We have #1 ranked Defense!!! [confirmed!]

Love it! But we probably will go down some after this upcoming week. -
Raiders didn't look so hot either. Make no mistake they are a good team but they certainly showed that they can look as putrid as anyone on any given Sunday.
-
I think Humber is a keeper as a quality reserve player. I do believe they will look to upgrade this position with someone who has more speed but you are right the dude seems to be in position and rarely misses a tackle.

"The Process" gets nice shout out from national media

I think this is where the disconnect lies. They aren't going into this with a mindset of a tank. They are squarely looking at a dual mission. Which is how do I build this team the way we envision by making them as competitive as possible now with an eye on the future? Not, well let's make them kind of ok now and who knows? Maybe we make the playoffs or maybe we get a top 5 pick. It's beginning to look more and more like this team will be somewhere in the 6-10 To 10-6 range. Which would put us in that draft purgatory range. Going into the season I figured we would be in the 4-12 To 8-8 area. Maybe we don't get Darnold or Rosen, but there are some very intriguing QB prospects aside from those guys and no matter how you slice it, 2 firsts/seconds and third round selections gives this team plenty of opportunities to improve this team from a talent perspective. Not to mention all the cap room we will have. I think there is reason for optimism for this teams future -
I still believe this team will have plenty of struggles in 2017. That we lack talent in certain areas such as WR, OL, LB and QB. My point is that Mcd/Beane are more competent and prepared than what some fans believe and as a result already a better than a dire 3-13 caliber team. Admittedly I didn't believe we would be this far ahead of schedule and it is very possible that we regress in a couple areas at some point but for now this is looking like a well coached team with players really buying in.

1) His clock management could still use some improvement. 2) He's got his players buying in to the process and culture change 3) He's got his players prepared on game day 4) They are installing good game plans vs their opponents 5) They are outcoaching the opposing coaches and coordinators by making the more effective 2nd half adjustments. So far every game we've made the better 2nd half adjustments on both offense and defense

Positives/Negatives from Today's game
Magox replied to Overseas Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McCoy was big on the receptions but struggled with his runs. He has a tendency to lose more yards than he has to on some runs which is why Tolbert was more effective running the ball today. I'm guessing he will have a much better ground game next week. -
Yes And I do agree he wasn't the reason they traded Sammy. From their perspective the reason they traded Sammy was because they didn't believe he was worth $16m + a year and they tried to get as much value as they could. Considering that he was in his last year of his contract, I think they got good value in return.
-
What I believe is they did their homework and specifically went after Gaines and that 2nd rounder. They believed Gaines could end up being a quality starting NFL DB within their scheme and so far they've been right.
-
I'm sure Beane didn't view him as a throwaway.
-
I don't know, like I always say all it takes is one team to make it happen.
-
Not the way he's been playing. He would need to begin living in the opponents backfield before that could even be a possibility. His contract is what makes it tough.
-
Has he been worth his contract value or anywhere near it? And yes he did have a really good year before he signed but good organizations sometimes have to make tough unpopular decisions to do what's best for the team. Whaley got skittish and overvalued him much like he has with others as well (Sammy). Whaley is a good talent evaluator but he certainly didn't know how to value that talent.
-
A huge change and although the talent level isn't where it needs to be, we certainly have the ammunition to improve dramatically from a talent standpoint starting next year. This year it's about playing good team, sound and disciplined football and changing the culture. Next year things will get even more exciting.

I'm Surprised by Zay Jones' Slow Start

I think it's a confidence issue. If he can get his confidence back then that will be a huge plus to this offense. -
If Matthews has can be had for $8M a year then they should be all over it.
-
I hear ya. But if he continues to play like he has the first three games his price tag is going to continue to climb and even though Gaines has been playing really well, I don't believe they would want to pay him north of $10M a year.

And this team this year will still have it's struggles moving forward. What's important is that we are finally playing good disciplined football. Next year when we get all those draft picks and use those cap savings to build and add more players, the talent level will take a noticeable jump. -
Highly doubtful. EJ Gaines alone has been more valuable to our defense than Watkins has been for the Rams. Plus there is that 2nd rounder and all that cap savings to continue to build for the future. They are absolutely loving the way things are going.

As it should! -
Tyrod played a good game today. He definitely helped our team win. So far 2 good games and one not so hot. If he can continue to do that then we'll be in the playoffs. Not so sure he will do it but who knows?
-
Yes! I've seen enough. If they try now they may be able to get him for around $7M-$8M a year sort of contract.
-
And don't forget the fact that by not signing Watkins to a long term deal that will most likely be north of $15M a year, we will save ourselves at least $8M a year to get more players on top of Gaines and that 2nd rounder. I'm fairly confident that this trade will end up being a net plus.
-
Personally I couldn't stand Marrone but truth be told, he's not a bad coach. Exactly! I've been trying to make this point for the past year. Part of being a GM is selling yourself and clearly he was unable to do that with the Pegula's.

Next week we go up against an elite offense at their home in the Dome. I would be very surprised if we held them under 30 points next week. It will probably be the game that we finally fall off our Defensive Cloud Nine.
