Really liked what Beane had to say today
Magox replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don’t believe the calculation is either between a FA high end DE or Shaq. Shaq I believe they would rather retain than Murphy. I think they try to get a deal done with Shaq unless his asking price is too high and that determination would be made before FA period begins. I think Murphy would be the one on the chopping block if the chips fall in the right direction if the Bills did end up getting a high end FA DE. -

One of the things he said that I picked up on is thst he wasn’t interested in picking up free agents if they were in his view a lateral movement unless he lost a player through FA. That they wanted continuity. I expect them to re-sign the players they want to roll with, pick up some additional competition in certain positions and attempt to make a clear upgrade or two in FA. And continue to hit it out of the park with their drafts. This is the model. -
McDermott and Beane End of Season press conferences 1/7

Yep, I meant Daryl Johnson, the DE. And yes in regards to Harrison but I think he can play both 1 and 3 techniques with the team. -

There is virtually no chance that Josh "falls off a cliff" next year. -
McDermott and Beane End of Season press conferences 1/7

Reading in between the lines from the press conference: 1) Continuity Continuity Continuity - What does that mean? Re-sign as many players as they reasonably can. - It also means that the Pegula's are damn happy with the team and the idea that McD or Beane are anywhere near close to approaching any sort of hot seat are absurd. - Also that continuity is a big reason why their defense is good as it is and that continuity will help out the offense next year. 2) Sounds like to me that based on what they perceive will be Shaq's and Phillips market value that they are more optimistic about retaining Shaq. I think they like Phillips and would like to bring him back but I sensed a bit of doubt that Phillips market value may be higher than they are willing to pay, specially knowing that they have Harrison in the wings. 3) That they are high on Derrick Johnson. Next year I believe he will play a much larger role 4) That they are absolutely sold on Josh Allen. That he will continue to grow and improve! They are very sure of this. This isn't just Front office speak but comes from their true beliefs. 5) That they will upgrade at the WR spot and make it a priority. 6) That if they can make a play for an elite or high end pass rusher, they will attempt to pursue it. 7) That despite all the criticism Ford received, they believe in him. That his play at Tackle with how new he was to it and being a rookie that it wasn't that bad at all. But that they will keep the options open to him moving to guard. 8 ) That their will be a reflection and review period of the coaches own performance. They realize they can get better and need to and will look to improve upon that. 9) Did I say continuity? That the cap space will be to improve upon players but also to re-sign the players they want and to have the flexibility to re-sign players for the future as well. Don't expect the Bills to be near a cash to cap situation, where they spend right up to the cap. -
Don’t waste your breath trying to convince him. Just about every NFL exec knows that McD is anywhere between a decent to top tiered coach. No one lucks into 9 victories, specially with the talent depleted team they fielded that year. Simpletons keep saying the Bills lucked into the playoffs that year. News flash, you have to be good to get yourself into that position to be lucky. Bills took care of business to get those 9 victories for that Cincinnati play to happen. This team hadn’t been to the playoffs in nearly two decades and McD inherits a team where they decide to do almost a complete rebuild and shed off much of the talent they had and he still leads us to 2 playoff appearances in his first 3 years and it’s “luck”??? ? Idiots

Why not? Good for them. But I hope they also have a money manager.

This is like a reunion of half the Allen haters of this board. ?

They will all learn from it. Anyone who disputes that just about on every front that the team is improving is just trolling or has an axe to grind which not coincidentally about half of the posts on this thread fall into the latter category.

I hardly saw any "drops" from Duke. I know there was the endzone one but he only got one hand on that and would have been an incredible catch. There was another on the sideline but the defender made a heck of a play on it. I thought he showed really good strong hands on some of those catches, that one that was called for a penalty where Josh made that ridiculous sideline throw was a fantastic catch by Duke.

