This is a savings on 2024's contract, according to Spotrac the Jets are sitting at 13.3 million in cap space with Rodgers cap number at 8.8 million. Next year Rodgers cap hit which was slated to be something crazy like 75-100 million now comes down to a high but manageable 45.1 million. This is good news for the Jets longer term as it maybe gives them a shot to run it back with Rodgers once more, but the impact on this years cap is not there. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/cap/

I had liked Hines to contribute as a returner and as a pass catcher. Just sad to see him lose his season and likely his career (he likely will get a chance to catch on a roster in 2024 but I just don't see him making it coming off of this type of injury) due to an off-season activity days before the season starts. Won't be a huge on-field loss but I just feel sad for him on a human level.

Not sure he is worth that money but certainly would have gotten a good deal on the market. Seems like paying elite money for a good not great player.

Playoffs, 4th and 8, game is on the line (personel hypothetical).

Hard to say, you usually base those things how the game is flowing so hard to make that call but you can't go wrong with Diggs. -
Mahomes, Josh, Burrow and maybe Rodgers if you go on reputation and thinking last years down year was due to supporting cast are players I can firmly put over Hurts. I cannot put Herbert, Lawrence, Lamar or any other QB ahead of Hurts at this moment

Makes sense, he had a mid-season ACL tear, going to at least need a bit more time to recover. I think that's why the Jets were always linked to Dalvin Cook once he was made available and subsequently cut. If I were running the Jets I would take a run at Cook, you don't have a long window with Rodgers (at most 2-3 seasons) so you have to make "win now" moves to try and take advantage of that.

I thought Beasley looked like he had something left in the tank after his brief run with the team last year. Maybe he isn't going to be the slot machine he once was but as competition for your WR 5/6 slot you could do worse. It also may help the Giants to have a vet WR mentor some of their younger WR's. Not sure if Beasley will make their final roster they have Paris Campbell, Hodgins, 2022 second-round pick Wan'Dale Robinson and a 2023 3rd round pick in Jalin Hyatt who are likely "locks" to make the roster. Then on the bubble you have Crowder and Sterling Sheppard both of whom are a bit younger than Beasley and both of whom will be competing for roster spots as well as some other younger lesser-known players also competing to take a spot at WR 5/6. Adding Beasley in there certainly gives them some options but likely Beasley is competing with Crowder and Sterling Sheppard for one spot. Still glad to see that Beasley is getting a chance and likely will either get offered a spot on the PS if he does decently or will be at the top of the list for an injury signing in season if he shows that he still has something in camp/pre-season.

This ends with the Cowboys doing something very minor to just make Martin happy and "show him some love" then address it longer term in the offseason. But Martin is also going to 33 this season and the Cowboys have Martin on a great deal next season. Tricky situation but I think Martin knows this is his last chance to get a big money deal and he has to try and take advantage of it.

It’s a football forum and a football topic about one position group not getting a chance to obtain value from their efforts. Not really sure what else I should be discussing?

It's a market that these RB's just are outright refusing to participate in because the rules that are already not in their favor (4-5 year rookie scale deals and the availability of two franchise tags) are even worse for their position group. They only have a small window of a few years to make money and these teams are just really hurting their ability to do so because they get 4-5 years on a rookie deal and then can franchise a player for 2 more seasons before they are then pushing 30 and are worth a lot less. If this position group wants to adjust the rules slightly because they are not allowed to maximize their value I say let them. One less year on a rookie deal and only allowing them to receive a transition tag once they hit free agency makes sense. If a RB is drafted at age 21/22 and performs really well in their first three seasons they hit the market at age 24/25 where teams can feel like they can invest 3-4 year deals into them and get high-level production for most if not all of the deal. Only having a transition tag (basically a right to match) allows the RB's to actually go out and get their value based on what another team or their team is willing to pay them. It avoids a team locking them out of 1-2 of their prime years. Right now if a RB at best gets drafted at age 21 and is on a 2nd round or later deal they can hit free agency at age 25 but then they can get tagged for two seasons. This means that even if they play out the tag for two seasons (which is very risky) they hit the market at age 27 with 6 seasons of wear and tear on their bodies and teams will be averse to offering a long-term deal because you are "pushing 30". And that's the "best case" scenario as players drafted at 22 or first-round picks facing a 5th-year option only hit free agency older. Just allow them to hit the market sooner and without the franchise tag. It still subjects them to the value they have on the market but it gives them a better window to get their contracts. I always hear how athletes and entertainers are "overpaid" but then people forget the other side of the equation that if the athletes and entertainers don't get the money it just goes to the owners/industry/shareholders. The way so many talk about athletes' salaries you would think that if athletes got paid a bit less the money would go to teachers.

