Pre Draft Offseason Priorities
Armchair GM replied to Armchair GM's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
read the first sentence again..."wish list" and knowing it won't be possible to sign more than one or two... not trying to be argumentative, nor am I comparing apples to apples, but to rebut on your comments on Wilson...Brees is too small, Sproles is too small, Desean Jackson is too small, London Fletcher is too small, Dwight Freeny is too small, Wes Welker is too small, Dexter McCluster is too small...did I miss anyone? -
pass rush Monster Margus Hunt
Armchair GM replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One thing for the rest of you to take note of in the first article, especially the critics, is the fact that this guy is ALREADY a world class athlete. The thing that stands out about that, to me, is that whatever this guy takes on, you can bet he is gonna bust his ass to be the best at it. It's all about the mindset with these type of athletes. @ the OP - I think you're on to something with this guy rocketing up some teams big boards. I am more than intreqgued by this monster and I can't wait to see him play some more. -
In light of Buddy's presser, and what he oulined as our priorities, here's what my wish list looks like (disclaimer: I don't pay attention to spelling, etc. Nor do I think it's possible to sign more than a couple, hence "wish list"): 1.) Re-sign SJ13 2.) Re-sign D. Bell 3.) Go out and get another WR. I think this will be the "splashy" move this year. Vincent Jackson, maybe, but I would prefer Dwayne Bowe...happy with either. 4.) Add playmakers to the D, some options are; DE - Mathis and Avril top my charts, but will likely demand big $$, so I REALLY like Tollefson. He provids depth to the G Men, but will start here, deservedly so. 5 sacks in rotational/ reserve duty. Especially if we stay with the highbrid 43/34 and put Williams and Dareus in the middle. LB - Mario Williams is he best available, and top 3 in the league (IMHO), but no way Houston lets him go, plus he'd break the bank. So I like Anthony Spencer. He benefits from playing opposite the very best OLB in the league, but he's a top tier talent that will bring a niche market, perfect for the Bills. CB - Brent Grimes is my favorite, but he's underated and is among a horrible pass D. My fear is ATL knows his value to them them and re-signs him. This leaves Finnegan, he's "dirty," but is a guy you love to hate and would rather have on your team, but I'd rather see Terrell Thomas with us. He'll make a full recovery and he's an above average #2 who is a BEAST on the preimeter and run support. 5.) re-sign Chandler and add another TE, a la *NE. Finley tops the list (can't imagine GB letting him go), but Shiancoe, Fells, Carlson, and even Tamme are all available. A second TE may not be a huge priority, maybe we get one in the Draft. Resulting Mock, 2012.1 Rd 1, pick # 10 - Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama. I just can't get past this kid. Talk about a gamer! e's the second comin of Terrell Suggs. Alt pick - Riley Reif - OT, Iowa Rd 2, pick # 42 - Mohammed Sanu, WR, Rutgers. Big, physical WR. Tremendous upper body strength to fight the jam, excellent route runner with excellent hands. Lacks the elite straight line speed but is fearless and ellusive after the catch. Alt pick - Trumaine Johnson - CB, Montana (rare combo of size speed for a CB) Rd 3, pick # 74 - Nate Potter - OT, Boise State. Needs to put on some #'s, but is a smart player with a relentless work ethic. Alt Pick - Joe Adams - WR, Arkansas (smallish @ 5'11" but goes 190 & is fast as lightning (nice slot WR) Rd 4a, pick # 105 - Jake Bequette - DE/OLB, Arkansas. Big boy, but has the speed to play the rush LB and I wouldn't be surprised if the Bills take a few OLB's this year. Alt pick - Shea McLellin - DE/OLB, Boise St Rd 4b, pick # 124 - Ryan Steed - CB, Furman. You don't ear All Conference Selections every year you play if you suck. Good size/speed combo. Alt pick - Russell Wilson - QB, Wisconsin Rd 5, pick # 133 - Russell Wilson - QB, Wisconsin. I hope he slips out of the 4th. Small guy @ 5'11'' but is a straight up leader. Posesses a rare resolve and simply performs well, at all times. Probably could have started as a true freshman @ NC State, but he redshirted. Even so, he lead the scout team and tore NC States D up in practice. Went on to three consective season with NC State earning all ACC acolades. Transferred to Wisconsinf or his final year and picked up right where he left off. Great developmental pick with a high potential of being a diamond in the rough. Alt pick - Rhett Ellison - TE, USC Rd 6, Tyler Urban - TE, WVU. Switched to the slot for the 2011 season. He was so good in practice, the coaching staff witched him to a fll time starter and woved the kid who was supposed to play in the slot outside to be able to get them both on the field. Always open and catches everything. Who does that @ 250lb's? Alt pick - Antoine McClain - OG, Clemson Rd 7, Kyle Martins - P, Rice...why not, lol? 46 yrd average...42% of is punts were downed inside the opponents 20 with only 5 touchbacks....The kid can place his kicks pretty well. Flame away...

