The Bills beat the Steelers 5 out of the last 6 times they played them

Which as a history nerd I think that's pretty cool.  And the Bills are closing in on .500 all time versus them.

 

 

 

I never had the same level of dislike for the Steelers as the Patriots, Cowboys, or more recently the Chiefs.  But it felt up until 2019 in my lifetime a Bills/Steelers game would always automatically be a loss.  I vaguely remember the Playoff Game after the comeback against the Steelers with Frank Reich.  I don't remember the 1999 Bills beating them at all which was the only win after the 92 Playoff game until 2019.  The games more in solid memory are the last one in 2004, the Stevie drop game, and the 2016 game which more or less ended that season.

 

 

Long story short the Steelers in my lifetime always had the model franchise feel to it.   While the Bills largely had the Charlie Brown chases after Lucy to kick the football feel to it.

 

 

So yeah it's pretty cool

The bills have been pretty successful against Rodgers too historically it’s pretty interesting. I believe we even beat him in that marrone season lol

The Steelers are like the definition of an average team and have been for the better part of a decade. 

Nothing about that stat surprises me.

We talked last week on here. NFL is about matchups.  For whatever reason we match up well against the Steelers. We don’t match up well with the Texans and dare i say Bengals. But we shall see how next weekend goes.

The Steelers aren’t a good football team. It’s a good win for sure I wont downplay that but it wouldn’t surprise me if they finish with 8 wins

That too, but it goes all the way back to the early years of the old Tree Rivers Stadium.

That opening day loss to them still stings. We were ahead and sort of sleepwalking and then suddenly a blocked punt and we are behind and never really got ourselves going again.

Here’s the funny thing — I looked that game up.  It was a couple of years before I became football-conscious (I was six) so I obviously don’t remember it, but:

 

- that game was also a late-window start (4 pm)

- that game also featured a scoop-and-score (by Mike Kadish) for the Bills’ first touchdown

- like Josh, Joe Ferguson also passed for a TD (actually 2) and ran for another TD, but finished with just 129 yards through the air

- like Rodgers, Terry Bradshaw also was knocked out of the game (but unlike Rodgers, did not return)

- like Bradshaw’s replacement (Joe Gilliam), Rodgers’ replacement also threw an interception

- late in the 3rd quarter, the score was 23-7 Bills, just as it was last night until the final minutes (the Bills scored another TD and then the Steelers scored two meaningless TDs late to make the final 30-21)

 

Somehow despite rolling up 310 yards on the ground, the Bills still managed to punt 8 (!) times.  The Steelers turned the ball over five times.

Yep, they have been too talented to be in position to draft a QB early. The tried the "draft one in the middle of the first" approach and that failed. I think they are about the take themselves out of the "too talented to tank" conversation anyway. Heyward is on his last legs, TJ Watt is a banged up declining force, Ramsey is a short term gun for hire, Pickens is gone, Metcalf's limitations are clear and their Quarterback is 104.  They have a couple of nice young players, Frazier at center, Herbig at edge and Porter at corner but they are not going to be enough to stop a team being bad over the course of a season.