It’s not like the RB money is coming from cancer Research. I always hate this argument because it makes It seem like there is no such thing as context. Yes without any context these players have large salaries. But they do not exist in a vacuum. Why should the owners run them down and not allow them to make as much money as they can in their narrow window of opportunity? There should be some adjustment to how RB’s are treated. Lowering their rookie deals by one year and eliminating the exclusive franchise tag for the position would be a decent start to allowing these guys to hit the market younger and avoid franchise tag traps.

Josh Allen is the Greatest Glitch in Madden History
billsfan89 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mike Vick from Madden 2004 was the most amazing game-breaking player, game was just not designed to handle him. -
Kincaid is going to be a key component of the offense. Mainly interested to see how he can operate out of the slot. Training camp is coming up so soon!

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Would have liked Hopkins but It isn’t the end of the world, the Bills clearly liked what they had on the roster to not make a huge offer for Dhop. If the WR group needs a boost in season the team will have some options to address that via trade. -
Random preseason OLine rankings <edited>
billsfan89 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Much more confident in the offensive line going into 2023 than I was in 2022. Not only do I feel more confident in the guard play with Torrence and McGovern but I also think the depth is vastly better. The addition of Davis and moving Bates back to the bench along with resigning the only decent depth the team had last year in Queese gives the team legitimate depth along the offensive line. I also think Snell is not a bad depth addition as well. Will the offensive line be an elite unit? Hard to say, depends on Torrence’s impact and Browns bounce back. But the team has positioned the offensive line much better. -
Knox is about the 12-10th best TE in the NFL. He isn't elite but he is better than average in my opinion. His Receptions (48) rank 17th among TEs in 2022 and his yards (517) rank 14th among TEs and his TD's (6) are tied for 5th among TEs in 2022. So outside of his TD numbers, he may seem fairly average but factoring in his targets (65) which rank tied for 18th among TE's in 2022 he looks a bit better doing more with less targets so to speak. Receiving wise I would say Knox's numbers are well outside the top 10 even factoring in his targets and high TD rate. BUT Knox is also known as a good blocker, something that I think adds value as many TE's with better-receiving numbers are average or worse blockers. So a good blocker with slightly above average receiving numbers on below-average volume puts him either just inside or just outside the top 10 at TE. So as a receiver he might be the 13-15th best TE but his blocking gets him up a few more spots.

If Billacheat gets fired after this year
billsfan89 replied to Prospector's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Pats could have a complete collapse and they will still not fire the cheat. It would take 2-3 more losing seasons before they move on from him. -
I give Dorsey an incomplete for his 2022 performance. The bad offensive line, injured QB, underperforming WR2 and it being Dorsey's first year calling the plays all added up to a very up and down season. Granted the offense still was a top unit by many measurements. However, I think by the end of 2023 we will really see how good or bad Dorsey is. Dorsey has more weapons and tools to work with in 2023 and a full year under his belt. Hopefully with better guard play and some new weapons things pan out bettter.

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Evans, Jeudy, and Thomas won't be available until in-season which is fine, the Bills can roll with what they have and if needed make an in-season trade. Hopkins would be a nice add but the market for WR's that may be traded in season will be there if things are really dire. -

billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hopkins would be a nice addition to the offense. Even if he just adds the production of a solid WR2 it would be just what the offense needs. However, given the age, recent injury history, and Hopkins having somewhat of a malcontent nature the Bills should approach the situation prudently (which I believe they are). They should be willing to do something similar to how they did the Floyd deal, small borrowing from future years but not too much overall dead money that hampers the team's ability in future years either. But I also think not getting Hopkins isn't the end of the world either. Mainly I think that even if the offense needs more punch the Bills can always make an in-season trade. Jerry Jeudy or another "rental" WR might be available. The fact that the Bills aren't going full-court press over Hopkins is a good thing. It means either they like what they have on the roster and aren't desperate or they don't think Hopkins is that huge of a difference maker so they named their price. -

billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
If the Bills wanted they could massage the cap to make a “big” offer but there is no reason why the Bills would want to take on what could be a big liability in future deadcap years for Dhop at this stage of his career. Similar to Floyd the Bills will probably make a decent respectable offer that make kick a bit of dead money down the road but they aren’t going to hamstring themselves too much either -

Seems to be what we are already speculating, the Bills want D-Hop but aren't willing to break the bank or simply can't break the bank given the cap. -

Baltimore completely warped the market overpaying for a WR who didn't play in 2022 due to a major injury. A more reasonable deal for OBJ would have been 3-5 million with incentives to get it to 7-8 million. Even an "overpay" to get him to a place like Baltimore where WR's don't like playing would still be 6-8 million guaranteed with 3-4 million in incentives. The Ravens poorly bid against themselves and it is causing D-Hop's representatives to think the money for him should be comparable. In reality D-Hop may have some nice offers in the 10-12 million range from NE and TEN but he likely has to come down from that number if he wants to play for a contending team. The Bills seemingly could maybe offer 8-9 million but does D-Hop want to come down from his salary demands to play with a contender? I also think he may be stringing along his signing until deep into camp which is a red flag for a team trying to sign him.
