  1. I don't care either way if people read their religious text of choice on their "free time". If there is "free time" at school, then fine, go for it. But I have seen many neo conservatives throw fits when kids read religious texts that are not (insert preferred version of the Bible here), and to me that spits directly in the face of religious freedoms. There is no doubt that Christianity holds many advantages in this country.
  2. If you know people who are abusing the system, wouldn't it be prudent to report them to the proper authorities, so that the system can continue for those who need it?
  3. Considering I've gone on record multiple times here, supporting single payer OR universal healthcare, you're grasping at straws. I agree with many of your political view points, but do not agree with your tactics, extreme arguments, or trollish behavior.
  4. Considering the ACA is mostly just new regulations, increases were bound to happen. The only way insurance rates would go down would be if all the young/healthy people who aren't buying insurance, buy insurance. But even a mandate can't fix that, at least not without sufficient subsidies.
  5. I bet no one would have a problem with banning his religious texts if it was the Quran.
  6. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... as a progressive, I'm embarrassed that Gatorman is "representative" of "us" here. --- I'm still curious how people propose to lower healthcare costs in the US, along with getting everyone coverage, with a purely free market/capitalist approach.
  7. Yet he, and his team, wipe the floor with us every year. I'll start talking **** when we start playing football.
  8. Well, since we finish with a losing record every year, one could argue that *every* player we draft is a bust. But that'd be too easy.
  9. Any talks of major expansion of medicare/medicaid were rebuffed almost immediately, from what I remember. Single payer = Government insurance Universal healthcare = Government hospitals/doctors At least as far as I understand.
  10. I don't understand why this is a Liberal/Conservative thing? This is one guy having a real ****ty view of black people, being a very public representative of a sport that mostly employs young black men. I couldn't care less if this guy is a Liberal, or a Conservative, in the end he's just a piece of ****. That being said, hearing that he's fighting cancer, I don't wish that on anyone, even racists.
  11. If the people don't want a law in place, then their representatives should vote along those lines. It appears ACA is very unpopular, and as such it should be removed from law. That all being said, I still haven't seen it as being an overly negative or positive law. I like some of the regulations put in place. I think the mandate is a good intention, in that it should get everyone into the system... but the reality of a mandate (people can't afford health insurance) without a REALLY comprehensive subsidy program falls apart. To me, the real answer still continues to be either single payer, or universal healthcare. I hope if ACA gets over turned, certain parts of the law, specifically keeping "kids" on plans until 26, preventative care measures, and other regulations, stay in place.
  12. Jamming cell signals is bad for multiple reasons... Firstly it could mess with signals of emergency personnel. Secondly, it's very likely people would start fidgeting with their now signalless phone, when their Pandora, GPS maps, or whatever stop working. As much as this story is sort of funny, it's actually really dangerous when you think about the real consequences.
  13. I feel really sorry for the driver. Sure, the other guy died, but it was his own doing. Being forced into a situation where you kill someone? That sucks.
  14. On paper it certainly feels like we've had better drafts recently... But we used to finish 7-9 all the time, and now we finish 6-10 all the time...
  15. Anywhere in the bottom third makes sense.
  16. EJ wasn't a HoF QB and legendary leader his first season. Bust. Time to move on. Draft Tebow.
  17. Isn't this the last season we have CJ and Fred under contract? I wouldn't be surprised if we draft a RB this year to see how things shake out, simply because it's likely we'll lose one or both next year.
  18. I bet Mark Sanchez did it too, so EJ sucks.
  19. I haven't seen any trade up scenarios that'd land us a player that'd single handedly change the course of this franchise. Why? Because none of the QBs in this draft are guarantees, and honestly I can't say that any would be better than EJ's potential. Frankly, I'm hoping we trade back, pick up a bunch of depth players.
  20. I'd never "invest" in an NFL player. Way too many variables and risks.
  21. Small correction... Guardians of the Galaxy, releasing on August 1st, is part of Marvel's Cinematic Universe; sharing canon with the Avengers and Agents of SHIELD. While unlikely to have much crossover in this movie, plot lines in it are likely to lead to Avengers 3, when the storyline of Thanos and the Infinity Gems comes to a head. So I guess it depends on definition of "Avengers characters" since Avengers villains or related heroes might show up in the movie.
  22. I really hope VT doesn't screw the pooch. Also, I feel like a big part of government failures is how many for-profit hands are in the pot. We have a serious problem with lobbying, and related activities, in government, imo.
  23. Glad to see they met their quota of one token female and one token black guy.
  24. Why are people so quick to jump to extremes when discussing socialized programs? There's examples of socialized medicine and/or single payer systems that work well elsewhere, but when we discuss it here people either jump to "why not give everyone free tvs!" or "oh great, they'll ban drinking!" Have these things happened in other countries?
