Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp
papazoid replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
more than likely, he is going to have to wait TWO more seasons to find out if another team will pay him $9-10 mil. if I was the bills I would would franchise tag him again next year. make him play for the Bills only or sit home. meanwhile, Byrd makes less money and exposes himself to long term injury and or poor play before he gets his long term deal. he passed on $20 mil GUARANTEED money. Byrd's next step will be to insist the Bills NOT franchise tag him again next year as a condition of him signing this years franchise tag. WHICH THE BILLS SHOULD DECLINE. call his bluff and let him sit to week 10. -

Source: #Bills Byrd demanding to be highest paid safety in NFL. Told Bills were willing to offer top 4-5 money if this is true, then the Bills position is very understandable. current Franchise Tag money is $6.9 mil/year* (When the NFL and NFLPA signed their new CBA in 2011, some of the rules regarding franchise tags were changed. Instead of averaging out the top five salaries at each position, the league utilized a five-year average, which was lower than the current average). current year Top 4-5 money is just over $8 mil /year. current #1 paid safety is $9.1 mil/year (Polamalu). looks like they are about $1 mil/year apart. assuming the bills offered 5yr/$40 mil with $20 guaranteed. Byrd should have taken it. -

question ?....is there any evidence that Byrd DOES want to be here ? has Byrd ever said anything positive towards signing long term with the Bills ? I agree with you that it's mostly about the money, in particular the GUARANTEED money, but my sense is that Byrd really doesn't want to be here, hence why I think this is going to get ugly, before it is finally resolved one way or the other. -

I think the Bills have the upper hand and can slow play this (which it appears is exactly what they are doing). the hammer being they can essentially franchise tag him 3 years in a row. 2013 is $6.9 mil (1st time) 2014 is $8.3 mil (120% increase, 2nd time) 2015 is $11.9 mil (144% increase, 3rd time) this averages out to $9 mil/year which is probably less than Byrd is initially asking for and about what he would probably settle for. no way the bills agree to NOT tag him next year. the benefit to the Bills is it gives them time to evaluate him in Pettine's defense. it protects the Bills long term should Byrd get injured or not play at a Pro Bowl level and the Bills want out after any season. gives them plenty of time to seek a trade to our benefit. once he looks at the Bills options, it might force him to accept a more reasonable long term deal. -

this is not going to end well. I see BOTH sides playing hardball. the bills prefer to have Byrd playing under the one year franchise tag WITHOUT a long term Top 5 money deal. they will tag him again next year. I believe they prefer this route even over a reasonable Top 10 long term deal. the player prefers to sign a long term deal for Top 5 money. absent that Byrd will hold out and not play until the 10th week of the season where he will then report to work so he gets credited with a "vested" season. -

No progress between Bills, Jairus Byrd: The Bills and Byrd have until July 15 to agree to a multi-year extension. If he doesnt sign by then, he can only sign a one-year contract. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/06/no-progress-between-bills-jairus-byrd/ -

the NFL RedZone is where it's at... on sundays, every touchdown from every game, live look ins, key plays, fantasy stats, highlights, scores, all in high definition. you can keep your eye on every game. non stop action and NO COMMERCIALS !! then they sign off the air with a touchdown montage of every score from that day. usually around 60 TD's in chronological order, one right after the other. -

Would the Pats* dynasty happened if Parcells was still head coach? probably not.....but they still would have been very very good. parcells has been successful everywhere he has been and there is no reason to believe he wouldn't have been in new England. having said that, the biggest difference would of been in the draft. in fact the drafting of WR terry glenn (whom parcel referred to as "she", when parcel wanted to draft a D lineman instead, is what led to the breakup.

#1- Brad Smith #2- Mark Anderson

Packers say some seat backs, foam pads survive seat-cushion ban The leagues new approach to stuff brought into a stadium becomes problematic in places where fans still place their butts on metal bleachers. Apparently, the league is willing to soften (pun not intended but what the hell Ill take it) the rules, a bit. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/06/21/packers-say-some-seat-backs-foam-pads-survive-seat-cushion-ban/

Report: Evidence puts Hernandez with dead associate on evening of murder According to FOX 25 in Boston, police have determined that four men including Hernandez and Odin Lloyd were in a vehicle together after leaving a bar, and that only three of the men returned to Hernandez home. Per the report, and supplemented by tweets from Ted Daniel of FOX 25, forensic evidence collected by police places a vehicle driven by Hernandez at the crime scene. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/06/19/report-evidence-puts-hernandez-with-dead-associate-on-evening-of-murder/ -

The possible end of an era for Buffalo as a franchise

LONG TERM: #1- with Toronto, the Bills are the 4th LARGEST nfl market. that is a very desirable size market. bills unlikely to relocate anywhere, plus it helps that the L.A. situation is messed up. #2- they recently signed a 7 year lease with a $400 million poison pill buyout. while not iron clad, it is a sizable deterrent for relocation. other franchises are more likely to move before buffalo (i.e. jax, san diego, raiders). #3- when ralph passes, of course they sell to the highest bidder and russ is likely out. SHORT TERM: #1- doug whaley probably stays in any scenario of ownership change and/or a very high draft pick. #2- I doubt they take a QB with the #1 pick in 2014, even if a top 3 pick. besides, the bills will be picking 7th.
