LOCAL REPORTERS - "have" to write something everyday about the Bills. so sometimes, not so important stuff becomes news. NATIONAL REPORTERS - do NOT have to write about the Bills today. so they have the advantage of only covering the Bills when something big happens.

Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp
papazoid replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
a Byrd in the hand is worth two in the bush. -
forget the game.......risk of injury to great, the biggest superstars find a way to not attend and Super Bowl players are unable. make it an Awards show where ALL the true Pro Bowlers (no alternates) are recognized. preferably during the off week prior to super bowl where all the media is already assembled.

So sick and tired of (most) local Buffalo media guys...
papazoid replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
when the highest paid player on any team doesn't trust the team doctors enough, so that he goes out and gets a second opinion and the team slow plays the release of information regarding said injury and the second opinion...IT'S A BIG STORY ! -
"NFL players are entitled to a second medical opinion if they inform the team in advance. So what was the big deal? The Bills simply could have told reporters "Mario is getting a second opinion on his foot, and until the result from that examination comes back we're going to refrain from any comment about the injury." HERE IS THE BIG DEAL: the next question is going to be "does Mario have faith in the Bills Medical Staff " ANSWER : NO !!

Mario's contract is basically a 2 year deal
papazoid replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
hilarious ! -
in fact, based on the way his wrist injury was handled by the team last year, it wouldn't surprise me if Mario is already seeking a second opinion from a non-Bills doctor for whatever is bothering him.
-
that is a WEAK performance by Marrone......in fact, i'd call it Amateurish. you might be able to bully your way around the media in college..... but that crap doesn't work in the NFL. Let's see, your highest paid player on the entire team is NOT at practice......and you don't have anymore information than you did at this time yesterday ??.....LAUGHABLE !!

Mario's contract is basically a 2 year deal
papazoid replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
3/15/2012: Signed a six-year, $96 million contract. The deal contains $50 million guaranteed, including a $19 million signing bonus and all of Williams' 2012 and 2013 base salaries. Another $4 million is available through incentives. Williams is eligible for an annual $500,000 workout bonus in years two through six. 2013: $6.5 million (+ $8 million option bonus), 2014: $1.9 million (+ $10.6 million roster bonus), 2015: $12.1 million (+ $1 million roster bonus), 2016: $11.5 million (+ $2.5 million roster bonus), 2017: $11.4 million (+ $3.5 million roster bonus), 2018: Free Agent http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3636/mario-williams let's assume he has the exact same production as last year.....he's NOT getting cut after 2 years. -

Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp

this is NOT going to end well. #1- Byrd's super agent has to know the Bills will franchise tag him at least twice (this year at $6.9 and next year at $8.3). #2- any 5 yr deal with $20-$25 mil Guaranteed is really a 3 year deal( most of these guys get cut before the end of the deal) #3- Byrd and his agent went into this negotiation saying we will sign with buffalo only if they break the bank and make Byrd the highest paid safety in the league (over $9 mil/yr), anything less and they will attempt to force their way out. #4- if it is your intention to stay with the Bills, it almost rises to malpractice that the agent would put his client at risk for two 1 year deals instead of 3 years of guaranteed money. #5- I suppose it's possible that if Byrd has another ALL-Pro season in Pettine's defense, the bills then might be convinced to pay him #1 safety money after this season. I think it's more likely that the stalemate continues all over again next year. #6- playing this out to year three. the bills could start off by tagging him again at $11.9 mil (+ 144%). then just before the regular season starts in 2015 THEY RESCIND the franchise tag at which time he becomes a free agent in a market that has completely dried up. -
Mario's toes are hurting him ....

Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp

did Byrd and his agent make a mistake ? had they accepted the bills offer of Top 4-5 safety money he would have averaged over $8 mil/year for 5 years and had GUARANTEED MONEY over $20 million. now he has at best $6.9/mil for 1 year and GUARANTEED MONEY of $6.9 if he plays all 16 games. if they play the same game next year and the bills tag him again, he has at best $8.3/mil for another 1 year and GUARANTEED $8.3 meanwhile, they assume risk of injury and/or a drop off in play that "could" backfire on him. what if he has an off year this season ? will he be worth #1 safety money next year ? what is Byrd's leverage ? he can hold out til week #10 to avoid risk of injury. then he could pull up lame in his first practice and not play for a few more weeks. -

i'm going the other way. first, he is NOT a distraction to the other players. in fact, they are all probably encouraging him to get all the money he can possibly get. second, he is not a distraction to the team. looks like they anticipated this holdout and drafted accordingly. you coach who is here. next man up. third, the Bills should play hardball all the way. STOP LETTING PLAYERS FORCE THEIR WAY OUT. Byrd is under team control for at least this year and next at reasonable franchise tag numbers ($6.9 & $8.3). they could even stick it to him a third year at $11.9 just to make a point. LET HIM SIT HIM HOME IF HE WANTS. -

or just defusing the the situation before the circus on sunday. remember his agent is all about action and little words. his agent's next action will be an attempt to use as leverage, that byrd will sign his one year deal and come to camp "IF" the bills agree to NOT use the tag again next year. I would guess that the bills have communicated they have no intention of agreeing to that. therefore, the stalemate continues. the earliest to expect byrd is week #1 of the regular season. he will not come to camp or play in any pre-season games. -
he already picked #3 http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2013/04/26/manuel-jersey-number/

By Tim Graham No surprise here, but Buffalo Bills fans must've hoped for one. The Bills and Jairus Byrd have not made progress on a new contract, and he will not report to St. John Fisher College this weekend for the start of training camp, two sources with knowledge of the stalemate have told me. http://blogs.buffalonews.com/press-coverage/2013/07/sources-jairus-byrd-wont-report-for-training-camp-this-weekend.html
