This is hard to understand. Teams have dramatically improved by changing one or two players in the area of need. For example, when we added Mount Washington to our DL, we became the #1 against rush (or something close)...When we lost Pat Williams, our run defense sucked!! As recently, when Mario Williams was on the line, our sack totals were big; without him not so much as teams are double-teaming Hughes.

+1. Beane has stated that if Allen wins in TC/PS then he will be the starter. However, he also stated that McAaron and Peterman are already ahead of the curve due to the off season program. So the pressure is on Allen to learn the play book the next three months to outshine during TC/PS. And I pray to god that the Bills don't hit the same issue as with Losman, when he was knocked out for the year with the broken leg..I think that severely reduced Losman's ability to learn through the first season.

The Steelers thought Rudolph was the best QB among the top six...I am sure their scouting abilities are far better!

This might be for the old timers who kept track of drafts (I did only after 1990)... We had four QBs go in the 83 draft with Kelly taken ahead of Marino. Considering the college resume of Miami. was there hair splitting in Buffalo at picking the wrong QB from Pennsylvania? In the end it did not matter as both Kelly and Marino had stellar careers where they took their teams to SuperBowls (albeit never won one) and enshrined themselves in the HOF.

Beane doesn't get to annoit a player's status. That is up to the HC.

I am not so sure...AJ has been on the bench for the last five years being part of NFL games...He has enough game-day experience to understand how to play in the NFL. I am sure he will get the nod over Allen unless Allen is lights out in TC or AJ is really so bad.

AJ's coaches have said multiple times that there is a "huge" fire burning under this guy and he is waiting for the opportunity. I don't think the Bills push Allen into the starting line up on day one. Their experience with Nate regards to that sure backfired on them. They will give the reins to AJ to start and see where they go and if he really sucks then they will put Allen in on a lost season.
