NFL looks like it's going to move draft to May
papazoid replied to bbb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The league also noted there will be no other changes to the '14 calendar. The pre-draft NFL Scouting Combine will still take place from February 18-25, and the league year, tied to contracts and free agency, will begin on March 11. http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2013-05-28/2014-nfl-draft-may-8-9-10-new-york-league-calendar-scouting-Combine -

hopefully Mario can channel his inner waterboy. -
Players who received a tender but havent signed an NFL contract and unrestricted free agents whose contracts expired can participate in offseason workouts and minicamps with their previous team while retaining the free agency rights they have. In order to participate, these players must sign an agreement that contains the standard language the NFL and NFLPA came up with last year. It has been incorporated into the 2011 collective bargaining agreement as Appendix Q. Appendix Q protects players in case they are injured while participating in team activities during the offseason. Practically speaking, players who are franchised, such as Jairus Byrd and Ryan Clady, and restricted free agents, like Victor Cruz, can choose to participate in team activities without signing an NFL player contract. A main benefit to signing a participation agreement instead of an NFL contract is that a player will preserve his option of holding out without subjecting himself to penalties. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Participation-is-optional.html

papazoid replied to taglientep's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jairus Byrd is way above an average safety. is he top 5 ? NO......is he top 10 ? maybe....is he top 15 ? for sure. is he worth $9 mil/year ? NO is he worth $8 mil/year ? maybe is he worth $7 mil/year ? YES if i'm the bills, i'm playing hardball. he plays under his franchise tag this year or signs for $7-8 mil. otherwise I franchise tag him again next year. -

Mario Williams: no love for

agreed.....Mario saying it was "taken out of context" is deflecting responsibility. he said it....the word "suicide". it crosses a line. at best he was hurting deeply and feeling helpless as the relationship unraveled. he was looking for a desperate reaction from her. most likely, he did have real thoughts of suicide. also, if it was possible to check ( which it probably isn't) he didn't have a prescription from a doctor to take as many pain pills as he said he was contemplating. -
Troupe...will he get a chance to show us this year?

Torell Troup He played under the name Torell Johnson during his high school career and his first two seasons at Central Florida. -
that's the perfect line for them. improved attacking defense. improved QB play especially on long throws and mobility ( i'm assuming EJ Manuel will be starting) much harder schedule. equals 6-10

NFL looks like it's going to move draft to May
papazoid replied to bbb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I totally agree....which is why the added revenue will come from an expanded playoff system. the regular season will stay at 16. the preseason will be reduced from four to two games and the playoffs will be expanded from the current 6 per conference to either 7 or 8. -

Cutting two games off the preseason -- either by expanding the playoffs or moving to an 18-game schedule -- is still being discussed, commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday at the NFL's spring owners meetings in Boston. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9301274/expanded-playoffs-18-games-mulled-roger-goodell -
the game is sold out because it's the HOME OPENER.....it wouldn't matter who we play. right now 95% or more of the new england tix are in the hands of bills fans. Regular tickets for the Kansas City and New England games sold out during a special pre-sale for season ticket holders, where season ticket holders could purchase an unlimited amount of individual game tickets Saturday. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/First-two-home-games-sell-out/f5432b30-56ce-4c75-b149-8ee5dbc67a53

NFL looks like it's going to move draft to May

Goodell again doesnt rule out 18-game season Plenty of skeptics believe that the leagues intent to alter its calendar, moving the draft from April to May and the Scouting Combine from February to March, arises not from a desire to expand the leagues footprint during the offseason but to lay the foundation for an expansion of the season. [The options] are all on the table; Goodell said at a press conference that concluded the quarterly ownership meetings in Boston; As I have said before, I think the structure of the season is something that we consistently reevaluate. I have been quite open about [indicating that] we have to address the quality of the preseason. I hear from fans consistently that they want to make every NFL event more valuable. They see the preseason as being less valuable to them because they dont see the best players and the games do not count. We have to address that, whether we are looking at 18 [regular-season games] and two [preseason games] or 16-and-two and expanded playoffs. They are all on the table and things we are going to evaluate; http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/22/goodell-again-doesnt-rule-out-18-game-season/ I like the 16 & 2 with expanded playoffs. -

NFL looks like it's going to move draft to May

The quid pro quo apparently will come from the movement of the start of the league year (and in turn the launch of free agency) from after the Scouting Combine to before it. While at first blush this suggests the new league year will land in February, the more likely outcome is that the Scouting Combine will happen in March. Regardless of the precise dates for the Scouting Combine, the change means that the Combine no longer would be the league’s annual tampering swap meet. The market already would be open, and agents would be trying to do deals with teams instead of merely laying the foundation for those deals in a way that violates NFL rules. The league had wanted to move the Combine to March, to delay the launch of free agency to April, and to nudge the draft to May. The NFLPA wisely balked, since it would delay the transfer of offseason funds from teams to players. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/20/offseason-overhaul-close-to-happening/ -
YES, that part is true, you must be paid in full BEFORE you can list your tickets on the NFL Ticket Exchange. your second part is not correct. I have 10 season tickets, my account is paid in full. I have been told by my Buffalo Bills Account Rep that I will NOT be able to list my tickets, even though I am paid in full, til sometime early june. they will send me an email and she confirmed my email addy. she also said the tickets that are listed now, are from special brokers who pay an additional fee (I did not ask to whom).
-
actually I am very excited about the upcoming season. I am still a pessimist on the win loss record, but I am excited about the upcoming style of play. specifically the entertainment and excitement of watching an Attacking style defense and EJ Manuel throwing a long ball.
-
just as a point of interest... season tickets holders are not yet able to post tickets for sale on the NFL Ticket Exchange until sometime in early June (they will be sent an email notification of exact date). the tickets that you see for sale now on the NFL Ticket Exchange are from some type of Broker who pays an additional special fee.
