I had a full ride for Cal but hurt my shoulder and lost it. Oh wait, that wasnt me. I have played baseball most of my life, and I cant count the number of people I have encountered who claim to have had a full scholarship and hurt their shoulder before they attended. Then you look at their mechanics on a ballfield and determine there is no way this individual even started on his high school varsity team. football? Tons of sandlot football, 2 years of little league (didnt like it) and recreational flag football in college. Looking back at it, I think I could have been a good high school HB.

If my team went to a fluorescent color scheme, i dont think i could support them -
I know it wont happen, but the owners (and players) should do stuff that may cost some short-term revenue (such as the Orioles selling $2 tickets in September)... in exchange for things that will make the league and sport appealing long-term into new generations. I think and fear that baseball is heading toward the way of Horse Racing and Boxing within 50 years.

In that case, the majority of the season in the American League would have been rendered pretty meaningless for everyone not in Houston, Minnesota and 80% of NYC. The Braves and Dodgers would have also been running the NL Divisions with little resistance. As an Indians fan, I am satisfied that the season came down to the final weekend, even though they didnt qualify. I have been there when they are obviously out by May and June and it sucks. With so many entertainment options, what was good in 1980 is not feasible today. Nostalgia loves 24 or 26 teams and actual 'pennant races'. In reality, it would make for a boring league in present-day.

Wild card game is great IMO. It also opens up a lot of cool scenarios of 1-off tiebreaker games. However, IMO, MLB and baseball need to change course. They are losing fans, and the ones they do have are aging. MLB also has a major 'tanking' problem, where many teams just let their bottom fall out if they arent going to compete to be in the top 5 in each league. If I was God of sports and could act on a whim (other than establishing a full-on promotion/relegation system), I would move toward decreasing the season to 140-ish games, increase the playoff field, and re-align the league (dont know, either 4 divisions or 8 divisions). 16 teams make the playoffs and have all Best-Of-7 Series. People almost unanimously love playoff baseball. They don't like the Royals and Orioles in September (or even July). This season, assuming a 'conference' alignment, you would have: Rangers vs Astros Red Sox vs Yankees Twins vs Indians A's vs Rays and Cubs vs Dodgers Braves vs Diamond Backs Nationals vs Mets Cardinals vs Brewers. Thats a hell of a 1st round

Josh Allen in concussion protocol: Update cleared 10/5
May Day 10 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. That hit is bound to happen. Shelf-lives of running backs and WRs are short. Quarterbacks are tough to get. They gave up a lot of capital to get Allen. You want him to have a solid 15 year career missing a minimum number of games. As frustrating as it is, Brady is an absolute jedi at 'legally grounding' the football, and taking the fewest number of hits. These hits add up too... and I mentioned it here or elsewhere. if it isnt a concussion, itll be a shoulder separation, knee ligament, collar bone, ribs, etc... Cant keep doing this. A running QB is not sustainable. -

Tom Brady is 100% correct -
Bill Belichick Defends Jones Hit on Josh Allen!
May Day 10 replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What do we want Belichick to say? The league gave their guidelines and Belichick said that is the reality and they are going to move on with those guidelines. He is also going to defend his player, we would expect McDermott to do the same -
Did Jonathan Jones purposely take out Josh Allen?
May Day 10 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont believe it was completely intentional and malicious. Moreso careless. Should have been penalized and probably ejected. Those are textbook what the NFL is trying to eliminate. -
Tom Brady looks and sounds “checked out” to me

Sounds like an honest take on a frustrating afternoon, but ended with them winning. -
Post Game Thread Bills vs Pats*
May Day 10 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was the best the Bills have played the Pats since the 2003 31-0 game. I know "W" is what counts and all... but this team is playing the long game. It was generally thought that the Bills arent "yet" at the Pats' level... but they were the better team, by a lot. The Pats' O was completely hapless. They could do nothing. The Bills O actually wasnt terrible. Just giveaways which were devastating, but they are preventable/fixable. If Hauschka hits that field goal at the end of the half, the Bills win. And yes, the hit on Allen was upsetting... as is the offsetting penalty standard. However, the Bills/Allen cant keep going out there and risking hits. If its not concussions, itll be a blown knee. If not that, separated shoulder, if not that, Collarbone. These hits and injuries take a toll. Look at Brady. He is a master at taking as little contact as possible. It is smart. We need a QB who can win a game with his arm and mind. If there is an opening, take it and run, but make sure you slide or get out of bounds. -
Have You Started To Lose Faith in Josh Allen?
May Day 10 replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Optics on allen plainly show he is a large cut above any of the previous qbs they have trotted out there since kelly. The patriots defense is talented and has a mastermind Taking hits though is going to make a short career -
The last MVP baseball was a video game classic. Always mentioned as one of the best sports games ever released. 2K made awful, awful MLB games. The Show is pretty darn good though, but people who prefer XBOX are out of luck. EA makes really good games. Their engine is good, and presentation for the most part is excellent. My biggest beef with EA is the resources put into online gameplay and micropurchases. I really dont want to or have a time for Be A Pro. I also cant get into the "Ultimate Team" modes. I dont have the time investment, and do not want to pay money just to compete..... Those things all time out in a year anyway when the next game comes out. It seems their Franchise modes and offline play has stagnated, and in some cases has regressed. NCAA had it really good. I read an article recently that was about their development team. All the attention from management would be on the pro sports and FIFA. They were pretty free to do and try anything they wanted and what they felt made a good game. ah, here it is https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2847267-the-cult-of-ncaa-football-how-eas-cfb-series-has-lived-on-despite-cancellation

