A lot of folks haven't been lucky enough to spend a lot of time on a field and learn what really counts. It doesn't make them stupid; it's just that the more experience you have working any particular complex problem, the more you come to understand what's actually important in those complexities and what's just tlts on a bull.

When the reality is that even some farmbilly from the red clay hills of Central Caroline has been elbows deep often enough to know from experience what's important, no matter how big a rube he might be!

Rousseau is the lowest in the per game count of any DE making what he makes, and you don't find anyone lower than him until you hit Hasson Reddick who is making 6 million less per year. His per game counts put him firmly in the 11-15 million dollar range.

there is more to being a good DE than accumulating sacks. Those that get 14+ are going to get 30-50M and some of them play poor run D.  
 

Rousseau plays great run D and is a decent pass rusher and is 25 years old.  Hes not a star and he isn’t paid like a star.

Mine is rooted in both. I watch him play and I see the all 22 clips, just like you im sure.

 

I see a solid player who fundamentally is good, especially in the run game.
 

What I don't see is a game changing, impact player. And the math, (assuming you mean stats), reflect that.  On pace for like 5 sacks and like 5 TFLs for a 20m dollar player? I'm sorry that I want more out of him and I don't consider that anywhere near dominating

To me it seems like he plays great when he’s 100% fresh, and then as soon as he’s playing with any kind of wear & tear, he drops off the map. Am I wrong? I’m guessing we’ll eventually hear he was playing the last 8 games with an ankle sprain or something.

I wanted us to let Rousseau go and sign Harold Landry. I also wanted us to sign WR Dovante Adams plus trade for George Pickens (a 3rd round pick and swap of late rounders), we then wouldn't have signed Larry Ogunjobi, Michael Hoecht, CB Tre White or Josh Palmer and we would have been 100% better off from all of those things. You could have just paid me Beane's salary and we'd be 100% in a better spot right now... Just sayin! 😀

It's not just spending time on the field. It's the complete refocus of what's important in people's mindsets. 

 

IMO, it's a direct result of fantasy football mindset. If a guy doesn't show up on the stat sheet, fans view him as worthless. Praise will be heaped on James Cook for his great season (and he deserves it) but will advocate for cutting Reggie Gilliam, who has cleared many paths for him.

Have you ever called plays? Specifically on defense or pass blocking schemes for the OL?
