Training Camp News - Around the League version

Ya I don't get it either. My only guess is a lot of people just watch him play against the Bills and he tends to struggle those games lol. Because I really don't get how you can watch a large sample size from Tua and come away thinking the guy sucks . -
So, we’ll put you down as not since high school.

When I moved into my current home, i continued to get mail from the previous owner and a few others that may have been previous owners as well. I would write "return to sender" with additional comments like "individual no longer resident." They would pick up the mail and then redeliver them a day or two later. I even put one of those new resident cards in the mailbox, but the mail continued. It was a lot. So I decided to save it all and after a few weeks, took a good sized box with all the mail to the post office. They collected it and thanked me for bringing it in. Two days later there was a post office tote with all the mail sitting in front of my door. I took the tote back which solved the current problem, but the mail continued. Now I just throw it away.

Tua is a good QB, and arguably very good based on the numbers (especially QBR, passer rating, and wins-losses). His sack percentage isn't bad either. The hatred of his game here is a bit laughable: -
Beane interview this morning had a way different tenor than I was expecting based on Tom Pellissero’s reporting. Not that it was bad blood or anything, but Beane sounded like a guy unmoved off his position and put this negotiation in the timeframe of “if it doesn’t get done before the season, it doesn’t get done”…. Which I’m not sure how compatible that is with Cook’s sudden vibe shift.

Fine have fun in Miami.

Fair-For the record I am not trying to argue that Tua is a great QB. My overall argument is Miami isn't as much as a joke as a lot of us think. Because if their starting QB is healthy , they easily have 10 wins last year IMO and make the playoffs -
Playing with kid Gloves made Brady’s job immeasurably easier

Exactly. Does Cook really care which billionaire is cutting him a check? I sure wouldn't...

Montana also played in a much harder era of football where the rules were not being rolled out yet to benefit the passing game. Defenders could be a lot more physical not just with the QB's but with the WR's too. And BB was a defensive genius, that also allowed him to understand the opponents defense's better than anyone as well and that impacted a LOT what they did on offense. So don't discount BB's offensive impact either. Brady also had arguably the greatest TE of all time on his team too. This has no relevancy to who was better - it just shows who had the better or worse QB replace them. Brady should be acknowledged as the GOAT - Longevity and top level success in his 40's put Tom in the drivers seat for the GOAT title. But at the time Joe retired, he had as many SB wins (and no losses) as Tom did except Tom had multiple SB losses as well. There is a difference in being the GOAT (which is a career resume title) and being the "best" QB to ever play (which is a talent/ability title). Joe had his body break down and betray him preventing him from the same longevity as Tom, so he cant compete on the career long resume aspect of the GOAT conversation, which is where Tom clearly pulls away in the convo. But who was really the best QB in their prime on the field? That is a legit question and debate. Retirement age - Who is the GOAT if Brady had retired the same age as Joe? I would say Joe is probably the more popular pick as he had just as many SB rings and was undefeated in the SB with Brady having 2 losses. And at that time, Joe was still the more widely considered GOAT. Brady pulled away with all the incredible success he continued to have past that age and into his 40's. What would happen if Tom and Joe swapped places? Does Tom's resume get better or worse? I would say most likely worse both in longevity (due to the physicality) and production (due to the tougher rules). Does Joe's resume get better or worse playing in the modern era with rules to protect QB's and open up the passing game? I would say most likely better both in longevity (his body likely lasts longer than his did) and production (due to softer and easier passing rules So - no disagreement that Brady has earned GOAT recognition and title because of his high level play for as long as he was able to do it - but that doesn't necessarily mean he was still the "best" QB of the two in their respective primes on a football field on any given Sunday. That I think is very much a legitimate debate between the two.

Cook is almost dead to me. He can recover this week if he ends this ridiculous hold in business. I hoped Cook would piss and moan about his contract, but at the same time be a stand up guy and play balls to the wall in a contract year. It's to his long term benefit to do so. But this hold in business is just a hold out with lipstick on it. If the Bills allow it to continue it is a bad example for other players. Cook's hold in buffoonery is, as they say in the military, conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline (UCMJ Article 134): actions that undermine the effectiveness and morale of a military unit, often by violating established customs, rules, or standards of behavior. Cook should attend practice wearing the uniform of the day and doing drills on the field with his teammates. If he doesn't, he should be told to stay home. He's a distraction and bad example.

I do actually watch a fair amount of their games. Jets, and Patriots* too. We do have a difference of opinion here, but I don't actually think we're that far apart. The team being lost without Tua, and Miami having a culture problem aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, one could make the argument that the former is a symptom of the latter. -
Shakir to miss the next 5 weeks due high ankle sprain
warrior9 replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
As a few others have said, yes, they can linger if done mid season because you can't take 4-6 weeks off from practicing / playing in games. He has that ability to do so now and not push it. He'll be fine and this shouldn't linger. -
His agent would (should) laugh and hang up on you. Why would he take that when he could get $15M base and up to $17-20M in incentives elsewhere? You guys are expecting him to leave generational wealth on the table when this is likely his ONE shot to get paid, while the league and owners make plenty more for doing nothing. 4 years/$60M, $40M guaranteed. Throw a void year on the end and its instantly back down to $12M/yr ($8M/yr guaranteed) for the team. Make it an extension and now its essentially 5/$65M, with the void 6/$65... less than $11M average. Cap is booming with streaming revenue. It's easy to get done where Cook wants to be and have both sides happy.
-
Give him $12M a year guaranteed, with incentives that can make up 3M more. Win-win.
-
Agree with everything... other than "this is the business side of the game". There's literally no other side than the business side. Absolutely don't blame him for trying to get paid.
-
He'd absolutely get it on the open market. The "bad influence" so far has been... show up to camp, participate fully, hasnt said a single thing in the media outside of one comment on someone elses post. Yall need to build a bridge and get over it. This is the business side of the game. Our situation is better than every other teams' negotiations.
-
I think I read from another poster and I agree... to me this is a clear change in stance... why though... well sounds like they are talking and JC is putting a stake in the ground... so either they get this done soon... or it kinda blows up... but to me something is happening on this front that will cause a definitive direction.... deal or acrimony.... quite interested to see how this plays out... but at least he wont get hurt on the bike... take up the rubber mats though... LOL

Have you ever had to call 911 for anything?
17islongenough replied to BillsPride12's topic in Off the Wall
I called when I was a kid because I thought my dad dad. He was just sleeping. The cops showed up and I was naked. But since then no.
