If more teams copy what Atl did (play man on our WRs and rush 5 or 6 most downs) thinking this is (and it is) the way to stop the passing game, ten yes, time for Josh to break the pocket and take off more. Just as he did in the early years before teams switched to the deep zone coverage (and thereby took both the long ball and Josh scrambles away-- which forced the Bills to become more of a running, ball control team).

Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?
Kirby Jackson replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ve always like Meyers and think he’s a good receiver. He’d be a really good number 2. You need another 400-500 yard receiver? He’s going to get you 800-900. You need a 1100-1200 yard receiver? He’s going to get you 800-900. Lol, he feels like the “Final Boss of JAG WRs.” He is the “Thanos of Everybody Eats.” 🤣🤣 If you were to take the top 32ish WRs in the NFL off the board and then start ranking guys 33 to last, he would be near the top of the list (and all other Bills WRs would check in after him). -
Which is a huge problem to correct at this point in the year if Pegula is thinking about pulling the plug on Beane and McD. It would probably come in January, like he did before. Realistically, we need two offseasons to correct this lack of talent and change schemes to something that works while also changing coaching staffs and all of that Noise. Josh would be like 33 if that happens so you (in theory) have another small Super Bowl window with Josh in his mid thirties before it slams shut.

Two things can be true. Yes Beane has woefully neglected the Wide Receiver position, besides the Diggs trade 5 years ago. I’m far from the only one, that wants us to get Josh great WRs. Watch the All 22, even through poor schemes, WRs got open. Brady was unprepared for the Falcons. We know the Falcons blitz more than any other team. You think Joe would have planned for it. Defense got pummeled in the first half. Then Bobby made adjustments, and our D shut down the Falcons in the second half. Brady didn’t make any adjustments, besides taking Cook out of the game the last 9 minutes. Bills had 3 chances to tie the game. The first play, James gained 4 yards. And that was the end for Cook. ***** inexcusable! ***** Brady’s “cute” game plans! Brady cannot scheme WRs open, like most every other Coordinator. In short- Beane has neglected the offense. Brady is incompetent imo

Why doesn't McDermott call the Defensive plays full time??
machine gun kelly replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, the answer he gave yesterday was he didn’t want to damage his confidence as he’s only in his second year as a DC. To me, you keep him as the DC, but for now McD calls the plays. Let Babich continue to learn from him. Something has to stop the bleeding. So bottom line is I agree with the guys on the board that believe he should assume play calling. -
I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that having decent wideouts just might help. might help.

Part of the script. They know the flags flew in last few games to change the betting

The only move the Bills will make is to promote Gabe Davis from the practice squad, sadly. -
If Sean McDermott and Marv Levy switched era’s

Levy was in 4 super bowls by now and can you imagine marv benching Thomas at critical points in the game? -

Bills are Super Bowl Favorites

I saw the ESPN power ranking and I wondered if they had watched their own telecast. We could have had McConkey but decided a slow, jump ball guy would be a better fit. -
How much money and draft capital will Beane pour into a defense that stinks? Put some money into receiving talent for our MVP quarterback!!! They have wasted him!!!

To me it’s find a restructure, and trade for Douglas, and Olave on offense. We need separation on offense. Moore, and Palmer if healed up in 2 weeks should be on the field, and Coleman reserved for red zone only. He did absolutely nothing on MNF. Douglas is patchwork until Hairston can get out there. Tre has to get sent to the practice squad. -
Yea I called that one in the GDT. I don't know why Josh came off it. A combination of that defense (against a DC who has caused him issues before) and a lack of trust in almost everything going on around him. The OL didn't have a good day and I think Josh is fed up of his receivers at this point. Even when he is escaping and keeping plays alive STILL nobody is getting open. Time and time and time again that has happened over the last 3 or 4 weeks. Plays where the past couple of years Josh has got out and made something happen and he is getting out, has his eyes downfield, finding nothing and is just having to scamper out of bounds for 3 or 4 yards.

