development as a WR, so I agree with you on that score.
  13. Also, the differences in the training and nutritional regimens for that of long jumpers and sprinters vs. those for WRs are virtually non-existent. From that standpoint alone, Goodwin gave up nothing in terms of preparedness for the NFL which is why the Bills were totally on board in support of his Olympic pursuit. The idea that they weren't is revisionist. The problem was he wasn't learning to be a better wide receiver in the process of preparing for the Olympics and his self-preservation mode during football season limited his desire to get back on the field, which was an issue.
  14. Point is, it doesn't matter what lessons you've learned; there's absolutely NO reason to pee on someone else's Cheerios if they choose to remain optimistic heading into the season. What's the point of that, anyway? Is it simply to begrudge someone their optimism in the absence of any of your own; to insist that others must wallow in pessimism because you choose to? It's no skin off your back one way or the other, so why?
  15. Optimist season. Give them a break.
  16. Can we also add up all his strengths and predict he’s gonna overcome some of his weaknesses and make some insanely athletic plays on occasion? Plays that others without his combination of size and athleticism simply can’t make? Yes, QBs are going to take advantage of his inexperience, but he’s going to show them a thing or two of his own.
  17. If the scouting grades reported are true, that he would have been a second rounder this year or is a projected 1st round grade next year, then we will have to spend a second to get him. But I don't believe those grades at all as little time would have been invested in his evaluation by scouts that actually do it for a living. Are scouts aware of him as a prospect? Certainly. But the more focused scouting would have commenced in August of this year as the college season began to ramp up. The much more intensive and scrutinizing wouldn't have begun until next January, after the college season concluded. A third is as high as I would go, but I have to believe other teams in higher drafting position feel the same way.
  18. Does the old adage, “You bring your team to camp”, still apply?
  19. Thanks for taking the time to find and link these articles.
  20. Flats? Nobody calls them paddles anymore?
  21. Any buffaloes in the Jersey area?
  22. Great moniker. About 10 years ago I was grocery shopping in the DC area and ran into a guy wearing a vintage McAdoo jersey. I yelled, “two for McAdoo” and we laughed about some great Aud memories. Danny Neaverth invented a catch phrase for the ages.
