Bingo. The HC that the OP talks about all have franchise QBs and top talent defense. When you have such a team, then you can take more risks and hence more rewards!

If Allen beats Peterman and AJ for the starting position fair and square then I expect him to lead us to the playoffs.

Retirement of Cognito is a big loss. He was the key to several of Shady's runs. Between him and Wood, they paved the path for Shady. And we haven't had a NFL caliber Right Tackle for a long time. The OL is a mess and requires significant attention. I am not saying their replacements are incapable...but they are unproven.

I don't buy into it...Rosen hada 6-5 record and is probably as much a project (All College QBs entering NFL are projects) in the 1st year as Allen. Each of them do their own individual things well, but as a whole package have several flaws...Without proper experience and coaching in the NFL they will be eaten alive.

Fair enough to not yet judge Beane but on the performance of his first draft...even though you have aleady come to a judgement that he did "foolish" things...which we will have to wait and see. Sean has enough confidence in Beane's abilities; so he will get a pass for now until the results show up and that is tied with how McDermott plans to bring Allen along. Being "good on offense" is to be compared with the teams that are super on offense like a Green Bay, New Orleans, Atlanta, New England and Pittsburgh. WE definitely are not anywhere close to that level on offense, especially over the last 17 years. We have been good on defense, especially recently in the Schwartz years..but we did not have the continuity and we have fallen apart due to drafting for the scheme rather than finding the best players...and we are undoing that again and again in a cycle...Hopefully this is the final cycle before we can confidently says that we will be a 4-3 hybrid team for the next 10 years!!!!

Wouldn't the same questions be asked for any of the QBs that we would have picked....If we had picked Rosen, then the same questions apply...What has the "coaches" got to do with your skepticism of the Allen pick?
