The big question is if Murhpy's breakout 9-sack year was the product of PED use or not. Even if it was, they left themselves an out after one year with minimal future damage, which makes the contract reasonable.

So a "hit" at the QB position is weighed the same as a "hit" that's a kicker? You've put in a lot of work here but I'm afraid it means very little. Any analysis that ranks Russ Brandon over Bill Polian is likely flawed.

They beat the Jaguars and Browns by 3 points. If they lose those two games they get the 3rd pick. All that draft capital lost for two meaningless wins against the Jags and Browns. I'm not advocating a tank, I just found this amusing.

If you're Gettleman, you have be aware that this is probably the best chance you're going to get to draft a QB during your tenure. He's not going to get a better shot than this. If they're drafting top 5 again in 2020 he's probably out of a job, and Eli isn't exactly a spring chicken. Grooming a young QB under Manning is a pretty nice setup as well. He's in a very nice situation here.

I wouldn't say Beane got bushwacked, I'm saying the Jets didn't make a mistake (at least not yet). They have had a QB problem for years just like us, and as of today they are now in a better position to address it. They may very well whiff on QB, but the right move for them is taking a swing.

Beane was still working for Carolina when Mahomes was drafted.

Mistake? I doubt many here would be calling it a mistake if we moved up to #3. They sure did an incredible job of screwing us over for a mistake. Here's the triple whammy: 1) They eliminated a trade partner in the top 5 2) Set a ridiculous price for #2, if it's even available 3) Are bringing a top prospect at QB into the division

When you have a defense that can't get off the field, it's easy to rack up tackles. Are Preston Brown and Joe Schobert the best inside LB's in the game? Of course not.

How about instead of calling them comp picks, we call them what they really are - draft picks. Then maybe people will realize how stupid they sound when they say things like "Draft picks don't matter." That being said, the OP is likely correct about not getting any next year. We don't have many qualifying FAs leaving this year. Of course, setting up a system where we reap the benefits of addition picks every year takes time, it's not something that just materializes in a GM's first year. However, there have been moves made this offseason that indicate we will be a player at the table in the future.
