I'm not re-writing history. Fletcher was better than the ILBs we've had since. Is he a world beater? No. But an improvement over what we replaced him with? IMO, yes. Combine that with solidifying the interior of our DL with Pat Williams... that might have improved our defense over the course of a few seasons. That was basically the original question, wasn't it?

There's a reasonable argument to be made that teams threw his way a lot less after his breakout year, hence the drop off in opportunities for him.

Get open deep, and hopefully our QB can actually hit one of them, to open up room in the short and mid range games for Johnson, Woods and Spiller. Dear god I hope Kolb or Manuel can actually hit someone down the field,heh.

Depends on if it was the scheme or the scheme and the players, last year that failed us. We made a number of small moves over the off season, but I'm not so sure they are improvements on paper. If our defense improves with the new scheme, he'll land a bigger/better job in no time flat.

I'd hope that Fitz dreams of being better than Kolb... O.o

I think Chan's belief, was that CJ doesn't work as well when the field is crowded (red zone, short yardage, etc). I don't have enough data to agree or disagree with that belief, myself. I can see why FJ would be thrown in, instead... but Choice... not so much. Will be interesting to see what Hackett does.

I'm really hoping that Williams shines in the role, either way. That way, in case Byrd does leave, we have a guy who can still play back there. And if Byrd doesn't leave, we have really good depth at the position!

Pat Williams and London Fletcher are basically the only two FAs we've lost that I think would have made a significant difference.

No, my employer does not care if I use an IBM computer, or a CISCO phone. Just like the 49ers shouldn't care if their players are humans and are football fans outside of playing for their team.

Basically how I feel. I'm keeping my expectations low, but I think between the two of these guys we'll get some sort of improvement (as long as the offensive system doesn't suck).

It's uncommon, sure. But really, the fans shouldn't care as long as he's out there on Sundays doing his job well, and he's not breaking any laws/harming anyone when not at work. I understand why it's weird... but I think people should be more objective about it. Let's say I'm a life long Bills fan, and I get drafted to the Raiders, do I stop being a Bills fan because I play on another team? Nah. Do I stop playing hard because I'm not on the Bills? Nah. I bet it's fairly common for players to root for other teams, but in private. So one guy gets caught in a hat, and people blow up about it? It just seems like a whole lot of something for a whole lot of nothing. Was it a bad choice, knowing how people react to these things? Possibly. But should he care? Probably not.

So Kolb sucks, and EJ is going to fail. Why do we even bother?
