Josh Allen vs Ravens stats

Josh Allen has a passer rating of 66.3 with 613 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception in 4 games versus the Ravens in his career.  Most yards, 213, highest completion % 55.2.  Defense is going to need to show up, Along with the Running game.

That Ravens defense is legit. I'm hoping that we can have a great defensive showing this week (this season). 3rds downs are going to be huge. I believe we were 31st in the league last year at getting off the field on third down. 
 

I'm feeling like Josh is going to have his best game against the Ravens this week. Don't know if that'll translate into a win but Go Bills!!

The Ravens have been something like 12-4 in their openers under Harbaugh and the Bills crushed their dreams the last time they played a game.

That crew is not going to be caught off guard.

... Revenge? Why the hell do fans entertain this notion? They have no more or no less motivation than they did in the playoffs. These guys are doing their job regardless.

It's sounds cliche but whoever can run and stop the run will win. I don't see Josh stepping off the golf course or Lamar off his couch and lighting up the passing game in week 1. I don't think either of them played a preseason down this year.  

 

I do think Henry/Cook both have the ability to put the other team on their heels early in the game. 

 

So if I had to guess JA stats, I'll say 280yds, 40 rushing, 2 combined TDs, and 1 Int. Solid game, but he's just getting warmed up.

It's ok. It's not that serious. I'm not so dim witted to think that these professionals don't have enough motivation of their own to win games. I brought it up because I too think it's silly that the Ravens are painting this as some revenge tour. I felt my wording was such that my sarcasm would have been noticed.

I do get what you're saying, and I appreciate the aspect we're looking at this. But every elite athlete I've known is generally does not let such emotional weight very much their performance. 

There are times when you could do things by sheer willpower, but that is generally not the result with these athletes 

 

Their switch is simply turned on for games regardless. I know they can be more focused or dialed in, I know that a certain level of coaching can make a difference, but I've never truly believed nor heard of a team where it was sheer focus for revenge to make a difference. 

 

The Ravens have an outstanding chance to win because they are a solid team with good players. Theor coach has success in opening weeks and preparing. The Ravens also have a lot of experience in beating the bills and the regular season. There's no reason to doubt they can't this opening week. 

 

Still, for no two rational reason I believe the bills will win. I don't think I have a basis for saying that because for many reasons I believe the Ravens should win but will not.

I think we were 28th or 29th not 31st. But still not good and it needs significant improvement in 2025.

It truly is a toss up game. Many may not like me saying this, but I see the Ravens as a better team talent wise. Better LB, TEs, WRs (could be a toss up) Dline and RB. The fact That Buffalo plays them well is a testament to Josh and McD. This is a huge swing game seeding wise and I'd be bummed if we lost, But I'd also realize they lost to a great team, week 1. Long season and I'd bet we'll see them again.

You are probably correct.  I just remember it being down there. Hopefully some of the bulk brought in will make a difference.

That is what is so crazy. These athletes try but seldom put 100% of their abilities into their performance. We've seen athletes first hand when they put 100% on there. Vons strip sack against Kansas City. Kyle Williams touchdown. There are times and places where the athlete will dial it up to 100 but oftentimes they throttle. 

 

It's amazing what these guys do when they're off time, how many of them don't take it seriously, how many of them are getting drunk and partying more often than not. That they can just wake up and perform at this level is amazing. Rob gronkowski is a great example of this. He could idly perform at an All-Pro level but then there'd be a moment where he dials it up to 100, with focus with willpower and he gets stunning results.

In the NBA playoffs something called the zig zag theory exists, which is a strategy of fading the team that won last.  Oddsmakers account for that by adjusting the spreads against the previous winning team. They have become so adjusted at this point you should almost be fading the zig zag. 

 

These are people and while you can always expect a certain baseline level of effort it is absolutely the case that at times teams play up or down and it can follow predictable patterns.

 

As an example the Ravens had this exact spot last year in week 1 vs the Chiefs. It was a slugfest and they lost. That was a big game for them. They went from playing the Super Bowl champions and trying to avenge the AFC championship game to playing the Raiders the following week as an 8.5 point favorite. They did not show up and lost that game. They were highlighted in that spot well in advance by savvy betters. Again, it's inches here. At this level you don't have the luxury of losing a day or losing even 5% of your focus. Part of what makes McD good is he is excellent at managing this element of the team. 

 

Are these spots a bit overblown? Sure. In this particular one, Buffalo is going to show up as will the Ravens. It's week 1 and this is big game for both teams. I wouldn't classify this spot as a clear situation where motivation could be in play. If it was in Baltimore, it would just act as an escalator. But it's not. So I think this one is fairly straight up and if it isn't shame on us.
