  1. Lot of open spots... we were going to sign people. It's inevitable
  2. We werent going to be worse than SF, CLE, and NYJ anyway. Those 3 are all seeming to head down the tank for rosen/darnold.
  3. yeah - sometimes leaks are on purpose. Or to help drive up the price for other teams.
  4. We can't win the division anyway over that time frame - so keep trying to find the guy. If the coaching staff believes they can win with him, then keep him. If you believe he can improve, then keep him. I think it would hurt more to see him succeed elsewhere than it would for him to fail here. Our fanbase is used to failure at this point. However much money we pay him does not prohibit the team from continuing to search for a QB, nor does it prohibit us from drafting someone in the first this year or next. We also drafted a project QB who could benefit from valuable reps that he won't get as a scout team QB. If you care to see whether Cardale's abilities can transition into an NFL offense, you have to give him more reps and responsibility. I know the anti-Tyrod people hate this perspective, but to me its the unfortunate truth. We cannot win the division, and we aren't currently positioned to bottom out (bad contracts can't be terminated yet). Why not try to make the playoffs the next couple of years with the guys you got, and give this team and it's fans a small win with a playoff game (even if it will 100% be an away game). This is my take and trying to make it as realistic a take as possible. I'm sick of stupid Russ Brandon "splashes", and trying to sell tickets. Just get the best team together that you can and try and win. I don't need stat or height comparison's to make this judgement. It just seems like the locker room is behind the guy, and McDermott seems to have a good head on his shoulders. This probably gives him the best chance to burst that playoff bubble (as soon as possible) that has been hanging over our collective heads for the last 17 years.
  5. Who cares... we could have rivers or brees and we're still not winning this division. Sorry.
  6. I wouldn't cut McCoy as the cap savings aren't that great. You can split it over 2 years, but you're just compounding your cap issue by creating a hole where we didn't have one. I'd consider trading him though, as you can actually get an asset for him. Our leading receiver was clay - who i thought had a lousy year (drops, and low targets).
  7. Put me down as thinking we should keep Tyrod. Our success for the next couple of years is going to be measured in making the playoffs, and adding impact players in the draft. If you think you can acquire an impact QB - go for it. But we aren't winning the division for the next 5 years - and bottoming out is just going to cause us to fire everyone. Do I think he's a franchise QB? No. But looking at it realistically - we should be trying to manage the cap better, and add good talented players on both sides of the ball for the post-brady era. Try to find QBs however you can, but if there's a player who you think could be a pro-bowler at 10 vs. a project QB, I'd probably go with the projected pro-bowler at this stage. We have like 3 or 4 years to find a QB before it really matters.
  8. What about Cleveland, San Fran and the NYJ? They are all likely going to be really bad
  9. Id like to see him retire with the team - but he's a good dude. I'd also like to see him play in a playoff game while he's still good. We could use the space to add another lineman, and maybe an affordable pass rusher. We have a ton of money invested in interior line, and very little depth at end/pass rusher.
  10. I thought the snaps under center vs. shotgun was a bit telling on our overall strategy.
  11. Tough to see this early on - but i love mocks and the lead up to the draft. The combine will bump some folks up - but i always say the film doesn't lie. That's why Raglands like... 40 speed wasn't as important to me. I know he can play. Too often I think guys spend a ton of time training for the combine - and 40 speed without pads just doesn't translate to NFL speed. The split second differences mean nothing to me personally. It'd alarm me if someone did like exceptionally poor, as that seems like laziness.
  12. Good fit - they have Osweiler to start... once he inevitably fails, you have mahomes to plug in. I could see Chad kelly earlier than expected to Houston in a similar situation. They need to push Osweiler to be better - because he held the team back as much as Hoyer and Fitz did before. If not more.
