  1. However, this game could be the difference between the 4th and 9th pick in the draft, and if you don’t catch that in real time.... well... how do you even call yourself a fan.
  2. Nothing wrong, really. I think the sentiment you are getting is similar to if you came to us looking for where to get some wings on your Mexican vacation. If you are so addicted you can’t live without them, you do you... but to go out of your way to spend a chunk of your day listening to a 1-3 team that’s had its doors blown off 3 times instead of making the most of your opportunity to do something special seems silly to most. You’ll only get so much listening to the game that you can’t get from checking the box score and reading a few threads here once you are back home.
  3. I know I know, you let your wishes be known but this isn’t a great team in an important matchup. Don’t pass on vacation to watch.
  4. Which, again, is not a huge accomplishment and if they gutted the roster in a way no other regime did and then mess it up... could be the worst. Or they nail it and are the best. Verdicts out still but it’s not crazy to say it’s possible
  5. My line of the thought is that if you are in a dysfunctional situation long term, you are likely part of the dysfunction too, right? in Whaley’s case- he was in the organization long term so when he was promoted I see 3 takes: 1) he thought it was ok, which isn’t ok. 2) he thought it was not ok and thought he could effect change to secure control over very basic job duties and failed- which he has some ownership over. 3) he thought it was improper but didn’t try to change it- obviously also bad from an executive leader. at some level, part of his job is being able to maintain the power and leadership to effectively manage the team, and for whatever reasons he could not accomplish that.
  6. It was a weird power structure. Whaley carries some blame though. That said, given that he wasn’t selecting coaches he sure as hell stocked a lot of talent on the 53 for the number of scheme switches he dealt with.
  7. Flip side- better believe in them after 2 years to give them such an important offseason. Can’t be a total write off year this year, though pains are obviously expected
  8. Nothing about his departure indicated to me that he’d be eager to return for a demotion
  9. The worst part is we knew them both well before acquiring and it’s been distractions and questionable effort
  10. I think because we don’t have a great point of reference, it’s hard to grasp how terrible it is. for instance, 28 players have 14 or more receiving first downs right now
  11. A solid corner with a 2 year 1.8m contract is legit the type of things dreams should be made of for an nfl team. Instead, we almost paid Gaines/vontae a combined 2 year 6.8m toss that $5m at a line upgrade, and the dareus/Starr savings at a WR (which also would’ve avoided the Coleman dead money) the ripples are always interesting to contemplate
  12. Heck, Sammy would still be in his option year, just like benjamin. So a little more there as Sammy was top 10 in the draft, but dareus instead of starr would’ve saved substantially. We would have more cap space I believe, without a formal double check. Don’t make the Sammy trade, and you likely don’t do the Darby trade - which again gives us a better player and cheap. Wed be down a 2nd round pick overall but have more cap and more talent. Could use a different pick for the allen trade and spend the cap space on a good vet to replace the missing draft pick (or have picked mahomes) I accept there are differing opinions on some of these guys but this narrative floating around that there was absolutely no option for beane to run a different course irks me. Bright side: I think we might’ve given him a big free agent deal if we didn’t trade for him. He easily could’ve been a FA target next year but I think we let him walk now
  13. Right, I get that but if we dump the savings straight into the cheaper option- suddenly the cap hit is the same as keeping dareus and frankly even if he’s a pain to manage he’s better than the $3m guy even on his worst days and comes with upside. we decided rather than managing the situation, to simultaneously shed talent and increase spending. Dareus better have been openly mocking coaches in meetings for that to be the answer.
  14. And frankly even if paying dareus like a pass rusher but he’s underperforming and he’s heavy and just a run stuffer... the dead money plus star is a fortune compared to just keeping an underachiever who is still ok, just not special
  15. I suspect anyone that believes they are getting it wrong cares.
  16. The problem is the injury free loves to play football and is more talented guy is the most expensive player. We all have a salary cap. So either you take risks on personality, on injury or roll with a less talented player. There’s a balance to be had and talent has to be weighted most heavily. Nailed it. The rest all matters but talent is by far the biggest.
  17. Unless his culture is “we put great players in a position to succeed” it’s a terrible quote. God awful.
  18. I’ll sign up for that likely lucrative pay check. You are passing?
  19. It’s an exhausting quality of the board lately. either “Whaley’s fault” or “but playoffs” from a relatively large cross section of posters on darn near anything that’s not glowingly positive
  20. So you are more into extending the life time contract with no pay cuts to Tyrod?
  21. It’s not that loyalty is a bad quality. It’s that I’m pretty sure you bashed one of the most kind hearted and compassionate guys on the board for being cold because he believes in compassion over blind loyalty. You consistently let your desire to argue impede reasonable discussion
  22. I imagine thats about as asinine a reply as you could have come up with
  23. Can you believe beane made him kill a guy?!?
  24. I think hoping the playoffs will be an option is a bit optimistic but of course it’s an oddly shaped ball and you never know how it’ll bounce
  25. After all the times you’ve went down with sinking ships you’d think you’d at least have the courtesy to be a tiny bit polite about disagreements.
