  1. you don’t get all the way to “and now he should have to publicly address it today” with all that though. likely because that’s a jump and reasonable to say it’s not something he needs to do
  2. As is, and in our current world, I may agree that it’s a red flag though again I think Rex was a special kind of case. but if we set aside the current model and had a pool deep enough with enough experience to have practically co-coordinator with an offensive coordinator that manages the unit/staff and offensive play caller that focuses on the playbook and film, and the quality control coaches had a few more established experienced guys mixed in… well, maybe that offensive minded head coach is working 12 hour days instead of 20 hours? Or kick them out after so many hours during the mid week? I know we glamorize the commitment but it’s pretty ridiculous and has real world consequences for these guys and their families.
  3. In glasses half full, you saved some hearing miraculously
  4. Though let’s not pretend he was the model of accountability regardless of the number
  5. bigger staffs create deeper talent pools and more guys getting developed. More experts in the pipeline, and less tasks for a HC to need to be the expert. More coordinator level talent, etc… the pipeline into football coaching is a tough life. Better staff rooms and it’s less grueling at all ranks. Setting the expectation from day 1 that you are worked like a dog for no pay creates a culture where these guys have to be there 24/7
  6. The nfl and owners in general should be paying mid and low level coaches more and paying to have more on staff developing. The expectation on coaching hours is unreasonable
  7. yea, if we’ve made it through the last couple years - ain’t nobody starting a civil war for 19 year old gun ownership
  8. don’t worry - we all change and evolve over years and decades. Odds are there are a variety of new scum baggy things you do! that said, the minimization of drunk driving to avoid self introspection is definitely something that I hope changes. “Everybody was doing it” sure should be replaced by “I really messed up and made regrettable decisions” for a lot of folks.
  9. the kid was brought in on a mental evaluation hold a year prior. how can anyone close to him describe being shocked that he did the thing that spurred that? we see “he was a good boy” and “I am shocked” across all lines and backgrounds. To publicly say otherwise for many close to these horrific criminals is akin to saying “I failed those people by not speaking up sooner” and it just doesn’t happen often.
  10. sure it matters. It’s not a bright line that can’t be crossed and no other factor matters but IQ sure does correlate to being susceptible to this kind of stuff, and it also correlated to having a rather poor plan. Don’t worry, I’m sure you are already on all kinds of strange watchlists for the government. What’s one more?
  11. we have josh Allen. This teams a contender for the next decade. that we were terrible for 20 years doesn’t mean you should play scared of being great because of the risk of missing. that said, it would take something practically unheard of to hit that point this year. A couple big losses in the vein of 13 seconds where the coaches clearly mess up I guess?
  12. yea, I don’t think we know enough day to day… but there have been a few indications he likes to drink/party.
  13. It’s a great gig and has value… but I wouldn’t truly celebrate him as an entrenched starter in this league either. You’d think he’d want to keep a little quieter though, as he doesn’t have much of a hold on any future jobs and not worth a headache for a guy like that. those pesky stunts just make it so hard to hit the defender! If the guy would just slow down he’d really hit him in the mouth.
  14. from the post you quoted- I think a statement like “the shooters family said he was a normal kid” need to be taken with a bit of a grain of salt too. you just rarely see someone say “in hindsight we messed up not taking it more seriously when the red flags got so extreme that he was taken in for a psych evaluation and we still acted like nothing was amiss” Additionally, being released from being held against his will doesn’t mean nothing was wrong. “mentally ill” is such a big umbrella that it’s not a productive label, but people that are well don’t do this. I don’t know his challenges but he certainly was unwell and that doesn’t take away from his responsibility or label others.
  15. he is penciled in the keep a seat warm til they can replace him he has the benefit over other mediocre options in the interim because he knows the system and can make the line calls.
  16. you mean mongo might not offer phd level insights?
  17. I pulled my hazy memory of league minimum pay and made the point that getting from 51 to 53 won’t be $5M. Good job saying it’s correct, but with extra detail. I did not think it mattered toooo terribly much to be exact as someone in the top 51 likely hits the road during cuts too so it’s not a particularly hard line number anyway. Going to 53 will definitely very slightly increase our spend, but also potentially have associated offsets.
  18. which is 53 and players 52 and 53 will be, what, 660k each?
  19. I wonder how much the game in Buffalo impacted Mac Jones yards per game on the road last year. was that not being able to play on the road, or catastrophic weather?
  20. I think the OP should be obligated to bring us stats normalized by temperature, precipitation and crowning. that said, I’d guess that in these small samples it’s less about location and more about other variables.
  21. right so he’s getting a full paycheck this year even if suspended. Only 1m at risk for him.
  22. i think perhaps worth the reminder that this isn’t an abstract thread- this is a Buffalo message board and members of this board both participating and reading may be more impacted than you think.
