Yeah we went thru this when McDermott was hired. I don't necessarily see McNair as more incompetent than the Pegula's were..........they hired the Rex show.........they hid behind the curtain and sent Whaley out to explain why Rex got fired when it was Pegula who fired Rex after a disrespectful controntation by Ryan. They proclaimed Whaley the GM and let him spearhead the HC search........and then totally pulled the rug out from under him and canned him for the HC's buddy from the prior gig. Would you trust, and therefore work for, Terry Pegula? Like I said.......lotta' pot calling kettle black around here. Point is........perspectives change fast. The Texans are in a f*cked spot. Of their own doing, but we are familiar with this kind of thing. After what O'Brien did they are going to be an unattractive place to play for the next year or so.

The Director of Football Operations job is not a scouting job it's more like being the personal/executive assistant of the GM. In that broad, mult-tasking role they get a good overview of the entire organization.....and how to run it.......but they aren't involved in personnel decisions......unless the GM wants to rub his personnel department in a very wrong direction. My understanding is that Easterby served a similar role in NE and Belichick delegated a ton of authority to him..........to the point where if anyone wanted anything they came to Easterby first, which raised eyebrows because BB is a known micro-manager. He left NE looking to get a higher position in another organization. And he had choices. I have no idea what a VP of DoFO is when you already have a DoFO.........but this isn't a crazy turn of events. Brandon Beane was nothing more than a DoFO until 2015! He had only had 2 seasons of partial involvement in scouting before he became the GM of the Buffalo Bills. Are you appalled by that? I know I wasn't thrilled to be getting a guy who had so little experience in scouting players............but that's why the Bills have wisely surrounded the green-Beane with people who have..........and he was a huge upgrade over Whaley in the "executive" portion of the job, which is something the Pegula's really needed. There are a lot of jumping to conclusions and taking the side of naturally disgruntled, 4-12 football team players here.............but what's funny was when McD came in with his "process" and different way of doing things and then basically decided he had to gut the team of all its prime young talent because he didn't want to have to win over skeptical young players who had contract leverage......people were nodding in agreement. And that was a team that could have finished .500. The Texans are coming off of a 4-12 season. Lotta' pot calling kettle black around here.

My position hasn't changed. Do you know who holds that position in Buffalo? Don't bother looking it up the answer is nobody. But the guy is not some totally unqualified rube off the street. He had authority in the respected Patriots organization and now he's aligned himself with Caserio. Serious question........if Brandon Beane were to resign and Kim Pegula made herself the GM would you think Josh Allen then had a right to demand a trade? Of course not.

Meh, the Bills once made a totally unqualified marketing guy the actual GM of the football team. To the astonishment of many............the Bills current owner made herself the president of both the NHL and NFL teams. Neither situation looked wise AT ALL. But as a fan I'm much more comfortable with someone with no experience or professional qualifications for said job in an off-field position than one that is supposed to be scouting and assembling the on-field talent. Caserio was a legit NFL GM candidate for the past couple seasons.

I still like to get a volume of picks later so don't love trade-ups but if you can trade back or for a star player with that pick it makes sense. 50% of your #1 picks are likely to be gone after contract #1 so getting a sure multi-year difference maker at an important position is usually very worth it if drafting in the back half of the round.

PSA: Use your high picks on big $ positions. Needs change fast. The Chiefs will be regretting using that 1st pick in 2020 on Clyde Edwards Helaire............and he was every bit the prospect of Harris and Etienne. Running backs are still a relative dime-a-dozen. The Bills will be needing to keep Josh Allen interested in their program for the next decade and the best way to do that is keeping those key positions stocked with difference makers. You can draft RB's and OG's and off-ball LB's much later and develop them or buy them free agency without breaking the bank.

The team is obligated to pay him the guaranteed portion of his contract.........so yes his contract matters and will be honored. They aren't demanding that they don't have to pay him anymore........though they are free to not want to pay him anymore.

You jumped into the thread late.........we already covered the difference between wanting and deserving. They are free to want. Josh Allen was free to want to be drafted by his hometown 49ers. That's not the way it works though. Collective bargaining and contracts(like the one that Watson signed guaranteeing him $110M) limit the freedom of players to the benefit of the league as a whole.........and therefore the pockets of the players because they share revenue at a near 50/50 split with ownership.

Because he's a reclamation project with a superstar contract..........he's a burden for the Eagles.........moving him makes sense for the organization if they can swing it. Watson and Wilson are superstar QB's who actually elevate their teams greatly.

Big difference between QB's well into their 30's like Wilson and Stafford wanting to change teams and one who is still in the window of his rookie contract. If all parties played until age 40 you are talking about 15 years worth of value versus 7. I know you follow baseball so basically this is the equivalent of trading your superstar young player with 6 years of team control versus trading the 30 year old with a lot of mileage on him. You are right........it's not coming though........it's here. Watching Tom Brady hand pick his destination to the most talented roster he could find will only embolden older vet QB's whose contracts are now limiting their own teams ability to build around them....... like Wilson. The NFL will have to figure it out........a continued string of good QB classes would be the easiest solution..........rules changes would be another........... but it is beyond bad precedent for Houston to let a young QB force his way out.

No, he did not. He simply said that he had texted with Watson and that Watson wasn't happy with him and essentially that he "apologized if he offended him". That's it. He never said he broke a promise to Watson. Which sounds a lot like Watson was a bit delusional in thinking that he was going to be allowed to pick the teams next GM.

Closed the gap? The Mahomes trade CREATED the gap. Prior to Mahomes stepping on the field these were two pretty evenly matched rosters........which made it frustrating that the Bills kept blowing games they had in control to the Chiefs under Marrone and Rex. McD beat them in KC in 2017.........but once Mahomes stepped on the field in 2018 they went into another area code.

So Watson's agent told a bunch of mouthpieces that he wanted to shill for him that Watson would be "consulted" before the guys were hired? What exactly does "consult" mean in the context? Input? Veto? How do you know he wasn't "consulted" on Caserio or that his opinion was just taken into account and overruled leading to a feeling that he was lied to? And like you said, there is no reason for Watson to be involved in the GM choice, what would he know about THAT job other than maybe wanting hire his own agent as the GM.......which is something that has happened recently in MLB. And Watson submitted his trade demand long before Culley was hired so your timeline is off by weeks in that regard. Like I said there are a lot of ways and reasons that this is just BS spread by Watson's agent. I'm not sure how closely you follow US sports other than football but this is pretty much standard agent work in MLB and the NBA to try to get a player to more immediately greener pastures.

C'mon man...........you have no idea what, if anything, was actually promised. Sometimes promises are subjective.........like the difference between allowing input and allowing someone to make the decision. But saying someone broke a secret promise is also good way, NBA superstarry way to steer a narrative so that you don't look like you are just trying to get to greener pastures too..........so there is that possibility you don't appear to be considering either.