  13. I felt like Whaley was not prepared, and the only preparation was to basically not give answers.
  14. I don't think that the new coach was brought in to tank for the 3rd best QB in the 2018 draft. I think he was likely brought in to bring some accountability and discipline to a team that lacked it, as well as win some football games. As that is most likely his goal - he's going to start the best player they can get at EVERY position including QB. If the new staff believes that Tyrod is the best QB they can get, he will be the guy for the next 2 years. If we draft someone next year and want to start him - we can trade Tyrod. The cap hit will be tough, but at least you get something back for the money spent. In year 3, his trade value is actually really high, as his base salaries are low for 3 years.
  15. I prefer to trade down... ur not gonna find a gen in the 6th or 7th if u legit never have any picks there. Not to mention your misses are magnified that much more, and ur roster becomes expensive to maintain against the cap. Rookies are cheap.
  16. I think there are examples of both ways. If you have an amazing QB it makes your job a lot easier - that is clear.
  17. The reason is the cash guarantees a multi-year commitment. If we get rid of him after 1 - were left with a Romo-like cap hit as we have the 3.25 guaranteed base (which we might get back in cash but not cap - i don't know TBH), plus the remaining 12.4 from the option bonus, and another 1.5 in roster bonuses. We could split it over 2 years if we decide to cut him - but its like 10 mil a year in dead cap for a team that's tight. Makes him hard to trade after 1 year because we have to eat the whole hit in 1 year (again not sure who takes on the cap for the guaranteed base in the trade scenario). If we keep him - id say don't necessarily draft anyone. You're going with Tyrod, and you're developing Cardale. If neither seems viable in 2018 - you can draft someone and you either live with Tyrod for a year, cut him for future cap savings (or to defer half to the next year) or see if he has value on the trade market (he will - his base salaries are reasonable).
  18. I just don't get reaching for a guy at 10 - if in your opinion there are several better prospects for 2018. If we want a QB next year - we should do everything we can to acquire draft capital for next year, as we'll probably have to move in front of someone to get a guy we want. We're not getting a top 2 pick next year. That's likely SF and Cleveland. I don't see either of them going after Jimmy G, because the price is too high, and his pay will be too high after the last year of his rookie deal. 1st and 2nd overall in 2018 gives you an affordable QB through 2023. Those 2 will wait - and they'll be bad in 2017. So now you're looking at BEST the 3rd best QB in a good class. D'arnold and either Allen/Rosen is gone by pick 3. Now we also have teams like Chicago, Jax, and the Jets. One likely takes a QB this year and will "wait and see" but if any of them are below us in the standings (fairly likely IMO), then that takes the last of the big 3 out. Even tanking is tough in this league because so many teams have similar flaws, and other massive holes. Jets are old, Chicago's lousy, Jacksonville is young and can't figure out how to win. If Jax is in the cellar again, i think they cut ties with bortles - aren't on the hook for any dead money - and add a new QB.
  19. He only started because of injury. The same injury-plagued QB everyone is clamoring for.
  20. The defense had a lot to do with losses to miami (x2 - 28/34 Points allowed and a 200 yard rusher in both games), seattle (big plays, terrible officiating (cost us 3) - in a game where we would've kicked for OT, and a terrible punting effort probably cost us in this one - 32.7 yards per punt long of 36 and a 22 yard return), and NYJ (Fitz 374, and a 100 yard rusher). Win a couple of those and we're in the playoffs - we also don't bench tyrod for a Jets game if it has any meaning.
  21. I could start at QB and we're not getting #1 overall. The browns are drafting garret this year, and will be the worst team in the league. It was like arizona trying to tank with buffalo... Buffalo was fully committed. Goalie makes 30 saves? He's on a plane headed to dallas the next day. We're not catching the browns for this pick.
  22. Honestly.... I'm glad that they aren't airing all their dirty laundry anymore. We'll find out when everyone else does. As it should be.
  23. Tyrod, romo, foles, even kaepernick... is aj better than any of them? He's played a couple more games than jimmy g and didn't look as good. There are rookies that come with longer contract control. All 4 of the guys above come with additional control once they're signed
  24. Jamie Collins got a 3rd in the last year of his deal. And he was a pro bowler... not a back up who started 4 games. Qb or not that price seems high
