$12M+ ?? Yeah right! He would have been looking for $15M+
-
I can't argue that. Goff seems to be legit and they are just getting to get comfortable with one another. I believe there is probably a decent chance he still could be around that 1100 yards 70 catches by the end of the season.
-
So why is that other great receivers who actually have been more of a threat than Sammy are consistently able to get production? Opposing teams don't make these adjustments to take them out? Why is it that this reasoning applies for Sammy but not all the other good receivers? That's where this argument that you pose comes apart. We are only a quarter way into the season, and there is plenty of time for Sammy to turn around his 850 yards 55 catches for the season pace that he is on right now. The good WR's in this league are in the 70-90 receptions 1000-1200 yards The elite WR's are in the 80-100 receptions 1200 to 1450 yards At some point, the production will have to be on par with the elites to justify the money he was looking for. If he doesn't get those elite numbers then there is virtually very little basis for the money he believes he's worth.

Like I said, no one denies Sammy's talent. What is at question is his consistency. Other top end receivers that opposing defenses key in on are able to play at a more consistent level than Sammy. If people choose to believe that Sammy is being slighted or unlucky, or defenses are keying in on him or whatever other reason they have as justification for his lack of targets, that's their prerogative. But at the end of the day, no matter what excuse is given, he has not been able to become a high performing receiver on a consistent basis like a good number of other receivers. Yes, he had a fantastic 9 game stretch. Lights out!!!! Aside from that 9 game stretch, there hasn't been much else to show for on a consistent basis.

I don't understand how this concept is lost upon people, but it certainly is.

You can file this under the "All it takes is one team to believe in his potential/skill" category. -
Week 5: Bengals' Game Preparation - Inactives Announced

Without our best WR and leading tackler and maybe a couple other key injuries, it's setting up to be an awfully tough game. -

Isn't Gary Barnidge still available? We play multiple TE formations, he probably wouldn't be a bad pickup. -

Bills' LB Humber Has a Broken Hand and Will Miss Time
Magox replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is certainly a loss much like Matthews. Humber has been a tackling machine for us and that won't be easily replaceable for next week. Frazier and McD are going to have their work cut out for them, and you may as well add Rico to that list as well.. It's going to be a tough game next week. -
Some people wonder why there is all this "hate" for Gilmore. It's a combination of things. A) He was a high draft pick and some people don't believe he was worth the pick. I don't quite fall in that category but that is part of it B) He went to Patriots. Do we really need to say more about that? C) He went to the Patriots and made some comments that can easily be interpreted as backhanded insults to the Bills. D) He never endeared himself to Bills fan base sorta like Sammy. Gilmore comes across as aloof, smug and that never is anything really completely his fault.

Holy smokes! I'm reading twitter on him and it is brutal!

The board went apoplectic after Sammy's 100 yard game 11 days ago, what's the reaction to his 1 catch 17 yard game? It's certainly too early to draw any full conclusions but it is sort of a microcosm of what we've seen when he was on the field with us. One game he looks great, the next he is a virtual non factor. I will say this though, Goff looks good. It's starting to appear that they may have made a good selection with him after all.

Jordan Matthews Thumb Injury Update: Active vs. TB
Magox replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, I think our WR unit isn't where it needs to be. Matthews would be a good #2 option preferably in the slot where he is at his best. We need a true #1 and I'm guessing next year's draft we will address that. -

Got lucky on that one, but the defensive stand and preparation knew that Ryan's first look was to the WR at the bottom and the safety took the slant away. Then of course White was fantastic on his man. The success of that play was part luck, part great preparation to take away his first look and part great skill from White. -

Anyone who doesn't recognize Matthews as being a decent WR either A) has no idea what they are talking about or B) Has an ax to grind -

Do you believe in the McD/Beane era? Poll

Yes, that drive was Rico's worst playcalling of the game. I would have loved to have seen them go for the throat on first down right into the endzone. -
I'm going to be honest, I didn't think we'd hold them under 25 and thought for us to have a chance we'd have to put up at least 25. Defense is looking even better than I thought.

I think Dennison gets a bad rap from fans. Sometimes his play calling can be a little on the conservative side and yes the run game hasn't so far been as good as last year. But the 2nd half adjustments seem to be on the mark and with not an all star cast of talent on offense he appears to be putting TT in a good position to make some plays and has been playing to his strengths. I think he's been doing pretty good. -
He's so physical and aside from a couple busted coverages last week, doesn't he always seem to be right on the receivers hip? Plays with a lot of physicality and his instincts are top notch.
-
I've been talking about his lack of awareness for quite some time.
-
Absolutely! The guy was viewed as such a good defensive coordinator that he became a head coach because of it. Thank god that didn't work out because now he's with us.

Matthews has been an important member of this offense this year. When he's made catches on drives our team has put up points more often than not. He isn't as dynamic or for that matter good as Watkins but for the limited amount of time he's had with TT, he has become his most trusted WR. He's been a very good pickup for this team.