What will happen if the Bills do win this weekend
May Day 10 replied to Billsfanatixs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was going to say something like this... The Bills have not been relevant for 20-ish years. When they have had their hot starts, they have gotten press, but that is few and far between. When they stole a playoff spot in 2017, they got a lot of coverage/love. They haven't had anything real interesting to talk about. 98% of the time, they have been on the outside looking in, hoping to hang onto the 'in the hunt' graphic inclusion. They haven't even managed to get a top draft pick/QB that garners a lot of attention. -
Lots of good tips I would say the #1 rule of law is to park on the side of the stadium that you are leaving. So you want the North side. Along Southwestern is best, that is what I do. When I leave, I go E/N on Southwestern to hightail it out. I have gone North on Abbot with mega-success as well. 2nd most important thing is get to your car/vehicle on the early-side Hustle to your car when you decide to leave. Last week, we watched the interception, celebration, then literally ran to our car. Was home in no time. It is really not too bad getting out of there if you are decisive about it. Where you get stuck is when you saunter to your car in the masses.... everyone is leaving the lot at once, the main road is plugged up, AND you have pedestrians constantly flowing in front of the driveway of the parking lot.

What will happen if the Bills do win this weekend
May Day 10 replied to Billsfanatixs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it would. All these sports entertainment entities fill up 168 hours a week with NFL talk. People love to hear about a potential demise of the Patriots. If a young buck Josh Allen beats them to get to 4-0..... and quite possibly remain undefeated over the next 3+ weeks after this.... we will hear plenty of that talk. I'm not saying it is necessarily accurate, but the Bills would be hyped. -
EA's NCAA football game was a masterpiece IMO. I agree that it needs to come back... as well as hoops. I google news every month or so to see if there is any movement. I will say... that I believe we may be past the halfway point. We are 6 years since release. I would bet that we get a game before 2025. I feel like this student athlete issue will settle out by then and the game will quickly follow. There is money to be made.

Howard simon doesnt play for or coach the bills. He isnt "conceding" anything. He and jeremy white have said that until proven otherwise, they count both new england games as losses. I dont think that is an unreasonable stance. The Bills have won like 3 of their last 40 games against them in the past 20 years. Some of these games, especially at home, turn into an NFL version of the "Great White Hype" movie. We work ourselves up, only to get KOed in convincing fashion. White and Simon (who are just entertainers) have agreed to not fall for it. Its not like their show is dedicated to putting the bills down. They predict the bills' season on the regular and are very optimistic. I think Simon has them at 12-4 as of this week. I don't want to hear a brainless fred smerlas equivalent cheerlead into perpetuity

Patriots WR Julian Edelman (rib) returns to practice

I used to pray that Richmond Webb would play -
1987 was a huge departure from 1986 and previous. Kelly seemed to begin to assert himself and the team was competitive. 1988 was a nice surprise, and I guess they arrived... but the Bills were different than the 'run'. They did it by defense. They were good, but from what I recall, it didnt really feel like they could beat the Bengals, 49ers, or Bears that season. However, we did know that it was a young team and we had some good seasons ahead. I guess it feels like 87-88 because they are showing signs, look good, but not quite polished and in the top 3-5 teams in the league territory. They could potentially make a run like 1988. If they can beat the Pats, I think we can legitimately talk about a playoff bye as a possibility as we look at the schedule.

What will happen if the Bills do win this weekend
May Day 10 replied to Billsfanatixs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My friends and I were talking about this yesterday. Will this ever happen again? And would this game be the one that does it? If this were December and the Bills clinched the Division with a win, would fans storm the field? Is it impossible to happen in 2019?
