'Men of a Certain Age' premiers tonight...
rockpile replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I thought it was kind of depressing. I want to be entertained! If I want to be depressed, I will turn on the news, or watch the Bills. -
NYC police officer kills Times Square panhandler

Tourists. Most people who have not been there before, or do not go there often, are intimidated easily. That is how those Krishna's sold so many damn flowers. -
For everyone who asks "Is the game online?"

But they generally don't get involved unless they are nudged by a bribe, er, I mean a Lobby! -
Several times (but Guff was always there).

anyone trying to cut out the amount of pop/soda they drink?
rockpile replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
When going out to dinner, this single action can cut the bill in half. Nothing I hate more than paying $22-$24 for an $8 bottle of Yellow Tail! -
Point taken. He basically says "The main reason I'm touting Mike Martz for the head coach of the Buffalo Bills is his reputation as an offensive genius." He does not expand on that claim.

When questioned about why he did not devote MORE of his sports columns to the Buffalo Bills, Matthews pointed out that the Demagogue and Comical already had a couple staff writers devoted to the Bills (Sal Maiorana and until recently Scott Pitoniak come to mind), and a whole page of editorial copy on the team. His job was to cover a wider spectrum and he intentionally did not write a lot about the Bills unless he had something he wanted to say. I agree the choice of headlines was to grab readers, but who is to say that Matthews controls that part of the editorial content? Perhaps since the Bills are off today someone wanted draw readers. As far as his opinion about Martz is no worse than MANY other opinions offered to take over for the Bills.I do see your point. Depending on your POV, Martz is an offensive genius or a QB killer. For some reason, this is a movie you love or you hate. I cannot sit through it, and have tried several times.

Wow, he gets to do this and you pay him too? Whatever he gets, I will do it for 20% less. Your buddy, Rock

What Is Most Amazing To Me About This Game
rockpile replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This applies to both teams - which is why it was six point snoozer. Having a regular season home game on neutral ground does not help. Where was all that fire we saw last week!? I cannot support losing the rest of the games. I just can't..... Changes will come. I just hope they are the right ones this time. That would be unique. -
Anyplace to watch game on internet tonight?

Anyplace to watch game on internet tonight?

Do they still have friendly neighborhood bars? I know the NYCBBB has McFaddens (adult side) and Calico Jack's (PG) side by side. When I was a kid, there were neighborhood pubs. One side was the bar and the other (open doorway) was a restaurant. We even had neighborhood Christmas parties there (each kid got a gift). The owner was named Danny and he fit into the Santa Suit with no padding. As long as I was good, Dad would let us stay on the bar side for the game, which was pretty raucous! His buddies would buy us cherry "pop" and give us change for the shuffleboard bowling game. If we were "bad" we had to go on the restaurant side where most of the Mom's (and all the youngest kids) were having their time together. Of course these were also only DAY games. -
The blackout problem tonight is not a sellout issue. The issue is that only channel 7 in Buffalo and the NFL Network can show the game. The problem is that other NBC stations within the traditional Buffalo 75 mile blackout perimeter, do not have the option to pay the NFL to broadcast a "home" sellout. It is being blacked out by the NFL / NFL Network.

Sigh. I knew Ringo's son was the drummer after Kenny Jones. Officially, Zak is not a member of the Who. (and is also not dead) I mixed up celeb deaths - heart attack after a cocaine binge is correct. Kenny Jones played in Small Faces, whose guitarist left to join Humble Pie. Who will play the halftime show? (I can't explain)

A Few Thoughts About The Game

Hi, Harriet! -
Who is R. Rich? (ar, ar, ar!) Babyrock lost your phone number. She made it to the Pinto but was probably too late to catch any TBDers at Lot 1 Pole 5. Her friends had their own annual BBQ tailgate tradition going on, too! Tell Psycho HFB from the Rockpile.

Time Warner-NFL Network Bills-Jets Game
rockpile replied to cuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WHAM radio reported that the NFL Network gave BUFFALO local channels the option to pay to carry the game, but did not extend the "offer" to what is considered the Buffalo viewing area. So TV stations in Rochester, Syracuse, etc. were denied permission to carry the game! -
I will always hate the Miami Dolphins.
-
It sure sounded loud on TV! It was also probably the most FUN game to watch this year. Especially at the end, when instead of an RB off tackle stuffed, three-and-out, and a punt - they aired it out. Also, instead of sitting in a prevent defense, they were attacking. I mentioned in another post that the network stayed with the game after a couple Bills scores, and the SHOUT! celebration was loud and clear.

A Few Thoughts About The Game

2) With all of the little shrimps on the Bills, I am thinking that we should have someone with more speed returning kickoffs. Call me crazy. You are crazy. I agree with #2 AND I would add the Bills need someone to receive a punt. Roscoe is a maroon. I have to say I really enjoyed this game today! -
Didn't Fewell say he was starting Fitz over Edwardz because even if an audible did not work, Fitz was willing to act on a hunch, changing the play based on reading the defense? Isn't the QB calling an audible, based on reading the D at the line, preferable to using a time out so the coach can call another play?

The Who has two remaining members - Peter Townsend (lead guitar and author of most of their music) and Roger Daltrey (the most recognizable voice of the Who) I am not sure who plays bass or drums now. I saw them about 1973 right after they released "Who's Next" in front of 6,000 in Rochester and again at the Ralph about 1984, after they released "Who Are You" with an audience of 80,000. At that time Kenny Jones (formerly of Humble Pie) was the drummer. Keith Moon died of self inflicted drug and alcohol binges (1980 or so), and just a few years ago my favorite bassist John (Thunder Fingers) Entwhistle died of cancer. When all four original members were together and alive, NO ONE made better rock and roll. I hope I die before I get old. Age is relative.

The Day Buffalo Bills Football was Reborn?
rockpile replied to Cotton Fitzsimmons's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was happy the network let the crowd noise and SHOUT! song play after those 4th qtr scores. -
No matter what the record, beating MIA is sweet
rockpile replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree it was SWEET! This was one of the most satisfying Bills wins I have watched. Forget about draft position. Forget about whether Jauron would have punted or let Lindell kick a 56 yarder. Forget about whether or not this is the end of the "Edwards Era". Forget about all the inane speculations. Bask in the glow of a Bills win over the Fish! We do not get a lot of these moments.
