Diggs on the block? Rumor is a 2nd rd pick (year old thread)
Magox replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For starters Golladay has only been in the league three years. His stats over the past two years have been better than Diggs, more TD's and a lot more yards per reception. Don't get me wrong Diggs is a mighty fine player, I would say top 15 in the league which makes him a bonafide #1 WR. Golladay is much bigger, fights for those 50/50 balls about as good as anyone in the league and they are just about the same speed. His ascension and production this early in his career point to him being a top 6-8 WR in the league. I would venture to guess that Golladay would be viewed as the better receiver from most NFL teams. -
Diggs on the block? Rumor is a 2nd rd pick (year old thread)

He's not the prototypical kind of character guy that they normally would go after but I do believe that Beane feels secure enough with the character of the locker room that they could make the move. My hunch is that they won't want to trade a first rounder for him which means they may lose out on him but his contract level, age and production is certainly appealing. I'm thinking they'd be willing to give up a 2nd and a 4th for him. Not sure that would be enough but that's probably the limit that they'd be willing to offer. -
Greg Olsen visiting Bills, Redskins, Seahawks
Magox replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Olsen makes a whole lot of sense. My hunch is that the Bills believe Sweeney and Knox are promising prospects and that Olsen is an instant upgrade over Kroft. And equally as important they value veteran leadership. What better mentor for two young TE’s than a guy like Olsen? The Bills lost Kyle Williams and now Zo and Most likely Gore. I’m pretty sure they see that veteran leadership as a huge asset that has residual effects outside of their on-the-field play. I’m guessing they are really hoping to land Olsen as am I. -
good Joe B review of Allen's 2019 progress (vs 2018)
Magox replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. As I had implied, he's not a finished product but the improvement is undeniable. What I believe is that there is a better than ok chance of him making similar strides in his third year. -

Anyone who has viewed Allen objectively understands that he has made meaningful strides and is clearly trending higher. We aren't talking about a miniscule improvement either, it was a pretty big step forward. And knowing Allen and his eagerness to learn and improve, his great selfless attitude, intelligence and out-of-this-world physical tools, you'd have to be a very foolish person to not believe that he is going to take another big step forward next year. He's going to be borderline Pro bowl level. Take it to the bank. -
Yet the defense is one of the best in the NFL with 2 playoff appearances in the past 3 years and a 2nd year franchise QB who had 9 new starters on the offensive side of the football, with $90M cap space to spare to get more talent. Aside from that, you have a very valid point.
-
It’s certainly possible. We saw the huge jump Lamar had and there have many others that made similar jumps from one year to the next. If Allen continues to improve on his deep ball, processing of the field post snap and improves on his deep ball, guess what? He becomes a pro bowl caliber QB

