Brandon Beane - failing Josh Allen

The problem that i have with the FO is that they believe they are the smartest ones in the room...........you know, like no other person or fan has ever followed this team or football their whole lives and knows nothing except for the nonsense that our FO spews to its fanbase every season, every week.

 

We, as a fanbase, may not know everything about football, but we know a lot more than what this FO will ever give us credit for, and we know that what is happening to this team is just wrong.

 

We deserve better.

As long as the sun rises, Pegula will NOT relieve either Beane or McDermott of their duties.  He's still making a crap ton of money and the franchise is still one of the talking points in the NFL, so in his own mind, he has no reason to change anything.

Good picks were: James Cook, Taron Johnson, Wyatt Teller, Shakir, Edmunds, Benford, Oliver...Maybe Walker

then he traded Teller.  Cook is legit.  Shakir perhaps if you get another WR to be WR1.  The rest are JAG’s.  Edmunds??

So how do you judge a General Manager, if not for the success of the players he brings in and the construction of the roster?

 

How many failed players does Beane need to bring in (let's say at the WR position), before you start to question whether the guy actually has any clue what he's doing? 

• His draft selections at the position (in order) include Ray-Ray McCloud, Austin Proehl, Gabe Davis, Isaiah Hodgins, Marquez Stevenson, Khalil Shakir, Justin Shorter, Keon Coleman and Kaden Prather.  In other words, he hasn't picked a SINGLE STARTING CALIBER outside WR in his eight years of running the team.  I like Shakir, but he's a slot who doesn't seem to be good for more than catching screens and getting YAC.

• His first year with tons of cap space, Beane landed Cole Beasley (another good slot receiver) and John Brown (solid #2 and deep threat for 1 season before completely falling off).  Since that point, he's wasted money on names like Emmanuel Sanders, Jamison Crowder, Deonte Hardy, Trent Sherfield, Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel and Josh Palmer.  Again, almost zero help on the outside.

• In trades, he watched Kelvin Benjamin up-close for years, and decided he was the trade target for his rookie QB.  That worked out great.  Beane's best decision ever at the WR position was then trading a 1st Round Pick for Stefon Diggs.  And even then, we got to watch the Vikings use that same pick on Justin Jefferson, and then have Diggs force his way off the team 4 years later.

 

So in 8 years, Beane's only success at finding an outside WR for his future Hall of Fame Quarterback was to trade a 1st Round Pick for a disgruntled veteran with a history of throwing teammates under the bus.  Which of course he eventually did here too.  He got one good season from Smoke Brown.  One solid season from Sanders.  Nobody else he's brought in is better than a #3-4 WR in the NFL.  

 

I can do this at almost any position on the roster.  How many infinite resources will it take to finally assemble a strong D-Line?  And how was Beane doing at building that O-Line before Aaron Kromer single-handedly fixed everything.  How has that secondary been since the players Beane inherited (Tre White, Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde) aged out?

Going on 9 years and only JA as a solid draft pick and people still don't think Beane is the issue here?..........9 years worth of drafts with probably close to 63 picks, minus bundled picks, etc. is probably closer to around 50 picks altogether over the span of 9 drafts.

 

And we hit on one solid pick in JA.

Yeah, we've had decent serviceable picks pan out, but one solid pick out of around 50, is reason for mass firings right there.

It's also been noted that they actually wanted Sam darnold. Is that true? Idk but having Josh may be more luck than desire when he was drafted.

This is a feature and a bug. It allows them to be a 2-1 vote against Pegula. You know, the guy who told Brendan Shanahan that he doesn't need a PoHO because they already have one. (himself)

Changing the power structure at OBD comes with some risk. It seems like Pegula's hand might be forced. But on the other hand the guy has still yet to fire Kevyn Adams. So who knows.

It feels to me like Beane is scared of making a big splash move because he got burned on the Von Miller contract, whether the injury was his fault or not.

I charge Beane with extreme negligent with regards to quality WR for Josh Allen.  We have one of the all time great QBs.  Here’s an idea- how about we gift Josh several excellent Wide Receivers!

I said it last week and I will say it again, firing Beane and keeping McD won’t change anything.
 

IMO McD has a LOT more say in regards to the draft and FA than the “Fire Beane” wants to believe.

You have to evolve.  Other teams break down every tendency, and if you dont evolve, you are prey for opposing teams.

 

It is incredibly arrogant, and myopic to devote your top 5 picks to defense, thinking your offense is all set.

Terry will only ruin things trying to replace Beane/McDermott.  Look at the Sabres.   Terry destroyed that team to the point that no good players, coaches, or Front Office will go there.  
 

Everyone here in Bills Land needs to admit that Terry got lucky with the Bills and his chances of hiring better people are close to ZERO.

I don't disagree about Beane... I've been biting my tongue plenty since the Oliver pick... Not that every pick has been terrible. But man there have been plenty of head scratchers and they are all coming home to roost...

That being said... First and foremost, anyone who thinks McDermott does not have some sort of rubber stamp, however small or large on every single personnel move made on this team, Draft included, is kidding themselves. They are a partnership and McDermott has a massive say in who gets Drafted. Secondly... These problems the Bills have had getting over the hump have always been a combination of three things... personnel, coaching, and strategy/scheme... One may look like a bigger problem on any given week...But it's always been a combination of the 3... And that's why, for a while now, while I understand they have their strengths I have felt McBeane are in over their heads in comparison to the better coaches and GM's in the league. It's just not good enough.