If we go 4-3 and need DE depth....
Armchair GM replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With all of what you said, and the fact that I seem to remember asking my Uncles (Giant Fans) about him a couple times, I'd say we should have a bullseye on this guys back. I remember seeing this guy a couple times and thought he would be great, if not for who was in front of him and his lack of plaing time. -
OK, if anyone else wrote this...Astro, you seem to be more than reasonably educated in the game, so I can put a little more weight into what you post, so thank you for that! With the SD connection from Buddy and Merriman (SP) I don't think this is as far fetched as it initially appears to be. VJ & Stevie would be a ridiculous 1-2 WR rivaling what Atlanta has in White & Jones and put them among the top 5 duo's in the NFL...right up there with aforementioned Atlanta, GB, NO, etc. Here's my "but" scenario...for the money, why not go after 2 slightly lower end WR's, but still remain in the upper echelon of WR corps? I think, with the KC connection Gailey has, Bowe might be a very attractive option. This would still give us a great 1-2 where neither could be doubled. To round it out I would add Meachum to the mix. He's a legit deep threat and I don't see any way that NO is able to keep him, even if they wanted to, he's expendable with the current group of guys they have in Colston, Henderson, Moore and the emergence of Roby as a reliable 4th option. Plus they have bigger priorities with Breez, Colston, Nicks, Franklin, Porter & Rogers. Imagine going into next season with a WR's like SJ13, Bowe, Meachum, Nelson, Haggan (I liked what I saw in limited time), Smith & Roosevelt. Unfortunately this leaves no room for Aiken, who I believe will be a very good WR in tis league when he gets his shot...I just like what I've seen with Roosevelt and the fact that he's a hometown guy. However, I believe he'd still be eligible for the PS. This way we stay put in the draft order. I like Mercilus because of the monster year he had, but I' like Nick Perry a bit better. Perry had a couple great years and one slowed by a nagging high ankle sprain (never let it full heal, came back to soon & it bugged him for a while). He just seems to move a bit quicker on the field to me. My problem is that both of these guys are NCAA DE's projecting to be NFL OLB's...I mean, they fit a need of quick edge setting pass rushers, but a big question is their coverage skills. Are they able to drop and cover the middle of the field on the weak side and cover a TE on the strong side? Rather than giving a mock, here's my extremely early watch list per round: Rd 1 - Courtney Upshaw (DE/OLB), Melvin Ingram (DE/OLB), Whitney Mercilus (DE/OLB), Alfonso Denard (CB) and Jonathan Martin (OT). With these options, I think it may enable us to trade back a few spots and pick up extra pick(s). Rd 2 - Billy Winn (DT/DE), Bruce Irvin (OLB; very intrigued, but to small to play DE in the NFL), Zebrie Sanders (OT), Chase Minnifield (CB). Again, may be able to trade back into the mid to later parts of the round. Rd 3 - Cam Johnson (DE), Andrew Datko (OT), Chandler Jones (DE/OLB), Tommy Streeter (WR), Michael Egnew (TE), Rd 4 - Levy Adcock (OT), Shea McLellin (DE/OLB), Ryan Lindley (QB) or Brandon Weeden (QB). Thoughts...?

If The Front Office Does Not Sign Stevie
Armchair GM replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could it be that Chan wants someone else? How about Dwayne Bowe...they have the connection, Bowe and Stevie are similar receivers (Bowe maybe a bit better) and Bowe isn't as immature as SJ13...Just something to ponder as I am a SJ13 fan, but coudn't help but think... -
It's all about how each team ranks players..all the "experts" can place their value, but it doesn't matter unless some one who is calling the shots on each team agrees. I like the kid, he's ligit coming out of a conference that has some of the best passing attacks in the NCAA. I've seen him ranked as high as the 6th best player coming out this year...
-
No thanks...2012 potential free agents are littered with quality WR talent...One guy I'd keep an eye on is Robert Meachum...NO has 5 starting offensive players that will be FA's in 2012 (more likely 4 as they'll get a deal done with Brees sooner than later), including Colston, who will be a priority there. They also have Lance Moore and Meachum may end up a cap casualty. The guys is a legit deep threat and runs really good routes...a great WR and would be an awesome pick up IMHO.
-
Maybe nobody on this board...he's the #1 ranked DE in the NCAA...lead the PAC 12 in sacks as a Jr and is considered one of the fastest DE's to come out in a while...Would be nice, but he's a top 10 pick. I wouldn't be against it as our #1 need is a pash rusher, but not sure if they go D-Line in rd 1 2 years in a row...but, who knows!

[closed]Who takes the blame for lack of depth?
Armchair GM replied to GeorgeEdwardsTeeth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So, yeah...2 years into the GM position, after inheriting a turd...I get it! He was supposed to build depth while finding who can start...at the same time? Pretty short sighted on your part! -
Al of the above...? 86 the RB's, we're goof there.
-
Would be a great signing.

