Holding Penalties, whats the root cause?

Something to consider is if an O Lineman is grabbing the defender on the number inside it is not holding.  Once he goes to the outside, that is holding.  It’s usually caused because the O Lineman is getting beat, and he hopes he can get away with it.  The more blatant the hold, the more likely it will get called.  Part is also a sign of a QB holding onto the ball too long. As many know, JA may be holding onto the ball too long as the WRs as many have said are not separating in 2.5 seconds.  Those are the quick release QBs.

 

This speaks all the more to trade for a WR.  The article this morning in the Syracuse paper in WR options among the DT options.  It’s on the main page of the TBD.  For me it’s 1st, Brian Thomas, 2nd, Chris Olave, and 3rd, Rasheed Shaheed.  Josh is lost without proper use of our WRs.  Palmer’s injury came at the worst possible time.

That said there are 5 holding penalties on the TE's and WRs combined.  That is almost the same number as the OL - 6.  Our boundary players are not disengaging from their defender after the RB or WR cuts past them.  Kincaid has been called twice for this.  We throw 2-4 WR screens a game.  They need to do better.  Most OL penalties are also when they fail to disengage the opponent after a cut back.  Pretty sure Spencer Brown got called last week for that.  If we had a better passing attack where Josh got the ball out early I think we would also see less calls.  

 

So no it is not a conspiracy.  It is a multitude of things, all of which can get better.  

 

 

the only part that concerns me is what seems to be the concerted effort to call these plays against us in the last few games.

 

that we were called for an illegal formation on the tush push made me blow my stack. every team who runs it lines up illegally. we are the only ones called for it.

 

further, there is holding on EVERY SINGLE SNAP. it is just how egregious is it that the refs want to call it? it's not tinfoil hat but it is concerning that some teams never get a penalty and some do.

 

who's our ref this weekend? because if it is the falcons or panthers ref i just may turn it off.

The Stripes could call a holding penalty on ever play if they could, they simply choose when to do it.

Our boundary players likely don't practice blocking drills as much as the lineman do so don't block as well so may hold more.  Kincaid was not a great blocker, he has improved, but maybe holds more.

 

 I wonder too, the league has moved towards full time officials.  Likely during off season they review film much more and maybe review film more of best and worst teams in league at certain skill.  Bills were were one of best blocking teams in league last year so in review of film, did they find , oh yeah the  film shows the reason is they held more.  And so the refs have been told to watch for certain  thing more?

But yet these other teams do the same thing many times and don't get called? Seems a little fishy to me especially since I have seen multiple times where Bills players jerseys are getting stretched as they try and turn and move towards the player cutting back but no call

sure, 6 penalties were called on the chiefs and 4 called on the bills.  the 6 holding on the chiefs were on a punt return, 2 on 3rd 1 and one defending, and 1 on the OL after being up 16.  the 4 on the bills were all on 3rd down and 4th down converted to call back the first down.

I can understand the 17 holding calls as we are an undisciplined lot ... Only three holding calls against our opponents in that same time frame needs to be looked at by the league. That's nearly a 6:1 ratio ... I'd like to ask the league why but I'm sure they'd say it'll all end up evening out, until it doesn't.
