I don't think we are having bend but don't break issues. This defense is just flat out getting gashed at every level. The front 7 has just been bad despite the individual brightspots. This, we are getting to a point where McD may have to, and probably should, take over the defense again. You don't get unlimited bites at the apple, and we have one this year, again. We can't waste it. I suspect it will either be just before the KC game as not to blow the opportunity, or just after the KC game if we lose.

DC Babich is nothing special. Hoping if we get healthy, the defense will be better than average -

There is one constant that is bad on defense and that is our DC.. Wake up Bills stop blaming the players when we all know where the problem lies. time to let him go... -

Yeah, I pretty much agree. We have to try something here. -
Agreed- just give the ball to James Cook on 4th and short. If it’s 4th and long, just give it to James Cook

Yep. Some of that is play design. I actually thought the worst one last night was where he was the only guy in the picture on that side trying to defend a screen 2nd half. The Saints OL were running downfield like "where are the guys I'm supposed to block?" I'm guessing that one must have been a communication breakdown somewhere because surely nobody designs it like that?

This I do agree with, especially the ridiculous 12 men/10 men on the field problems that we saw yesterday -
That's fair, but it was also the first game of the season and the Ravens are an incredibly tough matchup for the Bills. That said their return coupled with the return of the others will help. One of the side benefits for injuries and suspension is that it has given PT to players we needed to evaluate short and long-term. Some have stepped up (Bishop, Thompson and Walker) and others not so much (Sanders & Solomon). This PT allow Babich to rotate more players and hopefully keep the defense healthier and strong throughout the game. I also agree that certain guys need to tackle batter (Bosa?)

Most teams in the NFL can’t tackle now , just look around the league. Most teams, if they are practicing it are just drilling and thudding, their not taking people to the ground because their trying to stay healthy. The better athletes in the NFL now play offense in a league skewed to offense. It’s hard to stop other teams from scoring. The ball gets placed at the 35 yard line when kickers can now kick 55+ like it’s nothing. On paper I’m fine with what the Bills defense has done. They’ve given up 10,19, and 21 points in 3 of their 4 games. I think the annoyance like many others is the big chunks in the run game and the amount of other teams offenses stay in the field. The Ravens are a good football team. When healthy they are going to score points. The Chiefs seem to know how to stop them but not many teams are going to hold them down offensively unless injuries catch up to them. I think your hoping the return of two of your best defenses players , Hoecht replacing Epenesa, a steady veteran presence in Ogunjobi, and a healthy Hairston replacing a rapidly declining Tre White had to show at least some positive return -

And 3rd week in a row of not allowing 300 yards to an opponent, in which they have averaged 243 yards given up and 16.5 PPG. People acting like we are giving up 400+ yards and 35 PPG like we are the Ravens D need to get an actual clue. -

Agree with this and again, this hasn't been a big issue for the Bills in the past and I think that is fair to put at the defensive coordinator's door. I don't think firing Babich fixes everything, and as I said last night, I don't love any of the alternative options very much.... but the confusion pre-snap and the plummeting of the 3rd down defense are new on this DC's watch. I think firing him gives you a chance to at least get that fixed. I don't think it will magically fix our run defense (which has been an issue to some degree most years of this regime) or make our pass rush more dynamic (which again has been a recurring weakness) but I DO think it can help fix the two specific issues we have seen crop up under this coordinator. -
The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse

We all knew KC even if they lost to the Ravens would “get it in gear” and win at least 10 games and be the 6th seed and be dangerous. This win helps them push for their division. This upcoming Jags game is going to determine in my belief in KC. If they blowout the Jags away then KC is going to be a powerhouse esp if they go win an away game against a solid team by a big margin. If they lose their season is in trouble in terms of winning their division. If they win by a small margin they are the savvy veteran team getting stronger but not quite there yet -
More concerning than Bosa not doing well on the edge is why the hell are there constantly plays where he is the only defender in the picture until the player is 10 yards down the field after they outflank him? Where is the next level of defense that is so often talked about as running to the football? Seems like the problem is more that there is nobody else there once he forces the RB to hesitate and then jump outside to string him out.

So true funny how it seems Always in time, but never in line for dreams Head over heels when toe to toe This is the sound of my soul This is the sound I bought a ticket to the world But now I've come back again Why do I find it hard to write the next line? Oh I want the truth to be said

so I readily admit I am not focused on the LB play... I tend to look to the DL and see what is going on... I will say this.. to date outside of Deone Walker a couple of times and of course Taylor Rapp when it comes to his own team mates... Shaq is the only one I see that lays the wood down and makes you want to avoid him... -

This was by far the warmest game I’ve ever attended in Orchard Park. It was a great time overall. One thought to add to the discourse: I keyed in on Coleman on 2 plays where the CB was playing up on the line, and on both, he absolutely dusted the CB at the snap. The first play was Josh’s pick. Allen was way late in seeing Coleman (or at least way late in making the throw) and by the time the ball arrived, so did the safety. The other play was a nice underneath completion to I think Kincaid (maybe Shakir?). Presumably that was Allen’s first read on the play. No complaints there, but it was kind of a bummer not to see either one result in a big gain to Coleman. -

Are there things to improve? Of course...especially on the run D, and namely with allowing QB's wide open rush lanes which has hurt us a lot this year, even with QBs that don't run much like Tua. What I am not going to sit here and listen to is some "doom and gloom" nonsense when over the last 3 weeks the D has allowed an average of 16.5 PPG and 243 yards of offense and no team has even hit 300 yards. Have some freaking perspective and watch other games to have it. If your only argument is The Bills D sucks but you don't watch any other games to see what it looks like in comparison to other teams, your opinion isn't worth much. -

No play's that went beyond 20 yards in back to back weeks now. Hill, Waddle, Achane, Kamara, Shaheed, Cooks, Olave - no explosives. And even with the poor tackling display against NO - and a pretty one-sided officiating crew... they still managed to force 3 punts, 2 fourth down stops, had a takeaway, 5/13 on 3rd downs, and under 20 points. -

Samuel as kick returner and Shakir at punt returner makes Codrington very replaceable. Bass, Hairston, Grable, Hoecht, and Ogunjobi are all returning here soon. Spots are certainly getting taken. First is a return specialist. -
Watching the Alabama/Georgia game on Saturday was a little like this too - Alabama had to burn timeouts bc they couldnt get the play in properly. I'll give them a little more slack because it was absolutely deafening there. DeBoer is similar to McD though, often struggling with seemingly basic concepts like clock management and getting plays in.
