Is watching the Bills fun for you these days?
HappyDays replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
This rings very hollow given that the two most popular names last year, Ben Johnson and Mike Vrabel, have both immediately turned their franchises around in year one. Great coaches are fairly easy to spot. I'll agree that the available names this year aren't quite as inspiring as those two but that doesn't mean you hold onto a coach that you know for a fact is never going to get it done. -

Funny you mention the CFL, because that will be Palmer’s employer in 2 years. -

But he has a cool nickname…that must count for something? Lot of dollars spent on two DL extensions. One can’t stay healthy, and the other can’t rush the passer. 🤮 -
I'm going McDermott. The perceived notion that this defense at one time was considered elite (statistically) during his tenure is such a fallacy. Just look at this units playoff success and not regular season beating up on AFCE tomato cans. I won't say his beloved nickel scheme can't work, but he doesn't have the right make up of players currently to make it formidable. Its basically the same scheme Houston runs but theirs sure looks a whole lot different doesn't it. It was fairly successful when main cogs like Taron, Milano and Tre were in their prime, but that ship has sailed. Sure, offense is a problem at times but it's still capable of putting up points in bunches. Yeah, it's McD for me. Until we get the Dawgs that can excel in it we're just spinning our wheels as we continue to keep and restructure washed players.

I've found myself wondering wtf is Brady thinking a lot this season. His play calling, certain game plans and questionable adjustments(or not) all leave more to be desired The defense is leaking but we are wrecked on D with the injury bug. So McD, Babich and the players are doing an okay job making it work with what they have. Oliver and Hoect healthy, this line would wreck games and QBs.

Not crazy at all. I don't want to back into a division title. Go out early. And get an even tougher schedule than next year will already be. All the while Pegula thinks things are fine. Short-term pain for long-term gain hopefully. -

He did. Again. There's a host of people who stare at the ball convinced that they still know what they're watching. -

Agree completely. Would this team be any different without Bernard, Benford, Rousseau and Shakir and replacement level players in their place? Or maybe, gasp, we play Keon where he’s supposed to play. This Defense is better without Bernard. Injury is an excuse but he’s always injured. The other 3 have been ok.. and they were paid to make a jump. In reality, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference on the cap this year, but we’re suffering this year for previous contracts like Milano, Knox, Johnson and Samuel. It’s a hamster wheel of constantly paying non-game changers. At least this group is young .. about the only thing they have going for them. -
intersting that over 80% of us have basically given up on this season. sad, but realistic. i think mcD is a good coach and will do good things for another program. He's done all he can do for us. he's reached his ceiling. but i think what's really gonna happen is Brady gets canned, and McBeane stays. It's possible Beane will go as well. I don't believe they'll get rid of McD. He could honestly be an asset if he was surrounded by A coordinators. but that's not reality for almost any team. but who's out there?

Hot start? Against who? Until a couple weeks ago, the teams they beat had a combined total of single-digit wins. I’m done with the injury excuse. Every team deals with injuries, the great ones overcome them. At some point, we have to decide what “good” actually means. To me, good teams impose their will. They force opponents to adjust. They don’t live in a world of ifs and hypotheticals. That’s not the Bills currently, not the way I see them. We’re a “good enough” team, always chasing the carrot just out of reach. We soothe ourselves with the same recycled lines: If we were healthy… If Josh had one more second… If he catches that ball… If we recover that fumble…It never ends. We’re in our Uncle Rico era: “If coach had just put me in, we would’ve won state.” And honestly? Whatever day of the week they’re playing, it isn’t fun to watch right now. It feels like Season 18 of The Walking Dead, just shuffling along, hoping the next episode finally changes something. At some point, the results speak for themselves. There’s no magic quick fix here. A real philosophical shift has to be on the table.

And, of course, they jerked him around forever because he plays offense, a side of the ball the front office and coaching staff couldn't care less about. -
and yet we've managed to get to 7-4, a testament of good coaching? A good QB? Or both. KC and Baltimore arguably have better rosters but we have a better record, why? KC could say the same.

Time to Rebuild? Too Many Beane Holes.
tigerthelion replied to OutOfBubbleGum's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am guessing their fanbases are not as critical of their play as some Bills fans are of Josh's play but I don't follow their fans so I could be wrong on that. I dont think anyone is giving Josh a complete pass. I think the crux of the matter is that it is past time to do something about it other than hope he plays better. We know what he is capable of. Is the offensive struggle this year more because of him or the scheme or his supporting cast? He is a proven commodity, but Brady is not and the receiving group have proven to be below average. So, of course Josh could play better but that almost doesn't matter inthe grand scheme of things. The whole offensive philosophy needs to change, scheme and talent. Unless the Bills can field a defense like the Texans or Eagles, the team should build around making Allen look electric. That's my view anyway. -
Again, nobody is saying to act like Mahomes did after that loss to the Bills or for him to throw a table. But his act last night, between him bailing on plays and then his demeanor after the game, wouldnt fly in a 13u travel baseball league. Guy's a pro and a team leader. Act like it.

I really wish it was a case of Rousseau tying people up so another rusher can get through or he's getting close to sacks, but he doesnt seem to be the same player that he was only 2 years ago. Ogunjobi also seems to be almost invisible. Hoecht had an immediate impact by comparison and things looked really positive there. But Rousseau just looks like he is working hard but spinning his wheels. -
I doubt a regime change will happen unless Josh demands it. Or at the very least, is consulted and agrees to it. Just a hunch, but I feel Josh might still be loyal to Sean. Josh doesn't look like the kind of player to make demands like that. But a couple more years of not achieving the goals, and Josh creeping up on his mid-30s, might change that. But I would certainly welcome a regime change next year. The blueprint is flawed. The scouting is off. The contracts are mistakes. We are wasting a first-ballot HOF QB.

if you have to ask it's more than you can afford, pal.

I think we are mentally soft and frankly, organizationally, from top to bottom, just completely burned out by the seemingly endless close playoff losses at the hands of the Chiefs. You could see it in McDermott and Allen's demeanor and approach to the season during training camp/Hard Knocks - you could feel an organization with zero urgency or intensity. The emotional well is all tapped out and dry with these guys. Crazy as it sounds, I think we might be best served by collapsing a bit here and missing the playoffs entirely - hopefully, leads to a come to Jesus moment.

So your a Patriots fan? Sorry but the schedule is brutal next year and Maye needs to prove he can come back from two score deficits. Not to mention win in the postseason. Especially since all of the tickets are nearly sold out. This would make more sense if nobody was buying them. -
too many of them became Josh Allen fans with the mvp instead of Josh Allen teammates
-
I keep reading this and don't understand the logic behind it. What, exactly, about playing on a new field next door would be too difficult for a new regime to figure out? Honest question.

Dawkins and the tub of goo around his waist is going to cause him to hit the brick wall sooner rather than later. Maybe you can get away with that body type as an OG, but certainly not as a LT…as you age.
