I would love to see the Browns in the AFCCG. For one it would mean a third home game for the Bills (and the Bills beat the Ravens) and the Browns would be a better story than KC. I also think the Bills have a better shot against the Browns than against KC. But sadly I do think the Browns run ends against KC. Away game against Mahomes? That's a tall order. However the Browns do have some good tools (a dominant ground game) to pull off an upset.

Which HC Job, If Any, Does Brian Daboll Get?
billsfan89 replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These jobs aren't that undesirable. The Jags have Lawrence and a ton of cap space, their ownership is not cheap. They also have an extra 1st in 2021 from the Rams. The Chargers have a promising young QB and solid pieces. The Jets have pick 2 and Darnold along with a pair of extra firsts from Seattle and ownership that isn't cheap. Houston has one of the top QB's in the game and low short term expectations. I agree that some of these situations that aren't the best. Philly and Detroit are bad situations in my opinion. Philly has an odd QB situation and they are really cap strapped. Detroit has a average vet QB with a bad cap situation, not exactly thrilling. Atlanta has a better than average vet QB but their cap situation is a mess. Houston has one of the best QB's in the game but they have no picks in the first two rounds and their cap situation isn't that great. Overall I think that there still are only 32 of these HC jobs and you might be hot as a coordinator one year and then fall off in the next. I do agree Daboll has no issues staying with Buffalo if he doesn't like the fit but I think he would take 3-4 of these situations. -

I have a feeling he goes to Jacksonville. I think they want a QB guru up and coming offensive coordinator from a quality organization. Daboll fits that description. I hope Daboll stays put, since he will likely take some other coaches and staff with him to another org. But that is the cost of success. -
Leslie Frazier interviewing for Texans job
billsfan89 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be surprised but not shocked to see Frazier get a HC gig. I just don't see Frazier's resume being all that impressive. Yes the Bills defense has been top 10 or close since 2017 and he has been a part of that. However McD is the architect of the defense so Frazier isn't the sole generator. But his resume as an HC doesn't impress me and he is 61 going on 62. I don't see him as being a good fit for any team out there. He has a good pedigree and HC experience but I just don't see it with him. If I were an owner I would rather go with an up and coming younger coordinator. -
Will Deshaun Watson get traded? Could he land in AFCE?
billsfan89 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Fins won't have an issue with bottlenecks on contract extensions in my opinion, even if you have 9 to 10 picks every year including 4-5 in the first 2-3 rounds there is still a high bust rate in the NFL so the possibility of having so many players hit that it becomes an issue is improbable and a good problem to have anyway. My thinking with the Fins is that they are in a position where they need to go all in for a QB and they have the assets and cap space to get a top QB. If Watson wants out the Fins are in the best position to offer the best package of picks and fully absorb the contract. I agree that a Watson trade is unlikely as. you don't give up on a top 5 young QB with plenty of years on his contract. But if this situation gets ugly the Fins could easily swoop in and offer 6-7 top flight picks and other mid round selections for Watson. -

billsfan89 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I were Miami I would be offering the farm for Watson. I would offer up pick 3, 20, and 35 along with a mid round pick in 2021 and a 1st and 3rd in 2022 and a 2nd in 2023. The Dolphins have the cap space to absorb Watson and the draft capital to push for him. The Texans won't get a better haul of picks, 3 premium selections in 2021, two top picks in 2022 and a pick in 2023. If the Texans lose Watson that haul of picks will help greatly in a rebuild. The Fins are a QB away from being a serious contender. Watson would immediately make them a contender long term. -
Colts May Have Been Exactly What the Bills Needed
billsfan89 replied to theRalph's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Winning that game I hope gets the Bills to play less tight and play better and more loose. I could tell late in the game esp after that Josh fumble they really had the feel of them choking but they pulled through. Hopefully the coaching and the players perform better knowing they can win against a good team. -
It tested the limits of what you can do to benefit yourself draft stock wise. You can't purposefully bag a game and keep your locker room. You can sits guys who are hurt and even sit a few vets to get the younger guys some snaps. But you can't bench your second round QB for a non-factor QB with the game on the line all for 3 spots in the draft.
-
The trenches are the fulcrum of the game as the trench play most impacts the QB play. If your defensive line is dominating your opponents offensive line you put your opponents QB under consistent pressure and that makes them less effective and it makes running the ball nearly impossible. If your o-line is protecting your QB and opening running lanes then even an average QB can carve you up.

I think he completely lost the locker room after what he pulled in week 17. I think had he just had a regular bad season and they won 4 games and 1 tie they would have brought him back. He had made the playoffs every year from 2017 to 2019. He won the Super Bowl in 2017 and the Eagles won a playoff game in 2018 too. But that week 17 ***** probably really pissed off the players and they aren't going to be able to fully overhaul a roster with a lot of high paid players and an owner looking to compete. I expect Pederson to go to the Jets which wouldn't be the worst move.

