  1. I don't see it as a weak move by McDermott. In fact, it's a good sign. I'm relieved that he didn't start Peterman out of some demonstration of will or "trust" in the process but instead, made a decision based on facts to win a football game. Fact: Peterman was terrible, regardless if he "fits" what "their" offense is looking for in a QB. Fact: Taylor was better, regardless if he doesn't "fit" what "their" offense is looking for in a QB. I don't fault anybody who wanted a QB change. At the time Peterman was a relative unknown quantity. Nobody knew for sure how he'd do starting a game against the opposition's A team talent. Now we know. No need to have another grenade go off in an enclosed space. I just wish he'd do the same for the problems that plague the OL - and make some changes there.
  2. I literally LOL'ed that a FB in the NFL is *not* a skill player and he shouldn't be able to catch passes. You could be the greatest defense attorney America has ever seen.
  3. Owners are paranoid because the success of the plan is not guaranteed by length of time nor commitment. It is often influenced by luck and random events they can't control. You can find a plan, sure. How do you know it's the right one? When do you know? The Belichick plan is awesome largely due to one random event and one lucky event. He's a good coach but let's be honest about what influences the plan there. The Marvin Lewis plan is not so awesome. Can't fault Mike Brown for sticking it out in Cincy. How many years would anybody give Chuck Pagano? Dirk Koetter?
  4. I have two fundamental problems with McDermott so far and both have nothing to do with actual football: 1. An unwavering, near religious belief in whatever the "Process" is - as if it can't be wrong, as if wisdom from experiences can't improve said "Process." When he said that the "process will not change" in yesterday's presser - was a red flag for me as a leader. It's too simplistic. 2. Talk of working hard but little talk of working smarter, wiser. Focusing on working hard in its isolation is the stonecutter approach - again, a near religious belief that hammering away at said stone will eventually get you to where you want to go and that the sum of effort is all that matters. To be successful, IMO, you need the effort plus the intelligence to gin positive results.
  5. What's the difference between McCoy and Dennison OL strategy?
  6. I agree 100%. There's little doubt in my mind you have whole units in rebellion against their unit coaches up to the coordinators. I don't think guys like Hughes and Incognito are cancers but I see them as the disgruntled employee that can easily rub off on other young players. I think the offensive line in particular hates the scheme they've been told to use. One, you're obviously not opening up holes for McCoy or protecting the QB like you used to be able to do, but secondly, that also impacts your personal goals, bonuses, etc. Same goes for the defensive line. A guy like Hughes has a long memory - he wants to be the Jim Schwartz Jerry Hughes with sacks, not the Jerry Hughes, the defensive end doing the dirty work with less sacks. That guy doesn't make Pro Bowls and earn bonuses. I think guys like Wood and Williams have been around so long that the endless coaching changes, endless losing just beats you to the point where you get the "whatever, it's a paycheck" mentality and you've got little energy at this point to correct the above. It's the only reason I can come up with why this team has collapsed as it has.
  7. Frazier first. I think there are units in complete revolt against their unit coaches and it shows.
  8. This team is poorly coached. Poor strategy, tactics, everything. I'd start there.
  9. I'd agree. Not sure what happened between the Raiders/Jets game, but something certainly has happened with this team.
  10. Perhaps a hot take but StubHub is the wave of the NFL's future. Half empty 65,000 seat stadium vs. filled 30,000 stadium. Presentation is 90% of the sale.
  11. I think Tyrod gets the first half of the SD game. There's no excuses there. Full arsenal of weapons. If it's a tire fire yet again, I think there's a chance he's benched and Peterman gets a half to show what he can do. Buffalo has to be desperate to make the playoffs and willing to make bold moves to do it. It's going to crush the McDermott/Beane era starting off with so much promise and falling flat on your face in Year One.
  12. Remember, the same coach likes the "run Mike Tolbert up the middle for a cloud of dust" play that makes even less sense.
  13. I think he's doing what he's told 8 out of the 10 times. The other two times he deviates out of necessity. TT hasn't struck me as a freelancer. Ever. There's next to no audibles at the line, and unless he's flushed from the pocket, he follows the script. Remember, you've got guys preaching "process" and conformity all over the place under McDermott.
  14. I'll support the trade no matter what MD does for the remainder of his career. His motivation to work is temporary.
  15. Once again, the Bills coaching staff has no idea how to adjust to an opponent who has game film on them. How many times have we said this over the years about the Bills approach to games by their coordinators? Taylor deserves blame but I put the majority of it on McDermott and Dennison for not being aware that teams were going to catch up to the tactics sooner rather than later. It’s like they don’t start out with the premise “Ok, Tyrod has to be in the pocket. What can we do to make him successful?” as the Monday Morning question on the whiteboard. Frazier's should be "why can't we sack anybody?"
  16. I think the offense has lost faith in Dennison and his reluctance to deviate from the "his" blocking scheme no matter how ineffective it is. Same old, same old.
  17. Dennison and Frazier have been found out. Can't keep doing the same thing week in and week out. The reason the first drive sorta went well was because it wasn't part of the script every teams had a chance to watch tape on. It's lazy and stubborn. A bad combo.
  18. There's too much of it on TV and its had a decline in quality. There are many parallels between the fate of the Simpsons TV show and the NFL when you think about it. The longer it's around the less people care about it, and ultimately it becomes a shadow of its former self, just hanging on for hanging on's sake.
  19. I surmise that BB will retire because he no longer has control over his roster post Brady power play. Who knows - maybe he doesn't think a 41 year old QB in 2018 is a great idea either.
  20. IMO there was no quit. However, that team looked tired and out of rhythm from snap one. I'm sure a lot of us have played sports at some point in our lives. You know you have games where you and half the team isn't feeling it.
  21. We will know more in the first half of the Saints game. In years past, a beat down in one game had a hangover that spanned several. If this year is THE year, the New Orleans game is going to tell you a whole lot.
  22. That's surprising considering some of the All-Time threads. I'm surprised the month Mario Williams signed wouldn't beat out September 2017.
  23. Another vote for Vance Joseph. Elway isn't going to tolerate shellackings like that, even if he's a rookie head coach. I actually think Hue Jackson will stay in Cleveland. It's the FO that will be fired. My dark horse candidate for firing/resignation etc. is Jack Del Rio.
  24. Coaching is a young man's game today. There's little reason to hire a retread who's been fired from two head coaching jobs. Hell, the Rams have a head coach barely in his 30s.