If Allen had better talent around him the team would have done better, but Allen wasn't ready this year to take the team all the way or for that matter past the AFC Championship. Next year on the other hand, with better talent I expect Allen will be ready to take this deep into the playoffs. He made great strides this year and I have no doubt that he will continue to only get better. I agree with you about Cooper. His overall numbers look good and his talent is ridiculous. The problem he has is consistency and he fails to show up against the good teams (similar to Watkins but much better). I don't think Cooper is someone who Beane will pursue, even though I do believe there will be an air of desperation on Beane's part to bring in quality play making receivers. I think they go with a decent WR vet and high 1st/2nd round talent.

On the contrary, that play was beautifully schemed and called, the problem was that someone or someone's missed their assignment. There is a chance that play could have been taken for a score, at the very minimum a 15 yard gainer. There was no one else that could have made that tackle and if Knox has that guy blocked, there is another lead blocker to block the next guy who wouldn't even had to be blocked until at least 10 yards down the field.

Well, that blows

WR Pass rusher ( Judon to replace Lorenzo Alexander) LB More depth at DE - another pass rusher If they don't roll the dice with Ford - kick him inside, don't re-sign Spain and get a high quality RT in FA RB - I don't think it needs to be a bruiser. I think Singletary is not a scat back, so I'm good with a quality runner. Doesn't matter what style More depth at DB

Not solely but mainly. He was in the best position from my view.

Milano is a high quality Linebacker, elite LB coverage skills and a decent run stuffer. His weakness is he sometimes misses too many tackles. Even though that last play, whats odd about that play is if Siran or Milano didn't blitz the sack most likely happens. It caused a sandwiching sort of an effect where siran knocked him back and Milano hit him from the other side and straightened him back up. The key is to try to wrap up and drag him down, even though I know when they are flying in at full speed with all the adrenaline they are just trying to get to the QB and hit the crap out of him as opposed to just bringing him down. Again, I think Siran hitting him sort of threw off his tackling technique. I know I know, excuses. And it is and it still doesn't excuse the missed tackle but I am convinced Siran hitting him first caused that to happen.

A) That penalty was BS, played no baring on the play at all. B) If any Bills fans said any such thing that would be horrible and would be more of a reflection of how crappy of a human that they are. C) I hope Cody is being honest about this, there has been a penchant for some professional athletes to embellish details to attempt to garner sympathy after committing acts that hurt their teams. I'm not saying he has done this, I'm just saying I hope that isn't the case here.
-
That was set up so beautifully that I honestly believe Allen would have gotten easily 15+ yards.
-
Depends. If the Bills make the decision to keep Ford on the outside then yes. If not, then I think they let Spain go and Ford moves inside. Personally, the latter would be my choice.
-
The whiffed block/missed assignment by Knox on the run by Allen that would have surely got the Bills into field goal range to win the game.

The offense is trending upwards. Allen will get better. Daboll has to get better. There will be an upgrade of talent on the offense next year. Not to mention that the offense hopefully will have another year of experience together. I think what people have to remember is that the Bills had 9 new starting players on offense, and the two other players are second year players in Allen and Dawkins. Let that sink in for a moment........ With that said, there is nothing out there that tells me that Allen won't continue to get better, his field vision has markedly improved. Daboll, as some other posters have mentioned, his scheming is top notch, which is a big reason why I like him. But his play calling at times is befuddling to say the least. He himself needs to have a review of his play calling this past year and work on it. He has to get better with his play calling. Also, if we are going to run some plays with a full back, then they really should consider getting themselves a mobile pass catching one, Daboll likes to get his FB out on pass patterns and Demarco is not a mobile receiver. On an encouraging note, Motor is looking like a big time RB, he has shown that he can break tackles and catch the ball. Bills should exploit that next year and he should be a minimum 60 reception guy this coming year.

Matt Judon Bills will make him their top FA target to replace Lorax can stop the run, drop back into zone coverage and get after the QB

Go root for another team
-
Not depressed but it still stings and there were so many things that had to go wrong in the last 20 minutes of the game to lose and if any one of those don’t happen good chance we win. Truly a game of missed opportunities. Should have won that game. Looking at the big picture this team is trending upward and will only continue to get better.
