What will you do when the Bills win the Super Bowl?

We are awful at evaluating WR talent. We constantly pass on late round steals. Justin Shorter is not an NFL WR he just looks like one. Feel like Beane is like welp he kind of looks big and strong like Metcalf maybe he’s the same thing lol…just take really good WRs bro

Please merge if there is a topic already. First off, I’m a big Brandon Beane supporter, I went into watching his presser for the first time today thinking I’m excited to hear what Brandon Beane has to say about what his plan is and to get some truth on what he was disappointed with this year. I came away, thinking man he really took a defeatist attitude into next year, preparing fans for a year of the same or worse. I wanted to hear we have the best player on the planet quarterbacking our team so we’re gonna do everything in our power to get him what he needs so that we can win a Super Bowl next year because that is always the goal when Josh is our quarterback. I did not hear that. It wasn’t the Brandon Beane I normally appreciate. It was deflating and didn’t make me confident in him or McD for this offseason or next year. He doesn’t have to tell us his specific plan because he’s a good poker player but at least have that passion and that optimism to say we’re gonna win a Super Bowl sooner than later because we still have Josh Allen as our quarterback and my job as GM is going to be to give him everything he needs. That being said a couple nuggets I did like are as followed: - He seems to want to keep AJ epenesa but knows he’ll be expensive - Shakir will be a big part of the offense next year - He wants speed and started the process by picking up a futures contract with KJ Hamler - I do NOT like how Beane has a tendency to build up players who underperformed (Diggs, Knox, McD lol) and undersell players who played awesome (Josh and Kincaid) - He got me pumped with the idea of Bernard and Milano and the rise of Williams in year 2 - I don’t think we’re hurting as bad on defense as people think with the depth at LB and CB - I like that Sean and Brandon report to Pegula separately but Beane needs to sack up and tell the truth (hopefully he is) Overall, I trust Beane enough to know he’s putting in the work. I know he sees that the key to “not be sitting here this time of year” next season is getting more help for Josh. Just hope McD sees it the same way and isn’t needling Beane for more defensive toys early in the draft
-
I agree with most of what you said but this isn’t the guy. He drops A LOT of balls the same way Diggs did. Great he gets force fed the ball in an offense that has more dynamic weapons than we have but they also lost the same week of the playoffs after their QB played a helluva game. Don’t buy into to the stats in this one. Let Mike Evans get paid by some other team and let’s get our guys in this loaded WR draft class. Bucs will also be just fine or even better with Godwin, Palmer and whomever they draft this year.

Greg Cosell - “I don’t think they have a number 1 WR”
NeverOutNick replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
If I’m being perfectly honest I don’t think any free agent WR is going to be worth the contract they are looking for. I also don’t see any of them as guys we need. They are mostly big possession WRs that can’t get separation and drop a lot of passes. Yes, Higgins, Ridley, Pittman, Evans make the incredible play but it comes in tight coverage and after they dropped an easy pass earlier in the game (maybe a little unfair but basically true). Ridley may be the best bargain because unlike the others I do think he can get some separation with his route running but it’s not consistent enough. All this to be said, I wouldn’t invest money in the free agent class. Like Greg Cosell said we need to get our #1 WR first round and then later in the draft get a guy who can stretch the field (I’d also be ok with Hollywood brown if he was cheap but he’s always hurt and I have a feeling will cost too much). Another approach would be to find players on the last year or 2 of their contract that teams are trying to unload cheap. I’ve said it before but Courtland Sutton is developing into a true #1 and I’d be ecstatic if we could get him on the cheap from Denver. But at the end of the day I’d be fine going 3 WRs in this loaded draft class (take a page out of GBs recent book) and fill other needs in free agency so that Josh has guys he can work with for years to come -
Am I the only one not planning on watching Chiefs/Ravens??

I’m watching to ensure the empire goes down in a blaze of fire 🔥 -
I don’t trust McD in most areas but I will give him his deserved credit when it comes to evaluating (maybe that’s more Beane) and developing secondary talent. They hit the jackpot before with Hyde and Poyer and I am sure there are guys in free agency that fit this mold even now (I’ll dig in more this coming month). That all being said I don’t believe we need to invest early draft capital for the position because 1) there are way more pressing needs aka help Josh out (WR!!) and 2) the track record of finding talent later or cheaper options in free agency is proven (Benford, D Jackson, free agent finds Poyer, Hyde) Right now without digging deep in the draft yet I know one guy I’ve talked earlier about is CJ Gardner Johnson. He’s exactly the kind of guy Beane snags. Hes going to be cheaper than he’s actually worth because of his injury this year, he’s young and he can play multiple roles on D. Would I love Antoine Winfield Jr? Heck yes! I was clamoring for him to be our pick when he came out in the draft but he’s going to be way too expensive now. This is a loaded draft class. Hopefully Beane and his team get a couple more picks in the mid rounds and hit on some future greats for us but no way I spend a top pick on safety or really any defensive player when at the end of the day, game on the line it will be Josh and his O taking us further in the playoffs. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2024-nfl-free-agency-rankings-safeties

Greg Cosell - “I don’t think they have a number 1 WR”

