The irony of all of this is that the theme behind McD's defensive scheme has always been to bend-but-don't break. That is, concede the underneath stuff -- and if a team is going to beat you, force them to be patient and methodically march the length of the field. The concept -- and in many ways it is a correct concept -- is that if an offense requires more plays to hit paydirt, then it is more prone to make a mistake somewhere along the line.

So what kind of offense has McD instituted? The exact offense he wants his defense to force opponents to run!

What's even worse is that he doesn't have a noodle-arm QB that he is trying to protect with such an offensive scheme, he has a generational talent at QB, blessed with one of the strongest arms ever.

I get that the run game is important -- and the 12 (and even 13) personnel formations they have been running can be quite successful. But any offense needs to be truly multi-dimensional (which it CAN be in these heavy formations when utilized properly) in order to succeed. If nothing else, the offense has to be able to compete in a shootout, which it has shown on multiple occasions already this year it cannot do -- with the exception of the Week 1 game against Baltimore, which honestly may have been more of an indictment against Baltimore than anything else.

I don't think we could have had a worse regime  to have when we finally found our Unicorn QB.  Makes miss Rex Ryan its so bad

Or Chan Gailey.

Most mismatched coach and QB in NFL history. It's led to a form of purgatory that will continue moving forward.

I just mentioned this has to be the worst regime to have while we finally found our unicorn qb

I would take Chan Gailey in a heartbeat over Mcdefense with Josh Allen we actually might would have a shot

McDermott is pissed because of the TBD thread that said he was not an innovator, so his response is to model his offense around the great offenses of yesteryear before the forward pass was legal and try to win with it in 2025.

Just a few years back, the perfect game followed up by the 13 seconds game, the Bills passing game was humming and the offense, with a pretty mediocre ground game, was basically as unstoppable as an offense can be.

So many people forget this. Thank you for reminding the masses.

McDaniel alluded to it coming out of the locker room in the 2nd half. Miami played the run and dared us to beat them downfield and we could not do it. We were unprepared for it. This is what happens when you play a team with nothing to lose. If we beat them deep well that would be the expected outcome no harm, no foul on McDaniel's part, they are 2-7. But if it works (like it did) well then he looks like a genius and the Bills drag their sorry asses back to Buffalo with their tails between their legs.

Every team moving forward knows how to beat us. I have never seen lazier, pathetic route running in the NFL. I swear it pains Coleman and Samuel to go full speed or impromptu with urgency when 17 is in trouble. This is why he is so frustrated.

I thought the same, they think we are still in 1930 and don't need good wrs because we dont need to pass downfield

Coach was asked about the passing offense being ineffective and he said it would be nice to be effective but it will basically only be effective when working in concert with the running game.

I strongly disagree with that statement as a whole, but agree that’s what we need RIGHT NOW because of front office neglect. Yes, we all want a good ground game. And we have a very good ground game when Cook is on the field. But a good ground game, IMO, is easier to shut down than a good pass game is, which we don’t have right now. At least a good passing game when the ground game isn’t effective.

The Bills neglecting our superstar QB and forgetting how we became a contending team is why we are in this mess, at least on offense. A tight end heavy offense shouldn’t be a staple when you have Josh ***** Allen as your QB.

He has always been obsessed about the running game. I’m not opposed to him being adamant about a balanced team but when you put snow tires on your Ferrari and then are surprised when it comes last in a race that’s on you.

Sean by his tone of the presser today is definitely fed up with the offense. He feels the defense is doing their part. Brady is toast if they don’t get this thing fixed.

Start by taking Coleman off the field. More Curtis Samuel. We need Palmer back

The broadcaster was like “when Kinkaid on the field it’s a pass, when he’s not it’s a run” and he was right.  We have a high school caliber offense.  It’s..offensive

I may not have all the answers. But I do know this much. Once a coach has to answer questions about one of his coordinators job security....that coordinator isn't going to last long more times than not.

I really think this is the beginning of the end for Brady in Buffalo. And no, Daboll becoming available has nothing to do with it.