This issue has been discussed before… it’s always better to defer and “double dip” if possible. The only reason this is still an issue here is because our defense, seemingly, always gives up an opening drive score! So I ask, would it be better to take the ball and score first. Then let the other team score. And be 7-7. Or is it better the let them score first, then we score. And be 7-7. ..but in the second scenario, we’re assured to get the ball to start the 3rd quarter. You just have to accept the fact that our opponents will score on their opening drive. It’s just part of the game plan. I’m not sure why? But it sure seems to be.
-
No. Not even close. The main issue is talent at the skill positions. 100%. The only real criticism I'd make of Brady is that I think the last two weeks he has taken the ball out of James Cook's hands way too much. The offense works when James cooks. It works much less well when it becomes reliant on receivers to get open. This actually looks a LOT like the Tom Brady offense his final year in New England. That was not on Josh McDaniels and this is not on Joe Brady. Can you nitpick at a play call here and there? Yep, you can. I didn't like the sweep vs New England because it was early and we were moving. I wasn't delighted they called it vs the Falcons either, but in that game it was desperation because we could not move the football. Allen didn't play very well in Atlanta (Jeff Ullbrich always seems to cause him issues) but it isn't on Josh either. The main problem with the offense is Brandon Beane.

The team that included National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, who stated: "Th e Middle East is quieter today than it has been in two decades." He provided that prescient brilliance exactly one week before the Oct massacre and ensuing two year conflict, during which time the Iranians rearmed themselves, Hamas and the Houthis. What an amazing and inspiring demonstration of effective capability.

Here is my dream. In rough order of importance: We add a WR that opposing safeties are concerned about. It doesn't necessarily need to be a superstar #1 WR. It can be a burner like Rashid Shaheed who is a threat to take the top off of a defense with his speed and therefore opposing safeties will shade towards him and try to stay deeper than him. We need a WR who can occupy two defenders in other words. What this accomplishes: More consistent running room for Cook More space for Shahir and Kincaid to operate in the middle of the field More predictable defensive alignments generally Hairston is an immediate impact starter once he completes rehab and goes through a mini training camp. Similar to #1, this team desperately needs an injection of talent and speed. (As things currently stand, the Patriots and Falcons have as much talent as the Bills outside of QB.) We need Hairston to be a gem, a hit first-round draft pick. When he returns, he needs to at least be a great CB2 and ideally (this is my dream, remember?), he would be like Quinyon Mitchell last season, a rookie corner that plays like a Pro Bowler and can be a CB1. What this accomplishes: Benford can become a great CB2, which arguably is his best usage, and we have two very reliable corners. The LBs stay unusually healthy the rest of the season (and return to form in some cases). This is a dream, remember? In my dream, Milano and Bernard stay healthy and play well to complement Shaq Thompson, who has already been playing well. Because of the lack of depth at LB, we do still need to use the 4-2-5 alignment a lot (while mixing in 4-3) in order to manage the snap count for those three guys and keep them healthy. A healthy trio of LBs accomplishes: Chemistry with the D-line. If they're not in and out of the lineup all the time, they'll develop the run fit and coverage fit behind the D-line that has been sorely missing. A healthy Milano, Bernard, and Shaq can actually make plays on the ball. If they manage to stay on the field together, they'll start to generate turnovers again for this defense, and they'll gain chemistry with each other. Continued improvement and emergence from Kincaid. In my dream, these improvements build off each other. If the Bills manage to get a burner that draws safety attention, then Kincaid should begin to dominate in the middle and deep middle . In terms of targets, I would like to see Kincaid be option #1, Shakir option #2, Shaheed option #3, Cook option #4 (I agree that we should use him in the passing game), and Palmer when he returns option #5. That receiving corps doesn't necessarily leave opponents shaking in their boots, but combined with a great rushing attack and Josh Allen, it'll be good enough for the consistent 30 pts/gm that we had gotten used to. More bread and butter from Joe Brady, less democracy. Again, these things build off each other. If we can get that burner on the outside to open up space underneath, then Brady needs to up the snap count of Kincaid and let HIM eat. Likewise, Brady can throw away some of the cutesie pie plays involving just-another-guy talents, e.g. jet sweep to Knox. With the safeties lifted, let Cook eat lots of carries. With space in the middle, Kincaid and Shakir should be targeted often as they actually separate from their matchups. Keep it bread and butter and feed those main guys, and take your deep shots with Shaheed so the defense continues to respect that aspect. Offense is fixed. Bishop improves a lot, and Rapp is replaced either internally or by trade. Again, it's my dream. With Bishop, we just have to let it play out. We don't have enough assets to plug every single hole with good players. I've already used some assets to get Shaheed here, and since Bishop has good physical tools (which he flashed when he made that INT against the Saints), I'll just dream that he puts it all together and starts playing well at safety. Rapp, on the other hand, doesn't have that kind of upside and needs to be replaced. Maybe Poyer can roll back the years and play a decent strong safety, or we have to use some other assets to get a good player in there. For anyone wondering about McBeane, I'm not going to fire them midseason where it will cause chaos and be hard to find good replacements.
