Barnwell reports today that the 2024 Ravens which the Bills eliminated were a statistical outlier in terms of health. The third healthiest of any NFL over the last 14 seasons. In other words they were an above average team that was historically healthy in 2024.

Josh Allen won an MVP last year with an awful game in Houston.

But not on National Television with everyone watching.  I think that game was a local 1p slot game.

That game yesterday left an indelible impression on everyone.  The 'did he quit mantra' is loud today.

You would think the talent is there but maybe the culture is lacking? It’s hard to believe they are falling this hard.

I don't think the talent is as good as we all think it is. They have a reputation as a good drafting team, so when a player is drafted by them his assessment goes up a few notches. Also, whenever they make a move it is seen by fans around the league as a good move, even it was a move that would be questioned if another team made it. Even the professional talking heads are guilty of this. It's circular thinking. Like "The Ravens made a move, and it must be a good move because the Ravens make good moves." Exhibit one of this would be the response here when they signed Jaire Alexander. Now their fans know better, of course, because they live with the team day in and day out. They are really angry at Eric DeCosta, who everyone here thinks is without flaw, for drafting a safety and neglecting the offensive and defensive lines.

They also have a reputation having a really good and physical defense. It can take years for that perception to shift in the eyes of the public. Look at how long it took for people to stop assuming that the Steelers defense would be good.

I’ll go one further on your point regarding their drafting.  They tend to draft very closely with the consensus of the major mock drafters.  If there’s a player who has “slipped” versus his draft projections, the Ravens tend to draft him.  Then when that happens, the narrative is that Baltimore made a great pick because the people pushing that narrative were the same people who had projected him to go earlier.

I don't know, they really could fall out of the playoffs entirely at this point. Especially if Lamar is banged up they could easily lose their next 2 games to Houston and LA Rams, and 1-5 just feels too far behind to catch up.

Apparently Marlon Humphries is also now gone for a couple weeks with the calf issue.

They should probably just go ahead and write off the season, trade us Kyle Hamilton and start reloading.

They used to say this about the Eagles too and the Eagles just built an extremely talented roster.

I’m betting that following consensus picks in rounds 1-3 works as long term strategy at least as well as following your own scouts tbh.

Really sucks for the Ravens because this was supposed to be their all in year. In 2026 the following players become FAs: Mark Andrews, DeAndre Hopkins, Tyler Linderbaum, Kyle Van Noy, Patrick Ricard, Odafe Oweh, Travis Jones, Daniel Faalele, Isaiah Likely... I mean these are all starters. They have $53M in cap space but they're going to have some tough choices to make.

1-5 would leave no chance of making it

It sucks it really does cuz I don't like to see any team decimated by injuries

The talent on defense is massively underperforming compared to expectations.  Roquon is considered elite. He’s been below average.  Starks looks 2 seconds late to every play.  Humphrey, considered very good, seems to be targeted at will and hasn’t risen to the occasion. Jaires body has decided it doesn’t want anymore.  The entire DL is hurt.  Van noy is out and the other pass rushers are inconsistent and somewhat invisible.

That should fall on the defensive coordinator, but due to Harbaugh not having any playoff success with Lamar, it might be best to cut off the head at this point.