Some Beane quotes regarding FA in TG's new salary cap artilce
Magox replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its difficult to say who the Bills should cut and retain until after we see what they do after FA and the draft. You just don't cut guys specially if you aren't in a salary cap crunch unless you have a better option to replace them. With that said, I don't see the Bills cutting Star. My view is that the Bills coaching staff and management see him in a more positive light than the fans do. I think him and Harry are the ones they want to roll with at that particular spot. Murphy and Lawson I think is a very fluid situation. Both could be back, maybe just one or maybe even none. I think Darryl Johnson is a player that they are believing can be part of the 4 man DE rotation. Hughes is also I believe to be a lock. That leaves the other two spots and a lot can happen. My hunch is that they will look to pick up a premium pass rusher through FA or use a 1st rounder to get one, possibly even do both. Poyer, I think they want to retain. But I don't think they will look to pay him premium safety dollars, the Bills I believe are very high on Jaquan Johnson. I think they want to keep Poyer not just because he's a solid player but they probably want to send a message to the team that they want to retain core members. But Jaquan could potentially soon become a better player than Poyer and if they believe that to be the case then they may end up having a very difficult decision. They will probably punt on that decision till the very last moment. It's a good problem to have. I know everyone is talking about Kroft being cut, and he very well may be. But I don't see that happening unless two things happen, either they pick up one in FA that they see supplanting him or what I think would be the more likely scenario wait until the time of final cuts before the season begins to dump him if he fails to impress. I think Lee is more likely to be cut due to Sweeney replacing him than Kroft being cut. I could be wrong. Gore most likely retires and if he doesn't I don't see the Bills retaining him. Aside from that, those are the highest profile cuts or non retained players I see on the potential bubble. -
I just think his strengths will show for itself. Often times we tend to pigeon hole people based off of early evaluations like for Viska it's that he is not a polished route runner. That doesn't necessarily mean that he can't get open. He can, he has natural instincts and he tracks the ball extremely well. That is not to be understated, that is an ability that eludes many WR's in this league and the good deep threat guys have this ability. When you combine that with all his other qualities, I think you will see that he will immediately contribute in a variety of ways. And usually guys who have a strong desire to get better, which from everything I have read he is that kind of guy, then usually they tend to continue to get better. Barring injuries, I think he will immediately contribute to whatever team drafts him and he'll continue to get better. I guess we'll find out over the next year.
-
It appears that Viska is becoming a polarizng WR prospect. We'll find out soon enough if he's going to be a legit WR in this league, my bet is all the abilities, skills and athleticism he has will propel him to becoming a high end rookie performer. I think his game is made for the NFL. One of the best YAC prospects over the past few years, great hands, tracks the ball with the best of them, great instincts and seems to have a desire to be better. I think he's going to prove his doubters wrong.
-
I know there are people who don't like him as a first round prospect, I do. I think he and Ruggs are the two most explosive YAC receivers in the draft. If Ruggs falls far enough I hope that the Bills consider trading up for him because his speed and skills are Tyreek Hill like. If not, Viska I hope is seriously considered. Even though he is not a developed route runner I think he has aspects to his receiving game that are underrated. He catches well, has strong hands and is great at tracking the ball. You combine that with his YAC ability, and hopefully a creative usage in WIldcats, jet sweeps, slants and deeper passes you got yourself someone who can immediately contribute to the team. The hopes would be that he continues to develop his route running ability. I'd be happy if the Bills drafted him.
-
Those are the odds at this moment. It can change. With that said, I would be shocked if the Bills didn't get 9 + wins next year.
-
Ok, let me try to spell it out. That is my opinion. I am not tearing anyone down, I am giving my opinion to what I believe to be the case. Somehow you believe by me listing what I believe Allen's positive traits is somehow a dig on Lamar is reaching to say the least. You're barking up the wrong tree.
-
It's a tough argument to make based off of the fact that Lamar has already achieved what QB's want to strive for in regards to his stats and what he was able to accomplish this year. And Josh hasn't done it yet. With that said, I do believe Josh will be the better QB over the long-term. I believe Josh is a much better pure passer than Lamar. Lamar's passing success and he did have lots of success with it is all predicated off the play action and defenses extreme focus to stop the run game allowing plays to be had down the field. I do think there is a book on him now, the Bills showed a way and the Titans replicated it. I don't believe Lamar will be as successful next year as this past year. I could very well be wrong, he totally surprised me with what he accomplished and he may come back even a better version of himself this next coming year, but I just believe that he has a low ceiling for being a pure passer. In other words, if you jump out to a lead against them and knock them off their preferred style I just think he is very limited. Josh, hasn't shown that he can be that pure passer yet. But I think it's in him. He was very raw coming in and in just about every passing metric he has improved and when I look at his intelligence, willingness to learn, desire, passion, physical tools and the fact that he has already shown good improvements, I just believe that he is going to work his tail off on his mechanics, deep ball, ball protection and gain even more experience and will become a borderline pro bowler who will once again lead the team to the playoffs and from my view likely that they win at least one playoff game. I think Josh will end up being the better QB.
-
The answer to your question. Yes! He is one of the best YAC prospect in the draft and not utilizing him with all these creative sort of designs would be negligent. The possibilities with him are salivating and as long as he could develop into a decent route runner my thoughts are that he could be a star in the league. He just has to continue to develop.

