Professional sports are not a venue where you can flip a switch and turn on quality play because you got the message and are finally going to try hard. It takes long periods of sacrifice and commitment to working on your game and improving. I think that ship has sailed for Benjamin.

The offense was a machine in those years, especially in camp. I remember reading report after report about that Kelly was on fire and how "the ball never hit the ground" during practice.

Bills 2017 Draft - It Might Be Really Good
vincec replied to BillsfaninSB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At this point it looks like an average draft to me. The Bills got two solid starters - White and Milano and two borderline starters- Dawkins and Jones. Now if Dawkins or Jones can develop into solid starters then it would improve in my mind. If they both become solid starters, then it's a great draft. -
It's so hard to break teams down by position group and get an accurate reading of their overall quality. So much depends on cohesion and execution as a team. That's where the Patriots excel. They have great coaching, great leadership, team first players and experience at QB so that the whole is always more than the sum of their parts.

Would have been better to wait until halftime of game 2.

As a kid playing in the park, this was our signature TD celebration. Not just showing up late but jogging over from 5 yards away while someone else made the play and then celebrating like they did something. Marcel Dareus comes to mind.

I'm concerned that Beasley's skill set isn't going to jive with Allen's. I think to take advantage of a guy like Beasley you need a QB to make quick, correct reads and accurate throws with touch. Not saying that Allen can't eventually do that but it certainly doesn't look like the strong point of his game right now.

Two Reason For Hope No One Is Talking About.
vincec replied to Flip Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can see how a small, shifty RB and a fast TE could look good playing without contact. Let's see how they look when the hitting starts and they have to block, break away from physical coverage, etc. I'm not saying that they won't be successful in the NFL but I suspect that there will be an adjustment period for both of them. -
Two Reason For Hope No One Is Talking About.

That was part of the old Jimmy Johnson system: fast as heck playmakers at LB and DB that can't be run against because your DL is dominating (and deep so that they can't be worn down.) The Bills DL isn't there yet but they're working on it. -
NFL.com ranks Top 25 QB's of All Time: Jim Kelly #21
vincec replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Steve Young is too low. He's definitely top 10 and arguably top 5, ahead of Brees, IMO. The only think he did wrong was backup Montana for the early part of his career. This not only delayed his career as a starter, and thus reduced his opportunity to rack up trophies, stats and awards, but it also cast a shadow over his achievements and abilities which skewed people's perspective as to how great they really were. -
This is exactly true. I remember the joyous reactions of many black people after the verdict and didn't for a second get the impression that they were happy because an innocent man was justly acquitted. They were celebrating the fact that a corrupt system, and the LAPD in particular, took one right between the eyes. This was a masterful performance by Cochran.

I disagree. I think that people spend far too much time looking for and lamenting over a problem's "roots." Whether it's what someone did to you or your parents, how you grew up, where you grew up, some bad stroke of luck, a poor decision, ... whatever. Life is unfair. Everyone has problems. Everyone has to face adversity. It's how we choose to react to them in the present that determines how things will go in the future. Understanding the past can be helpful if it gives you an insight as to how you can react better now (like perhaps not prescribing painkillers so easily for injuries in the future), but using it as an excuse or a justification for anything is really counterproductive to improving situations. IMO, of course.

Top 20 Superbowl Era Coaches - Ranking Index
vincec replied to MJS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Especially since Walsh basically changed the way the game is played on offense. So, beyond his record as a winner, his impact on the game really should make him top 5 IMO. But it’s a fine point. Um, what? i think you’d better consult some Packer fans before you have Mike McCarthy ahead of Lombardi. -

Expect to see a different Trent Murphy in 2019
vincec replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let me put it this way- he can't really contribute any less than last season, can he? So any improvement is a bonus. -
Ed Oliver 2019 Sack Total; Over / Under 9
vincec replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Oliver gets 9 sacks as a rookie DT in a rotational system then I'll be amazed. -
Marquis Goodwin Wants to Compete in 2020 Olympics
vincec replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wish him well but this is kind of the way I feel too. Other Olympic hopefuls have been training for their sports all that time. His chances are pretty slim, IMO.