In 2018 the offense was a bottom 2 offense in the league, probably only AZ was worse, certainly not more than 2 offense worse. They literally had 1 decent O-line player (Dawkins) and a very raw young QB. In 2019 the McBeane really did a number to rebuild the offense into a respectable unit around Josh (Completely rebuilt the O-line, signed Beasley and Brown to make the WR corps respectable, and added some young skill position players in Knox and Singletary.) They then added an elite piece of talent in Diggs in 2020 and Moss in the backfield and the rest fell into place. Overall it is shocking to see the offense go from bottom 2-3 in 2018 to lower mid level 18-22 in 2019 to a top 5 offense in the league. All the while the defense has at least stayed a solid unit and the special teams taken a very positive progression. It shows you how good the Bills defense was in 2018 that the team somehow won 6 games with literally one of the bottom 2-3 offenses in the league. As much praise as the 2019 defense gets the 2018 defense was about just as good

John Brown need you to step up going forward
billsfan89 replied to ILBillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills offense needs to be prepared to not have many possessions and that they have to capitalize on each scoring opportunity. In order to put up a lot of points on a high caliber defense they need to get Brown and Beasley going. Diggs will get his but he can't be too heavily relied upon. If Brown get 6 catches 70+ and Beasley at least 6 catches 60 yards that's enough to open up the offense and not have Diggs have to have a monster game in order to have a great offensive day. If Beasley and Brown combine for 130 yards then Diggs can get 80 yards, Davis 40 yards and then you can cobble together 50 yards from Knox, Singletary and Mac and others. That gets you to 300 yards. But overall this team has to be prepared to punch the Ravens in the mouth. Hopefully they can do it. Tough matchup but it is the playoffs they are all tough matchups. -

They need Brown to step up and make plays. But the Colts game was only his second week back from injury. I think he still has some rust to shake off. Hopefully against the Ravens he is locked and loaded because when he brings that speed element to the offense the offense is virtually unstoppable. -
Potential Coaches trade? (Pederson to Jets rumors)

I could see this happening oddly enough. -
Fear no one

Indy plays Cover 2 as a base defense (the defense Josh seems to have most trouble with) and they got some pressure on Josh. I think it is more so a matter of Indy playing the Bills tough and Josh executing just enough. It's the playoffs no games are going to be easy.

His first 3 years in my opinion were the growing pains of a unexperienced coach. Game management wasn't really ever bad with McD but it was average at best. He has become a lot stronger in that respect. He developed a bit of a cautious nature his first three years which really manifested its self in the 2019 playoffs (which made sense given that Josh was still growing and Tyrod was the QB in 2017) but he has since corrected that in 2020 and developed his team to have a killer instinct. I think he has developed himself into being a good head coach. I hope he has that killer instinct to win in the playoffs.

I liked the hire. I always prefer to go after an up and coming coordinator than a tired retread. In my years as a Bills fans I hated when they hired Jauron, Gailey and Rex all tired retreads (Although I liked Rex the most out of those three.) I know retreads like Billy B have done well but I tend to feel like retreads are bad hires more often than not. I liked when they hired Gregg, Mularky and Marrone and my opinion was similar for McD, I didn't know enough about him but it seems like he was a solid up and coming coordinator. I wasn't sure it would be a super successful hire but I thought it was the right type of hire philosophically.

They are going to have to constantly double Buckner similar to how they handled Hayward in the Steelers game during the second half. The Colts are going to have to run the football well and grind down the possessions to win. They can do that. Hopefully Josh can get the team hot early and the defense can pin their ears back and rush Rivers.
-
If the Bills get upset by the Colts they will have a "can't win in the playoffs" stigma that may infect the team mentally. If they beat the Colts and lose in round 2 that's a disappointment but at least they will have won a playoff game and made progress in the season. To me the season will be a disappointment if they don't make it to the AFCCG at the very least.

I hope this team ends up like the Pats in the 2000's and 2010's where players play well here, get paid elsewhere, are OK but overpaid get cut 2-3 seasons later once their dead cap is small and then resign back with the Bills for cheap and play well. I could see in 2 years Philips coming back on a cheap deal.

He isn't in a bad place in AZ, he took a big payday and is on a team that has a chance to win.

Josh coming out of college and even in 2018 and 2019 had accuracy issues. But particularly coming out of college it seemed like (and this was a great point from Mel Kiper) there were a lot of factors that made Josh's accuracy look worse than it was. Mainly that his receivers had a lot of drops and that the offense was a downfield passing offense that had less easy dump offs and screens than the average NCAA offense. Now that's not to say that Josh didn't have issues with footwork and decision making coming out of college and there was a bit of concern about his ability to process. But given how high his wonderlic was and how hard working he was I think the Bills understood that his issues were fixable. And by his second pro-season he was a much more accurate QB particularly in the short range where he struggled at times in 2018 and in college. It was insane how people didn't have at least some understanding of how much better he was accuracy wise in 2019 if you are going to do a big article about it.
