Yeah every so often GM's have to re-learn not to pay RB's. I don't think Beane is an exception. If anything he's worse than most with cap management and that's why the Bills were in cap stress early in Allen's rookie deal and are among the biggest users of void years in the league now etc.. The Niners are getting burned for giving McCaffrey the deal. Saquon is due to blow another ACL so I doubt that deal comes anywhere close to ending well after all those miles he accumulated last year. Henry is the one aberration because he's an Adrian Peterson level of beast but the next 7-8 or so guys on the highest paid RB list looks like a whole lot of regret. RB's aren't suddenly going to stop getting hurt and flaming out young.

But if Cook wants huge RB money he will have to wait until his contract is up. Its not like he had an all time season. He had some nice numbers (including an inflated amount of TD's scored from inside the 5 yard line.) He is scheduled to make 5 + mill this year. Not chump change for a guy that plays only about half the teams offensive snaps. The offseason is so long, there is just not much to talk about. Especially for a team that has been real good for a long time now. So the Cook talk gets extra play. And the ironic thing is that Cook seems like a real quiet guy. Yeah, they lost Joe Burrow for the season in early November 2023. Injuries and a slow start derailed them early. They were one of the hottest teams in the league down the stretch. One of only a couple that I truly feared us playing. In large part bc of their Offensive firepower.

You're shifting the goal posts. You talked about roster construction and salary allocation in general and are now trying to apply it only to the Bengals as I pointed out the Eagles constructed their roster that way.

Hancock and Strong will both need to show value on STs, I suppose, to justify my weird confidence that they are both a real part of Buffalo's plans moving forward. Especially for Hancock if he's replacing Lewis (who was a reliable STs contributor). There is also a universe in which both Hancock AND Lewis make the team, with one focusing more on NCB and the other focusing more on S. That would mean Codrington does NOT make the team, I'd assume. The two suspended DL allow for extra bodies elsewhere during the first 6-7 weeks.

I would say this years squad has a pretty long list of potential breakout players. Samuel, Moore, Coleman, Kincaid, Bishop, Groot, AJ, Oliver, Bernard, Benford, Mad Max, Forrest, Hancock, Strong, Sanders, Walker, Jackson. Some rookies and vets on this list, but all could potentially take another step or perhaps even the first step being a big one. Some might even throw Rapp on the list. Sure, none of these could work out as well, but we have a lot of options this year and that’s part of what I’m excited to see.
