Many reasons. Developing nations don’t have the capacity for a welfare net, or even basic services. They do not have the same trade agreements and access to the global market. They don’t have the purchasing power for goods like medicine and raw materials. Nobody knows the facts but she came forward immediately after the attack which lends to her credibility. If she was assaulted and a star athlete was let off the hook it discourages more women to come forward. No one knows the facts here. Maybe the case was not good enough to prosecute. Maybe an attack did occur. If it did I hope she can get some form of justice even if monetary and can recover. If it was consensual then I hope this goes away soon and Hairston can move on with his career.
