So, we’re in a pretty clear situation, at least from my point of view: we have a QB who, if he’s not the best in the league, is among the top three; we have a top-5 running back, but we have no talented wide receivers. Our offensive line was completely overwhelmed last night, giving up 8 sacks. Our defensive line can’t stop the run, our secondary is mediocre, and our OC is terrible… and we have a head coach who probably should have been replaced a couple of years ago. That’s what 90% of the fans are saying.
So the questions are:

Why are people surprised by certain results?

How can anyone even think that we could make it—not even win, but just reach the Super Bowl?

Let’s make peace with reality and stop having big expectations. Let’s just take whatever comes without being surprised.

The problem IS that no one is surprised. I'm not surprised that no coaching changes are or will be made. I'm not surprised by the injuries. I'm not surprised that Beane and McD don't go out and get quality time proven coordinators. I'm not surprised at all that they want "yes men". Play calling is crap. Money spending is crap. It's a mess. What I am

surprised by is that we have a winning record. Mostly because of Josh.

Is it okay to be disappointed? They made Houstons defense look like the 85 Bears and the 2000 Ravens all rolled into one. It comes down to coaching, it doesn't matter who your QB is, blocking and tackling wins football games.

He (Josh) is his own worst enemy, in a way

He brings the teams wins above expectation to his detriment IMO

That is, this is a sub .500 team (talent + coaching) that he brings up to a perennial playoff team, which doesn't allow for adequate talent acquisition via earlier in the rounds draft picks.

Buf has drafted in the mid to high 20s with Josh at the QB position when the "talent" around him (and coaching) appears to be, more around pick 12 to 15

That's why we're waxing over the musings of a WR like Keon Coleman vs [insert top 15 talent level WR]....

Josh earns MORE than just his paycheck IMO. Beane/McDermott/Brady/Babich should ALL be saying his name FIRST, for things they're most thankful for, at their respective Thanksgiving tables 😃 🦃

It's just a continuation of the 13-11 pattern we have been in for the last 5 years

13 wins and looking unstoppable most games during one season followed by 11 wins the next season with lots of struggles along the way. Then back to 13 the next year.

But come playoff time, none of it seems to matter, they kick into gear.

Great point. Why are we always always watching some ***** work experience kid learning on the job?

Eagles went to the SB, gave up too many points and went and got Fangio. Went back and won it.

Meanwhile Babich and Brady try to figure out how to not trip over their own shoelaces whilst 17 gets beaten out of his prime

Do you feel confident / hopeful this is also the case this year?

I used to feel the same, but this seems different.

Doesn't really matter what we think, it's what happens usually. Allen ignites to another level during that time usually.

In the 13 seconds season, Allen has the best 2 playoff games combined in NFL history in one post-season. The weeks before that were bad a lot of the time and they really struggled offensively a lot.

Not sure "well it probably might happen" is a strong enough plan - but here's hoping! If we get there, they need to get their heads out their ass to even find out if this is true or not

Seems like the wheels are falling off.  All of a sudden, we are in a situation where it seems like a rebuild is in order, and not a typical retool.

I'm usually pretty hopeful, but that took a big hit yesterday. I realized that we're just another team - we can't reel off a couple of TD's in a quarter easily if we need it anymore. We're not explosive on offense, and have one of the most vanilla/soft defenses I think I've ever seen in Buffalo.

There is no quick fix.  Other teams are starting to move past us as they ascend, and while we're regressing.

The reality is starting to hit:  we might not get a title w/ Allen.

Yes that reality is starting to hit.  There are 3 or 4 teams in AFC (not the chiefs ro ravens) who appear to have passed us.  And we are going to start the offseason approx 30 million over the cap, 2 years after what I thought was a cap/roster reset.

By “kick it into gear”, do you mean one or two play off wins and then we are bounced?

I firmly believe we will get a Lombardi or two with Josh.  And as much as I am one to not think making big changes works, it is clear some changes are needed:

1.  Brady and Babich:  neither have shown the ability to make in game adjustments.  Babich to the point where McD has to take over D calls.  We need coordinators that have the skill and experience to look dispassionately at the talent available and use that talent in the best way possible.

2.  McDermott:  he needs to realize the coordinators he has are not cutting it and bring in new ones.  He needs to remove his ego from the process and get some proven guys in here, maybe even Daboll.  And on D he needs to look in the mirror and ask himself if his D philosophy works in today’s NFL.  If he can’t or won’t do that, then it’s time for a change.

3.  Beane:  he has to commit to doing all he can to maximize talent around Josh.  He has to get rid of our older warriors that have had age catch up or simply aren’t cutting it (Tre, Taron, Milano, Bernard, Dawkins, Knox, Samuel, Moore, Coleman, Jones to start) and bring young talent in through the draft or free agency that add speed and/or size.  Receiver has to be a priority.

As long as Josh is playing QB we are a contender.  But we need serious re-evaluation of everything around him.

With out Josh Allen we are playing for the AFCE toilet bowl against the Jets

This quote is pretty surprising as Mc D promoted his own in house inexperienced coordinators, and now is pointing fingers when his terrible defense leans just as much on Josh as everyone else...

McDermott added, “I believe in our offensive staff,” but it’s clear that the offensive scheme needs to get better. Right now, the whole Bills’ offense revolves around expecting Allen to make plays, even when he’s under relentless pressure. That’s not a winning formula.

I in no way want to stereotype any of our brothers from other countries or cultures, but when I see a sad post titled Oh Well by Italian Bills I instantly imagine this was his expression when he saw how the Texans massacred Josh Allen

What we've had in place just hasn't worked as hoped, no shame in that.  Elway won his first SB at 37, so we have a few more opportunities with Allen to try something different, i.e. GM/HC combo, and see if we can get over the hump.

New Digs, New GM, New Coach, New Look.... I like it.
