Who says Beane didn't? Could it possibly be that the design here was to block another team (obviously the Eagles, but perhaps another playoff-bound AFC team) from claiming him (or even signing him as a FA if he cleared waivers)?

Ignoring how funny it is that this happens to Buffalo like every few years, I’m kinda glad we blocked him skating down waivers to the Eagles.

 

he chose to go to the Steelers and take the money. I would be kinda annoyed if they paid him to go play for the Eagles. He could’ve stayed in Philly for the minimum and chose not to, and there should be systems in place to not allow players to game the system.
