Here's to you, Tyrell "Earnie" Shavers. -
Questions I thought I’d never be asked for $200, Alex ……

It's possible, but I wouldn't be too sure about that.

Tyrell Shavers makes initial 53 man roster

I’m not sure if they’re necessarily an outlier here, but observing a nice little trend of this regime being able to develop talent on the practice squad. Cam Lewis (19-21), Ja’Marcus Ingram (22-23) and Tyrell Shavers (23-24) are examples of guys who have now spent multiple years on the Bills practice squad only to break through and make the 53-man roster. Alec Anderson and Ryan Van Demark spent all of 2022 on the Practice Squad. It’s what it is there for, would be very curious what this looks like for other teams since the size increases to 16 in 2020. EDIT: I’m going to dig into this out of personal curiosity. That being said, a quick glance at practice squads from 2020 - 2024 tells me that what the Bills have done with Lewis, Ingram and Shavers is actually somewhat unique. -
His history would suggest it's a practice squad offer....

If it is a 53 man roster signing, i'd look at Cam Lewis as the guy out the door to make room. WR and Safety are the only spots where we're carrying more than the minimum. And if they feel good about Jordan Hancock stepping in right away and filling that backup Hybrid Safety/Nickel (which from what he's shown is likely) and Franklin taking his spot on Special Teams - cutting him would also save 1.76m on the Cap.

I do agree that it looks like he's going to the 53. However, we did play this game a couple days ago with Jordan Phillips. And like Phillips, Franklin is a vested veteran (I actually made the mistake of thinking he wasn't in another post) - that is not subjected to Waivers. So it could be a Practice Squad signing. If it is a 53 signing, I'd look at WR or Safety to make room for him. Those are the only spots on the roster where we're carrying more than the minimum. Cam Lewis could be the guy out if they feel good about Jordan Hancock stepping in right away and filling that backup Hybrid Safety/Nickel and Franklin taking his spot on Special Teams. Cutting him would also save 1.75m on the Cap. -

That's what I'm pinning my hopes on. I'm sure front offices saw VanDemark against the chiefs and Anderson in his year as 6th OL. Grable is concerning. He sounded like a potential starter, until this long recovery concussion. -
Holy smokes this season of hard knocks has been the most boring ever.

I feel like they show more on embedded than they are allowing HBO to show 😂

At this point it would honestly be funny if Beane just starts signing as many former panthers as possible just to mess with people.

This! 90% of this board guessed the top 48-50 guys. 18 game schedule, 2 bye weeks, no preseason games! -

This is going to come off a little hot and I'm not singling you out, as I saw many posters doing this with their 53 predictions. But if you're the type of person who is surprised that Codrington made it, you're also probably the type of person that completely ignores Special Teams when putting a Roster together amd focuses 100% on what a player brings in their positional grouping on Offense and Defense. Year in and year out, they've shown that is not how this regime operates. On multiple roster projections, I saw people cut all of the Returners we used in Training Camp and the Pre-Season. When i'd ask who the Returner is, they'd say this person or that person can handle it. Basically with a "just put someone back there, it doesn't matter" sort of mentality. And again, that's just not how they do things. When no one impressed in last year's Return competition, they went out and trade for, and rostered Brandon Codrington for the job. And that was when the Return game was marginal at best. This year, there's actually going to be Returns and the Return game has added importance. There's no way they were just going to throw Ty Johnson back there and call it a day. A roster spot was going to be given to the winner of the competition between Codrington and Shenault - who handled pretty much all of the returns in Training Camp and the Pre-Season. -
It never ends....is this organization even capable of evaluating talent outside of Carolina?