Cosell is 100% correct -
Jason Vrable should be interviewed for our OC position
NeverOutNick replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lafleur deserves all the credit but doesn’t mean his passing game coordinator isn’t sponging off that success. Guy could be a diamond in the rough. He’s proven to get the most out of every position he’s had thus far and GBs passing attack for how young they were was very impressive. Just watch any highlight reel of the big plays GB gets. Those WRs get huge separation -
First off I actually really like Joe Brady and think a full offseason could make him a special OC but I’m ok looking around elsewhere. I know everyone has seen how well Jordan Love and his WRs have progressed as the season has went on. The biggest thing I see when I watch the Packers is just how wide-open their wide receivers get and it doesn’t even matter who the opponent is. They are schemed so well. It got me thinking how great Matt Lefluer is. We obviously can’t get Lafleur so I went and looked at the staff and the guy that we should definitely consider interviewing for offensive coordinator is a guy that used to be in our building and coaching our RBs, Jason Vrable. He is the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. He’s only 39 years old and if we’re not staying with Brady, we need to check this guy out. Check out his bio. Seems like a great fit and if he can do what he did in GB bring it on https://www.packers.com/team/coaches-roster/jason-vrable
-
And scheming receivers open. Enough of Josh having to make the perfect throw. How are more than half of Love’s throw to wide open options but we hardly ever get so “lucky”. It’s either because our WRs can’t get any separation or we have play callers who can’t scheme our weapons open. I think it’s a mix of both. But I do like Brady, just think he needs to really get creative this offseason and the bills better go heavy on WRs. Screw McDs defense it’ll be the same regardless if we have great or average defenders come playoff time
-
Honestly, I thought for the position Brady was put in, he did a heckuva job. If we have to keep McDermott, I’m actually OK keeping Brady. I think, giving him a full off-season and some better weapons he would do some good things. I never felt like the offense was stale With his playcalling. Would I take a Matt Lafleur instead? Yes for sure but I think we could do a lot worse than Brady. I can’t say the same thing about our head coach.
-
Shorter is not an NFL WR imo. He body catches and isn’t a good route runner. Hopefully he proves me wrong but I 100% don’t go into this offseason thinking he’s contributing anything more than special teams. Grab a top WR in this loaded class and also Get some good WR evaluators in the building and find those Shakirs and Nakua types on day 2 and 3. Got to give Josh more. Right now we have a bunch of guys who can’t separate and even though I like Brady, he’s not scheming our receivers open like Lafleur does for Love

Is it the drafting or the player development?
NeverOutNick replied to Low Positive's topic in The Stadium Wall
Looks like I hit on a lot of this from last year although I was semi wrong on cook. He needs a Batman to his robin but he’s very good. Still wish we got Flores as the DC though -
CJ Gardner Johnson is the answer if we can’t hit on one after the 2nd round. I HOPE we don’t take a safety in the first couple rounds because that’s just spinning the wheels as always of not really helping the only part of our team that gets us to a SB out. CJ is young, he’s going to be relatively cheap after this injured season and he’s very good with room to grow. He fits the mold of bargain with big upside that Beane usually goes for. I’d love grabbing him as I think he still could be star in this league. Let’s save the early round picks for WR and OT so we can keep our dreams of winning a Super Bowl alive. There is no Kyle Hamilton in this draft and even if there was I’m still going WR with how epic the talent there is at the top

Who are your top 10 QBs in the league

All three of them could. If you watch him during the playoffs, you know it’s not him making the mistakes holding us back -
Who are your top 10 QBs in the league
NeverOutNick replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
If I’m talking just QB not the team or coach and a guy would start a franchise with today, this would be my list: Tier 1 dealers choice all time greats 1a. Josh Allen 1b. Joe Burrow 1c. Patrick Mahomes Tier 2 - your going to the playoffs almost every year 4. CJ Stroud 5. Lamar Jackson Tier 3 - unlimited potential but still make so many mistakes 6. Justin Herbert 7. Trevor Lawrence Tier 4 - you can win with a good team around these guys 8. Jared Goff 9. Jalen Hurts 10. Dak Prescott Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers are top 5 guys but they’re old and injury prone now. They don’t make the list of starting a franchise Jordan Love I need to see a full season. Great end of year but is it Lafleur scheming wide open targets? Guys like Purdy and Tua are great effecient quick thinking QBs but where is my franchise going to be? Do I want them out in the elements in Chicago or Buffalo Also, I’m not going to lie, I did consider Baker Mayfield in the top 10. He just has to show he can do what he did this year again since his first few years were not the best -

The crowd that wants to apply this to marriage are completely off the horizon. This is in fact NOT a marriage. No one told McD we’re committing to you until death do us part BUT for some reason he is getting that kind of treatment. This is a BUSINESS first and for most. In any business the owner and CEO should be making the best decision to maximize profit. Our biggest profiting sales item is Josh Allen so EVERYTHING should be geared toward making that item flourish. If the manager running the Josh Allen side of the business isn’t getting the most out of the product, it’s fully in the rights of the company to look at better alternatives while keeping the manager in place or firing him if they deem it necessary. To keep this analogy going, we have monopolized this market with a rare product (Josh Allen) no one else can ever get. We have a guy (McD) overseeing how this product gets used who stumbled into the position by happens stance and hasn’t taken the time to research how to best use the product himself. He also doesn’t have the skill set or vision to take this product as far as it can go. Why wouldn’t the company try and look elsewhere to get the best visionary for this once in a lifetime job opportunity? -

Bingo! And honestly teams can do whatever they want. The cubs just did this same situation with David Ross when they dismissed him for Craig Counsel as their manager. I’d just fire him straight up but at least this gives the warm and fuzzies to him for his years of service and ultimately lets him make the decision if he wants to fall on his own sword before being put out of his misery. -
https://www.golongtd.com/p/the-buffalo-bills-have-a-decision Tyler Dunne is spot on. Great article I don’t understand how at the very least we couldn’t have told Sean McDermott hey we’re going to explore other options at head coach in the next few weeks. We are not firing you unless we find someone we think will maximize Josh Allens talents and get us to a Super Bowl more than you can. It’s an off-season that has Hall of Fame coaches just sitting there for the taking. Why not at least check it out. What’s the worst that happens if we do that? McD gets pissy and resigns. Well thank God for that.