Jets...mostly because of that fat B-Tard head coach. The only person on the planet hat gastro bi-pass surgery failed on...tubbs would eat his stomach if he could. Cox, Pennington and Johnson didn't help the love loss, but Ryan pushed me over the edge. Probably the only team in the NFL I harbor any true hatred for. Yeah, I hate the *Pats, but it's hard not to respect a well oiled machine of an organization. I think my biggest problem is the teams I love...Bills, Browns 7 Eagles...doht!!!

FAIL...Whitener = Stud!? Enough said.

What famous movie quote would you use to
Armchair GM replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Purely AWESOME! In a Chinese accent"...they're still shi**y!" Major League -
Blame the coach for absolutely terrible QB play...The only fault I saw was not yanking Fitz after he continued to make poor decisions and terrible throws. You're right about the D staff, though.

Stevie Johnson: After the INT
Armchair GM replied to mountainwampus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow...really? That INT was easy? Looked to me that he made a hell of a leap to go up and get the ball and SJ13 had ZERO chance of making a play as he broke his route to attempt to come back to a poorly underthrown ball....OH, and he did, in fact, make and attempt to touch the CB, but got blocked out of the way. You're reaching for something to mitch and boan about homey...FAIL. Are you a Fitz lover? That's what I thought! -
What Happens If They Can't Resign Steve Johnson?
Armchair GM replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Either which way we need to make a play for Bowe or Meachum in FA. Stevie walks, go after both. SJ13 & Bowe are similar go and get it type WR's, and Meachum provides a legit deep threat. I'm not really buying into avoiding FA as much as Nix likes to do. There is value there! I agree that you build through the draft, but there IS A NEED to supplement the draft with quality FA acquisitions. Not sure how much of it is pride, but I think Nix needs a grain of humility. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and I BILLIEVE he's done a pretty good job so far...we'll see. All of that said, I think SJ13, immaturity and all, should be a priority. The kid's got something that most other WR's don't. He's young and still needs a little coaching and time to develop...not much, but a good kick in the pants will do him right. Here's to hoping they reach an agreement. -
im not trying to decorate a turd
Armchair GM replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still believe that Shepp will turn out to be the greatest linebacker this team has seen in a long time... -
Biggest need, IMHO, is fixing the pash rush, or lack there of. Upshaw is a stud and ChaNix are obsessed with players from the south.

First off, this is a total layman's perspective...and I don't even know if I'm right: Even if we win out, the rest of the AFC "world," that are still in the hunt need to go sub .500 for us to get the wild card... The "Prop" Jets, need to lose 3 of 4 against KC, Philly, G-Men & Miami...need a miracle here. Cinci needs to lose 3 of 4 against St. Louis, AZ, Houston & Baltimore...50/50 on this one. Tennessee needs to lose 3 of 4 against Indi, JAX, NO & Houston...need Indi or JAX to steal one. Denver needs to lose 2 more....assuming we're one, it's likely that the other could come to *NE, Chicago or even KC...well, maybe not KC. Oakland needs to lose 2 more...this is the most likely scenario with GB, Detroit, KC & San Diego left on their schedule. All in all, not much of a glimmer of hope here, but maybe Santa will be good to all of us here in Buffalo.

Wasn't that long ago ...
Armchair GM replied to Delete This Account's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, aren't you the consummate pro, JW!? Your arrogance is surpassed only by your idiocy in bashing an amateur's 3 month old post, while in the interim this team has been decimated by injury...again. Further, please point out any print that brought the apparent ineptitude of our defensive coordinator to light. I bet you can't as all the bills Bashing by the media at the beginning of the season was on the talent level of the players...Obviously, I can't say for sure, but I can easily see 3 more wins if not for an extremely poor defensive scheme. Who, you ask? 1.) Cincinnati - George decides it not a good Idea to blitz a rookie QB coming off a game where he was sacked 5 times and threw 2 picks; pretty obvious to me that we should have blitzed the H. E. double hockey sticks out them and won that game easily; 2.) Giants - at the point in the season, the giants weren't playing all that well & EVERYONE knows Eli chokes under pressure, but again, no blitzing...at all; 3.) 2nd game against the "Prop" Jets - Mark Sanchez...enough said. Admittedly, I'm a total Bills homer, one of the crazies...but, this "I told you so," childish, "I'm always right," crap is simply distasteful. -
League will study Johnson's escape from Revis Island
Armchair GM replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Started out hot... His best game was against the #2 corner in the league (I like Woodson as #1), and his first outing against Revis & co he put up another 70 some yards....sooooo, 2 very good games man up on Revis, a hot start, and a lull due to injury...I think he's pretty damn good & if you don't see it you don't have much in the football IQ department upstairs. Sorry, not trying to be rude, but seems like your the guy who lets Pat Williams, Antoine Winfield, Jabari Greer, etc. walk away....you must keep your best players to remain competitive year in and year out. We have 5 more games left, and barring any further set backs with his hammy, i'm willing to bet he finishes as strong as he started and earns a pay day. -
League will study Johnson's escape from Revis Island
Armchair GM replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we already have one in Kamar Aiken...the kid needs a chance and should get his shot soon enough.
