It's not about that chart it's about getting what we want from them. They have to buy more X from us and do other things that we are not privy to. They need to beef up military, they are way behind on what they should be spending. They have to do whatever we tell them and apparently they bent the knee already
-
Isn't that true for any player that we want?
-
This is very cool and impressive. The architecture of Buffalo is severely underrated by those who are not aware
-
Wait. So do you want him or not? I mean, your original post reads kind of as if you do, but also that you don't? Now this post states you do? I'm now confused. And you don't bring people in that have consistent miscommunication with your QB after 4 years of playing with said QB

Is there an NFL team with a weaker WR group than the Bills?
billsfan89 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Problem is the Bills in order to accommodate signing DK would have not only had to have given up a 2nd plus a late pick at minimum would also likely not have been able to sign many if any significant defensive free agents. I get that the Bills wouldn't have signed Palmer but he's only accounting for about 27.5% of what DK is making, probably wouldn't have been able to manage the Bosa or Hoecht signings as an example. -
Nobody is going to offer him more than what Jacksonville is on the hook for. He will sign for the vet minimum and continue to collect the remainder of his pay from Jacksonville. He has complete control over where he wants to go. He can choose to chase a title as a role player or try to find a spot on a team that needs him to be a WR2/3 in hopes that he can get enough receptions and stats to get another deal down the road.
-
He's still around (87). His son (Jr.) is the PR spokesman for Erie county
-
Whoever performs the worst from Samuel, Moore or Davis. Or an injury happens and everyone is retained. That simple.
-
He will play for the vet minimum this year. His Jags contract has offset language. That means every dollar over the minimum that someone else wants to pay a dollar comes off the Jags deal. There is no incentive, at all, to play for more than the minimum. Gabe makes no more money.
-
Been talked about to death in the Gabe thread. Many fans (like myself) don't mind kicking the tires on a vet minimum in camp, but he's not likely to be a difference maker as he wasn't capable of being a WR2 when he was here. Some fans just don't think he has anything and isn't even worth a 90 man roster spot. Personally given that I don't think a 90 man roster spot is that valuable why not kick the tires?

Yes, they did the smart cap thing and smart way to run a franchise. But I would have sacrificed one D slot this season and a next season pick to bring in DK. The level he could elevate the offense, would have made a huge difference. He would have been Allens Kelcie. And made the O near un-stopable. Not saying they can't get it down with what we got. I have a feeling Moore is going to have a good year. And Keon will continue to improve. -
No different than why they bring any min vet in after the draft competition. A lot of potential in the room without a lot of production.
-
Got it. I had to re-read it. Oddly worded but I understand now.

I've heard some of the same speculation, and I'm with you on Carter. From the way Beane was talking in post-draft, it sounds like Carter is going to "move" to primarily 1tech instead of primarily 3tech. Sanders and Ogunjobi are primarily 3techs, per Beane. Walker is a little different in that he played more 3tech in college but it sounds like the Bills want him to play more 1tech for them, maybe. But in any case, they need at least 2 guys capable of adequately playing 1tech on early downs. If Carter just bombs out, then sure he might be cut. I don't see that as super likely, and frankly it's bad business to cut a 3rd-round pick in year 2 unless you're certain he can't play. Regarding Jones, any cap implications if he's cut in week 6? His salary would be guaranteed by then, so Pegula would have to eat that, but that aspect doesn't impact the cap.

Gabe is probably the 2nd best WR currently available behind Keenan Allen. He will likely get offers far and away higher than what we could offer. They said maybe the Steelers would be interested as a Pickens replacement
-
I like Palmer, Moore and Samuel. Gabe has been a more productive NFL receiver than all 3. Coleman of 2024 is a worse player than Gabe Davis or 2022 & 2023. Again, I’m not advocating for or against Gabe but there is nothing to support that those guys are better than him at this point other than hope. It’s fine to be optimistic but to be like, “we don’t need Gabe because we have Josh Palmer & Elijah Moore” is crazy.
-
Steelers if I had to guess probably had this trade locked in prior to the draft but were either negotiating the fine lines (do you swap a 5th for a 6th or a 6th for a 7th) or simply held off on announcing the trade because both teams wanted to keep it a secret from the other 30 teams during the draft process in case the Steelers wanted to draft a WR and the Cowboys were probably fine with letting teams think they might want to draft one. Probably some level of gamesmenship. Also the cap situation after the draft may have been a bit murky so maybe sort out what you have cap wise and then make the trade official.
-
I'm pretty sure the OP's point is that as soon as Davis became available, many Bills fans started saying we are all set at WR, don't need him, etc.. Hence he immediately "made the wide receiver room better".
-
True the Bills OL is also very good. I meant 2nd best player on offense at the skill positions.
-
I'm not saying you're wrong here. All I will say is Cook made things public using his socials. He brought it to the fans and the public in general. I think it natural that fans would react, and given the platform (social media) the reactions are often super dramatic and carried on (which is to your point) I believe.
-
I am pretty sure many/most mean he is the 2nd best skill player on the offense, weapon, and likely on the team. I agree with that, and that he is not easily replaceable, which is clearly the opposite of so many who are indicating we should 'let him walk'.
-
Honestly, It boils down to what Josh wants. If he wants to bring him back he will talk Beane into it as Beane likely doesn't need too much convincing. Brandon LOVES him some Gabe Davis.

DK would have been an amazing addition but cap wise I just don't think that would have been possible or prudent. It also would have cost significant draft capital. I think the Bills plan at WR is going to be to roll with what they have (maybe kick the tires on Gabe in camp too) and then if the offense like in 2024 is a bit sputtering due to lack of talent at WR then make a trade in season where cap numbers are much more manageable due to teams having already paid out bonuses and part of the seasons salary. It's a smart plan to make a few mid-level to lower mid-level acquisitions at WR (Palmer and Moore) who fit what the Bills need and bank on a bounce back from Kincaid who will hopefully be healthy (Samuel might also produce more as he is likely healthier) and continued development from Keon in year two coming off a nice rookie year. Then if that doesn't work 5-6 weeks in you can look at the trade market where teams off to 1-2 win starts after 5-6 weeks will be more willing to sell WR's. -
This false statement is getting repeated far too often. Cook is somewhere between the 3rd and 5th best player on the Bills offense, factoring in our offensive linemen. In my opinion, Josh is (no surprise) #1. Dion Dawkins is #2. From there, it is very debatable, with Spencer Brown and Connor McGovern in play. The "pay Cook" and "2nd best on offense" mantra is a Fantasy football and Madden mentality. He is very good, and I hope we keep him at a manageable cap hit. However, our offensive line is, collectively, the 2nd most valuable component of our offense, allowing us to win with Davis and Johnson at RB.