Bills potential interest in Pats UFA LG Joe Thuney?
Magox replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't be upset but it doesn't seem logical to me for the Bills to pay THAT much money for a guard. -
I think this is completely doable and I believe it is being considered by the Bills. AJ Green would be a very good risk at around that price level, if healthy he could be a premier WR, a WR that could be hugely beneficial to Josh Allen and the offense. If you go this route it wouldn't preclude the Bills from drafting a WR early on. WR's usually take a little time before they become as efficient as they could be and having AJ Green, Beasley and Brown would all be receivers that would be beneficial to the development of any rookie WR's you bring on to the team. I think Green and drafting a WR in the first two rounds is exactly what they should do and instantly the WR spot becomes a point of strength to the team and would enhance Allen's development and in my view almost surely guarantee a better product on the field. Ngakoue is exactly the type of splash signing I think the Bills are going to make. Reading in between the lines over the past year or so, I think its evident that the Bills want another big time pass rusher and Ngakoue fits the bill. He is a really good edge rusher, nonstop motor and has a penchant for causing turnovers. I think he is the missing piece to this defense to truly becoming the best in the NFL. I think the Bills are looking at a few scenarios this off season, one being getting a vet WR that would instantly be in the top 3 WR's on the team with adding another through the draft. And getting a high quality pass rusher through FA. Another route would be to get a good pass rusher through the draft and going after a high end Tackle in FA. I don't think they will try to address a quality Vet WR, a high end Tackle and Pass rusher through FA. I think most likely its either a high end Tackle or Pass rusher via FA.

Interview with Jordan Palmer on Allen offseason plans
Magox replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've said it all along since the day the Bills drafted him that the sky is the limit with Josh Allen. He has the intelligence, heart, passion, work ethic, athleticism and physical throwing tools to be one of the best. He was a raw prospect coming in and he wasn't as polished as most of the high pedigree NFL QB's when they came into the league. I have very little doubt, barring injury that he will come back a better version of himself this next year. I also agree with Jordan Palmer in that Josh Allen will be much improved with his deep ball. Josh Allen will be a borderline pro bowl QB next year and lead to the team to the playoffs with at least one playoff win. -
Prospect Watch: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU

I'm not sure where you are getting this from but towards the end of the season Devin Singletary had the most carries of 20+ yard runs in the league per carry avg. in the NFL. -
2020 top 50 prospects #1 - Daniel Jeremiah
Magox replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ruggs and Shenault both aren't the most polished of receivers but they have crazy YAC ability. Shenault has out of this world speed, strength and athleticism and if used creatively enough he doesn't have to be relied on heavily initially to get lots of catches while he is learning his route running skills. If the Bills were to pick up a guy like Greene in FA, who would immediately be a high quality route runner along with Brown and Beasley, then you could use Shenault in the McKenzie sort of role but a little more expanded. The possibilities with Shenault are endless, you could have him in the backfield on plays, Jet sweeps, screens, quick hitters and vertical routes. There are plenty of ways to use him while he becomes a more polished WR. I think if used properly he could be dynamite for this team. -

Ruggs or Shenault! I want speed, explosiveness and YAC ability. These are arguably the two best YAC prospects in the draft. -
I really don't have a good feel for who they will get but I do believe they will: A) Make somewhat of a splash and get an Edge Rusher. I expect that this position will be their marquee signing. B) A veteran WR who would immediately be one of the top three WR's on the team C) A running back that will replace Gore D) More depth at DB to compete for starting spot against Levi E) a Defensive tackle to replace what I expect the departure of Jordan Phillips F) That they will re-sign Shaq Lawson for a 4 year $34 million a year contract G) Cut Murphy In the draft: A) Draft a WR that has dynamic YAC ability and that would compete for major playing time early on. B) Draft a DE and DT C) Draft a RB D) Draft DB's E) Draft a LB And even though I fully expect Beane to very aware of the cap for the future, I do not believe for one second that he will take a cautious approach. I think he understands that for many organizations the best time to make a run for a super bowl are once you found your Franchise QB (which we have) and to surround the talent within that rookie contract period which is 5 years. This is going into year 3, I expect them to take advantage of this window that they have. Bank on it

Brandon Beane interview from the Senior Bowl 1-21
Magox replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This FA is setting up to be one of the best years in a long time for picking up an edge rusher. I think that is where it will be addressed.
